Re: State rankings----AP
Chilly is the real deal with two D1,basketball players, who else in the S.E.O,can say that, that means you have a great deal of talent, and if you can get three other guys that can run up and down the floor and do nothing, then you still have a chance to win most games against most teams thats why I like Chilly, until someone in the S.E.O beat them they are the best.bvmv4life wrote:Even after Chilly loses they still end up #2....alot of respect for Bowman Indiana from the pollsters....

I love Norm to death, but really?
Chesapeake is #7?
Chesapeake has very impressive wins over Ironton, Wheelersburg, Columbus Africentric, and Parkersburg South (=to a D1 team in Ohio). Piketon nor Oak Hill could touch that.

Re: State rankings----AP
I agree...Chesapeake should be switched with Akron Manchester (my friend tells me they're over-rated). Comparing the impressive wins...just a slight edge to Peake over Piketon. The total records for Chesapeakes wins over Africentric 3-4; Burg 7-2; Ironton 5-3; Parkersburg 3-6. Totals 18W-15L. For Piketon wins over four DII teams. Greenfield 3-6; Waverly 3-4; Columbus Mifflin 4-5; Unioto 7-2. Totals 17W-17L.peake wrote:I love Norm to death, but really?

Great to have 3 teams form the SE in the top 10. Hopefully they will get it right next week...I like to see Peake at #3; Piketon at #4; and Oak Hill at #5. By the 7th week look for Portsmouth to crack the top 10 or 15.
Re: State rankings----AP
I agree jimmy. It is great to have that many teams locally. And in no way was I disrespecting Piketon and Oak Hill. Glad to see them there. The next week and a half will be a tougher test for Chesapeake. Game friday with River Valley but after that its DII Athens Saturday, defending West Virginia State Champ Logan (who is thought to be even better this year) on Monday night, then a much larger WV school on Thursday next week followed by a possible rematch with Ironton that Saturday. Still a tough road for the Purple.

Re: State rankings----AP
TAFT on paper is the best d3 team in the state as they were last year as well. that is what is so good about the tournament as it plays out on the floor not on paper. last year northland was the best team in the state (on paper) and they too were upset. these teams might be able to beat all of the others 9 out of 10 times but that one can occur in the tournament as it often does.

Re: State rankings----AP
Jimmy- Not to knit-pick(or maybe to), butttt, Mifflin is 3-5, McClain is 3-7, and Waverly is 3-6. So those records would be 16-20
sparky- I agree with 99% of your post, but not that Northland was upset, they got absolutely housed(26 pts)
The best thing about the rankings, is that the teams get to prove it on the court and we'll get to see who the best team out of the SE district, here in a couple more months. Does anyone know how the Districts are bracketed this year?

The ranking is nice, but as a Red Streaks fan only one number really matters.....10-0.

or maybe not
Obviously you didn't see Taft when they played at the Ironton tourney. They were very impressive and I don't think they would have any problems with Oak Hill or Piketon.
Besides, everyone knows the AP Poll is a joke and always has been.

P-burg South would be a borderline D3/D2 in Ohio. They would get killed in Ohio playing against D1 teams. Maybe you're thinking of Parkersburg? They would be an Ohio D1, sizewise.
Re: State rankings----AP
I agree with you this year South would get killed playing D1 or even D2 and this year a lot of D3 schools in Ohio. But size wise they would still be a D1 school. Columbus Northland has an enrollment of around 1300 and won the D1 state championship in 2009. Parkersburg South has an enrollment of around 1600. Regardless, it doesnt really matter. They were a good team but from what I heard they are down this year and have a new coach.Gasisontheright wrote:peake wrote:I love Norm to death, but really?

Re: State rankings----AP
And I'm not really familiar on what determines Divisions. Is it just the enrollment?
Re: State rankings----AP
Yes Pkb. South is a big (1250 student) school, but in Ohio many average Div.III teams would beat them.peake wrote:I love Norm to death, but really?

RE: Pkb. South -- I'd have a hard time believing they're better than Wheeling Park. That group is LOADED.

Re: State rankings----AP
I've seen all the local SEO teams that are ranked and Chessy is far and away the best of the 4. I-town is a strong #2 w/OH and Piketon just a hair behind them. I can't speak for the others in the poll.
