Re: Wellston @ Meigs
Coach Simpson lashed out at the Meigs players this week in practice and I think this week you will see more desire and leadership in the boys attitudes. Will it be enough to get them past Wellston? I'm going to say that Meigs gets their first win of the season. The close game with Warren really lifted their spirits after the humiliating loss to Eastern.

Having seen both of these teams, I think it will be very close. But I will go with Wellston by 7.
Did Meigs play terrible at Eastern, or is Eastern as good as their fans seem to think they are?

Meigs did play Terrible....But Eastern was very impressive. They played hard from the beginning jump ball. They have great ball movement and showed that they didn't need height for any kind of advantage. They really are as good as their fans think they are!!!WangoZTango wrote:Having seen both of these teams, I think it will be very close. But I will go with Wellston by 7.

eastern has a coach and team who are 100% on the same page. the coach knows basketball and the kids seem to know it. they would run thru a brick wall if he told them too. meigs' has not achieved that level of trust between the kids and the coach. frankly he does not trust his kids and they do not trust him. at crunch time that will kill a young inexperienced team.

I agree with you, When I go to games I pay close attention to all aspects of the game..I look for mismatches and weaknesses and I know the adjustments that I would make. Howie is one of the best at "in game" adjustments. He was rotating players in and out of the game within the first 2 minutes of the game and they didn't miss a beat. I am by far not a great coach, but I do have an understanding of the game and know that as a coach you can't go into a game with a "set" plan. You have to take control and change things around. You have to know that id the opposing team makes the second foul shot they are going to start a full press and catch you in surprise.fasteach wrote:eastern has a coach and team who are 100% on the same page. the coach knows basketball and the kids seem to know it. they would run thru a brick wall if he told them too. meigs' has not achieved that level of trust between the kids and the coach. frankly he does not trust his kids and they do not trust him. at crunch time that will kill a young inexperienced team.
I myself think Meigs is too routine, they stick with a set play and don't look for the opportunity to read the defense and take what is given to them. I barely see the defense make a change for the element of surprise. Basketball doesn't have to be all about talent. You have to be smart and anticipate. beat the other player to the spot. It really doesn't take long to figure out that ones teams bread and butter is the pick n roll.
Yeah I know it's easy to sit in the stands and see these kinds of things. But they can also be seen from the Coaches box.

As far as the TVC Ohio race goes, this game will be very important to both teams. I'd say the looser of this one will be the seller dweller of a pretty weak TVC Ohio this year. I'll give the edge in game coaching to Wellston and the home court advantage to Meigs. It will be interesting to see who comes out the winner in this one.

I'll take the rockets at home. I think the inside game of the rockets will be to much.

Meigs is pretty big. If wellston is to take advantage a weekness it will be guard play.gorockets2 wrote:I'll take the rockets at home. I think the inside game of the rockets will be to much.
