Valley 7th grade lost to Minford tonight to fall to 11-3. Need to start playing like a team instead of individuals or will be an early exit in the jr. high tournament.

Ironton 8th lost to Ironton St. Joe tonight to finish the year at 12-3. Not sure what the score was because you couldn't see the score board, for that matter you couldn't really see the game in St. Joe's gym. Ironton beat them in the first match up this year but the girls were completely thrown off by the gym, or lack there of.
Not taking anything away from St. Joe because they have a solid team and they may very well have beaten Ironton at Ironton but when you are not used to playing without a 3pt line on the sides and they are... Needless to say we were out of bounds a lot tonight.

Just my opinion, I don't know why anybody would schedule a game with them in that gym.
I cannot believe they still play games in a gym that outdated. Maybe elementary school games, but most grade school gyms are better than that. Time to invest some of that tuition money into a "grown up" gym.

Great season Lady Tigers!!

Both sides have strong teams. We wish we could have what your kids have. The people who have kids at St. Joe and live in Ironton City school district help pay for your new facilities with their tax dollars and then have to pay tuition on top of that. I'm guessing they would rather be in new facilities, but we will continue to work on our game in our little outdated elementary school gym.

Not trying to offend anyone sportsfan, as I said you all have a very solid team I am just shocked that games could be held in a gym like that. I realize it is not the kids fault or the coaches fault but it just seems like there should be some sort of regulations on gym size. There is a regulation size basketball and a standard height for baskets so to me it just makes sense to have the same with the court. You don't play with 10 foot baskets and then go on the road and say oh, btw today it's an 8 foot basket. Anyway, maybe I'm just crazy. There are other gyms in Ironton that could be used. Congrats to your team! Seriously, you all have a lot of talent and I don't have a problem admitting that.

Minford 7th grade girls are now 11-3 with one more scheduled game before the county tournament. Their loses have been to Wheelersburg twice and Valley. Minford 8th now falls to 1-13.

Excuses, excuses. Just be a good sport and congratulate the team who beat you and forget it. A good team could play on the playground.

Perhaps you should read the last sentence there malcontent. Forgive me for sharing an opinion that may not be the same as yours.

Lots of nostaglia in that little gym......I cant believe you dont feel the warmth and comfort in that gym......really the players need to pay attention to the lines, that is a basic requirement once you step onto the floor, in other words adapt to the hand you are dealt with.......

Your right Leo, New Boston and Sciotoville East both have small gyms but teams still go in there and play. Some schools do what they got to do. I also might add that these gyms were built long before the new gyms were built.

I agree Mal, this younger generation just cant seem to realize that every car is not a Cadillac and sometimes you just go with the flow when you are faced with an ol Studebaker. Now if every gym was like the Schottenstein I could understand but they are not so I guess the Ol Flyer gym will be holding games for years to come and I still luv the warmth and nostaglia I feel when I walk in there.

I see the likes of Donnie Miller and Tim Rolph running the fast break and crashing into the mat under the basket....and just the thought of Jim Mahlmeister shooting that 2-hand set shot gives me chills.......so to the little girls that are forced to play on such a floor I say.....enjoy yourself and some day you can tell your grandkids about it........

The funniest thing I ever saw at a basketball game was on a small floor and I think the team playing was Ironton but I'm not positive of that. It was on the old Wheelersburg High School floor. The floor was so small the players sitting on the bench had their feet on the floor some. The Ironton coach got out of his chair to talk with the offical about a call and the official told him to get off the floor or he was going to T him up. Well the coach looked around and saw that was impossible and ask the Ref where he was going to stand. The Ref said if you just sit down you'll be fine. You had to be there to really appreciate this one.

Leo Bryd and Malcontent, I couldn't have said it better myself on all accounts. BTW, it's funny how Ironton fans are nagging about a gym's size when they, themselves, couldn't see fit to let St. Joe's Varsity use the Conley Center Gym, instead making them play in a smaller, auxillary gym. Those who live in glass houses (or gymnasiums) should not throw stones.

Im confused. Why don't they use their own gym? You would think if you can play Jr. high games in there you can play high school games in there.

My guess would be seating capacity. Other small gyms in the area seat 2-3 times more fans.

Don't be confused my little buddy, Sportsfan has it. It would have a direct correlation to the attendance. Think about it.

Plus, life wouldn't be so confusing if you didn't change your name from Johnson to Ocho-Cinco then back to Johnson.

Typical Ironton fan using excuses as to why you lost. Just face it you were not the better team that night.

Yeah maybe St Joe does need a gym but you must remember when Ironton wanted new schools all you people were out begging stealing and borrowing votes from St Joe people to help, so our taxes are now paying for your NEW gym. Now with our taxes raised we will not be able to spare the extra expense to build Our new gym.

When it was at Ironton, Ironton won. When it was at St Joe, St Joe won. We split. I am happy with that. We both have great teams with bright futures. No doubt about it. No sour grapes from me. I know the players on both teams and know how hard they work. Both teams deserved a victory.

Also, thanks for the votes/taxes for our new facilities. As a reward, you are playing in a brand new gym. Everything in that gym is FAR better than the facility at St. Joe or the one that St. Joe had played in on Delaware Street. Be thankful for being able to use the gym. Other schools that use their own gym do not have a gym that nice. I am not saying this as a slam or putdown, if it is coming across as one. One of the best things about St. Joe basketball has always been the atmosphere at their home games. Playing in the new gym allows that to continue.
