Coach Rhea wrote:Great effort by the Trojans this morning just coming up short in a lose to Los Alamitos 55-38. We were leading 19-18 after the first quarter, then shots stopped falling. Los Alamitos was a quality team that didn't make many mistakes and did't miss many shots. We must cut down turnovers and knock down open jumpers to beat another quality opponent tomorrow, Spainish River.Dion McKinley led the Trojans with 17 points.

We are currently at Disney's Hollywood Studios and then to the Magic Kingdom. I have nit had a chance to watch film, however if anyone has any questions please ask. We will continue to play hard and represent Portsmouth basketball to the vest of our ability. These student/athletes have been extremly well behaved and polite. We will be a better TEAM when we return. I'd like to say hello to Andrew, 3 games away buddy!!!
Thanks coach, hope you guys continue to have a great time.

Glad to hear that the Trojans have made a good showing on the court. I’m even prouder to hear that they have represented Portsmouth High School and Southern Ohio so well off the court. Continue to show the quality of young men we have at Portsmouth. I know several have a bad image of us, and that will always remain for some here locally but it is through these kind of ventures that we can show the true character of the students of Portsmouth.
Best of luck with the rest of the tournament, and have a safe trip home. Looking forward to seeing the Trojans the rest of the season.

The Trojans got a wake up call this morning around 8:00 a.m. for breakfast with the characters. They got to eat with Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, and Goofy. We are now sitting inside the HP center watching a few games before we take on Spainish River. I will check back after the game with some stats, and updates. Thanks again for all your support. These kids have been tremendous and represented southern Ohio well.

WAY TO GO, TROJANS!!!.........WE ARE SO PROUD OF ALL OF YOU, COACHES AND PLAYERS!!!

To go 2-1 against some excellent competition.......and schools much larger than Portsmouth........is a job well done!!

Coach Rhea called me and told me the news, and that made my day!!.......He told me that the Trojans finished 3rd overall, and playing in a big school bracket, makes me even prouder of our kids!! He told me that our kids just scrapped, clawed, and fought their way to this win today!!

So far our kids have accomplished some special things........to go 2-1 in this tournament, 3 straight wins over Wheelersburg.........the best is yet to come for these Trojans.......and I'm excited about what lies ahead for the Men of Troy!!

GO TROJANS!!!

Also, Tre Underwood will be the recipient of a financial scholarship to the college of his choice.......one player from each team is awarded a scholarship, and Tre is the person who will receive this honor for the Trojans.......Congratulations, Tre!!

Great job by the Trojans today overcoming adversity and a 7 point deficit on a couple different occasions. We had the ball, down two, out of bounds underneath our own basket with 3.5 seconds to go in the game. An inbounds to Dion in the paint allowed him to shoot a short jumper, which hit the back iron, and he drew a foul. He calmly made free throws to force overtime. Both teams battled back and fourth in the first over time with Dion shooting a three for the win that rattled in and out. Tre grabbed the rebound an missed a shot lay in. On to the second overtime we went with the Trojans locking down defensively, getting steals, and building a five point lead. Wayne Evans went 4 of 4 fand Tre went 3 of 4 as Spainish River started fouling late in the game.

Wayne Evans: 17 pts.
Dion Mckinley: 18 pts.
Tre Undrwood: 8 pts.
Zaide Whitley: 3 points, huge that gave us the lead.
LJ Adams and Mason Jordan played big minutes off the bench. LJ played tremendous d. Len Collins and Seth Bratchett once again played their steady game and helped close out the victory.

We are pleased with the teams effort, dedication, desire, and discipline. I must say as a coach it's difficult to fly to another state, play 3 games at times your not used to (12:15 p.m. and 8:45 a.m.) against Div. 1 competion, no scouting, 6:00 a.m. wake up calls, and be competative is not easy. We were able to do this and grow as a team. They asked Coach Collins and Wayne Evans (KSA MVP of our team in the tourney) to interview and use their interviews as a way to promote the KSA in Ohio.

Again a very encouraging effort by the Trojans, extremly well behaved both on and off the court, and we are looking foreward to coming home to enjoy our fans. Focus now turns to Gallia, Chilly, and Waverly. Thanks for all your support.

The anticipation for this season continues to build! I'm about as proud/excited as I've ever been for PHS hoops.
