Fido, the ol Sarge will take care of your pop, and if worse comes to worse the Sheriff told me he has a special cell for the old-timers with a tv and toilet paper. But it wont get that far cause I have the bail money......
Yea no problem Tobias, it was directed at sportsfan, he likes to follow me around on different threads, poke at me, not actually add anything constructive and then tell me how to post.
Good luck to both teams....like you said it's all in good fun
These teams are pretty even. At this point in the season, I think Portsmouth is starting to hit their stride. It will be tough in Ironton but, I think Portsmouth's defense comes up huge.
I'm taking Portsmouth by 10.
So, are the girls playing too? Any idea what time the varsity game will be starting? In our conference we dont really have enough kids to have a freshman and a jv team along with varsity so I dont have a clue.....and will this be on the Iheart radio station? This should be a dandy.
Peake: You're entitled to your opinion on here........but always remember that posters are allowed to offer rebuttals for what you say.........and I have a few.
I thought you were very disrespectful to Eugene Collins, our head coach........he took over a program that had 7 straight losing seasons and immediately posted a 12-7 record in his first year......a 10-4 record in the SEOAL, with a 63-60 win over Ironton, their only league loss........and this year will have his second consecutive winning season.........if you want to prop up any other coach, that's fine, but just make sure you know what you're talking about and have seen a particular coach coaching before you offer any opinions about that coach.......I think that's a fair, reasonable expectation.
You said Fairland had a state appearance in the last 20 years........the boys program at FHS has not been to the state since 1961........and that info is coming from the OHSAA state tournament program, which is the bible of the state tournament.
Also, it doesn't matter that Portsmouth's last state title was in 1988 and our last state appearance was in 1990.......it is TOUGH to even get to the state, much less WIN a state title.........Chesapeake has had a good program for a long time, but it took CHS 87 years to make their first state appearance (State Tournament started in 1923).........STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE TRULY SPECIAL, AND OUR 4 TITLES ARE STILL PRECIOUS TO US TODAY!!........THERE ARE ONLY 10 SCHOOLS OUT OF 821 THAT HAVE WON AT LEAST 4 STATE TITLES.........PORTSMOUTH IS TRULY IN EXCLUSIVE COMPANY!!
Oak Hill, South Webster, and Chillicothe have all won more recent state championships, but they are no more special than ours!!
As far as the Andrew Bendolph matter, I still maintain that he is the best point guard in the SE District, and I have seen quite a few in our district during his time. I really like Zac Carter....... he may be the most explosive sophomore scorer in the SE district, and the scary thing is he will get better.........it will take Andrew's best effort to guard him, but AB is up to the challenge.........he has a very strong history of guarding excellent scorers.
And lastly, just remember, Chesapeake is having a fantastic run of good basketball........and could very well end up in the Final 4 for the second straight year.........but as the years roll by, you will realize how special these times are........if the Panthers don't make it to the state for the next 20 years, there's nothing wrong with looking back at the 2010 CHS team that was the FIRST in school history to play at the Final 4.

As far as the game, I have seen Ironton play twice, and I honestly feel that with Andrew Bendolph back, that the Trojans have a better team........would not have said that before his return.........but being better in one fan's eyes isn't anything more than an opinion.
Portsmouth has to play VERY WELL to beat the Fighting Tigers at the Conley Center.
A winning season as a coach doesn't mean much to me in all honesty, Steven Ater has done a fine job with teh SOuth Webster program and beat your trojans, Mark Lafon is still a better coach then Ater. I never said he was a bad coach, just the fact that he lost to a less talented SW team, and failed to put away a far less talented Gallia team led me to the conclusion that with all of the talent Portsmouth has, they should be more consistent. Agree to disagree.
On Fairland---yea my fault, it was Ironton who made it in 94 I believe, sorry about that.
To me someone trying to justify their program currently by their past success some 20+ years ago means little to me in the present. WHeelersburg has been to several final fours in the past 20 years as has Belpre I believe. I am not saying Portsmouth winning the state titles in 88 was not a great accomplishment, but the state of the program now has nothing to do with your state title 20+ years ago.
AB- Going to have to disagree with you. He is a very solid player, but I take Carter over him any day. I have seen AB since he was a freshmen too, and he may be the best pure PG in terms of distributing the basketball good floor leader, but nowhere near the scorer or athlete. We can agree to disagree. I seriously doubt AB drops 30 on Cin. Taft or Chesapeake jmo.
You see this is where I disagree with most. Chesapeake has had an excellent program for a very long time, and the state final four appearence didn't justify that success imo. Try showing me someone who has had 11 regional appearences in the past 20+ years. I doubt you can name more then one. Chesapeake has had a consistent winning tradition for a very long time, and I don't need a state championship to show me that. I would much rather have our tradition v say Oak Hill. I am sure there are few who feel the same.
Great Job by Andrew and Wayne on him. Sick or not sick he was shut down. Looked fine running and cutting through screens. Just had a shadow the whole game. Good luck tigers and GREAT job Trojans!!

That was an old fashion taken behind the woodshed spanking, Ironton couldn't hit anything and Portsmouth was just the opposite.
I don't know why Morton set out the entire 1st half and was brought in after We was allready down by 20 points was all about, He did a pretty good job Defending Bendolph after He came in the game but by then it was to late. Not sure what was up with Carter coming out early in the 1st quarter and not returning until the 2nd half. Ironton was out of sync from the start and it didn't get any better with the Trojans Defense.
Congrats to the Trojans you brought your "A" game and took care of business.
Time for the Tigers to regroup and get ready for the Huntington ST Joe Invitational.
