I just heard them mention Howards name at one of the games. I'm not familiar with his coaching career at all.
I think no matter who coaches at Jackson they really have a tough job. Young team, no senior leadership.
Should be a good team next year for sure i think they return all starters. So they will have varsity experience along with senior leadership.

I'm sure coach McKinnis will take all those points into consideration Ice Man. (screens, press, no press) I'm sure he will take into account the attitudes of some of the players being told how good they are and they aren't at fault, it's the coaches system that's at fault. Kind of like Terrel Pryor huh? If he wasn't at Ohio State under Tressel's system, he would be Heisman instead of Newton!! BS!! He's bringing knives to gun fights. Marrietta has one loss against Chillicothe, not exactly a week team!! His team is young and he's trying to mold them into ball players but some kids aren't buying in. Do you sit them?? I don't know, I'm not inside the gym to see what goes on everyday. But I have full confidence in Coach. He is going to build a system as long as he is given time. As for Howard giving advice, well, there's another place we disagree. He has coached a long time and had some good seasons. But just as every other coach you have to have players to win. When he had MaCleod and White, he two outstanding guards that were quick and 90% of what went on was those two players taking it coast to coast. I just hope everyone is patient and let the coach do his job and watch the kids get stronger and tougher and develop into a hard nosed basketball team. That is the only way they will compete! We don't put size and athletes on the floor year in and year out. The must be developed! Give him time before we start second guessing his philosophies.

NICE POST......YOU MUST HAVE BALL PLAYERS THAT SEE THE NEED TO TOUCH THE BALL MORE THAN JUST WHEN THE SEASON STARTS OR YOU WILL NEVER BE CONSISTANTLY SUCESSFUL.

Out of Bounds - so you don't think a young coach can learn anything from another coach who has had 15 to 20 years of varsity experience? Did McCloud and White play all 15 - 20 years for him including his decade or so at Piketon? I also think that the two big kids and the other starter on the team that year might have something to say about how unimportant you just made them. I believe at least one or maybe both of them scored 1000 points and many of those were when McCloud and White were there.
You do make some good points. Clearly they don't have the talent of most of the teams they play and anyone who thinks so is kidding themselves. Personally I think he is doing a good job, but to suggest that he couldn't gain from talking to his super or for that matter any veteran coach is silly. Also, not that he doesn't have it already, but don't you think that could build a good relationship and even more support to sit and talk with your Super?

Shanks was a very good player. Very good athlete with size as well. Went to the state in the high jump as a senior.

Well lets see if this gets taken off..... It is coaching when the entire team gets beat back down the court by one person.... dribbleing all the way in for a lay up... the offense that they play where at least 3 or 4 players are standing watching ... when i played the coach always asked one question..... whats the easiest person to defend?... Answer the one standing still. Defense was always played with your knees bent and on the balls of your feet.... jackson stands straight up, flat footed and hands to there side if there not guarding the man with the ball.... please, just get back to the fundamentals of baasketball before the end of the year.. hard nose in your face defense, you have enough kids on that bench to sub more and play harder, offense, bounce passes?... set good screens, and teach the kids to set the man defending them up and not leave before the screen gets there.. and please..... get them to catch the ball and square up to the basket...... its hard for any team to score when they catch the ball looking at the side lines and passing it before they look at the basket.. i would love to see them do well the rest of the season and you coaches can get them there, and one question, i heard a couple guys talking in the stands that the jv coach doesnt come to practices?.... how can you coach a game then?

Well the only thing I can say about the defense is, this is Coach McKinnis' first year. All they have played the last two years under Jordan was zone. I'm sure they are working on that very hard every practice. They are also very young, so to expect them to be great at man to man defense is kind of unrealistic in my opinion. They start 5 underclassmen with no significant varsity experience and they're best player coming in tore his ACL in football, who would have been the starting point guard. BIG LOSS!! The team is starting to buy into the system and seems to be working very hard. My advice would be to stay positive! There is nothing to be gained by questioning and spreading negativity. I hope you don't do that in front of your child, undercutting and questioning everything the coach does. He will never respect the coach and work as hard for him as he should. Coach has him 1-2 hours a day. You have him the rest. Who's gonna have the biggest influence?? Enjoy watching the kids compete and don't watch the score board. It's a fun game when you just enjoy the raw competitiveness and effort of the kids.......
