Green @ Clay 1-14-2011
Re: Green @ Clay 1-14-2011
Green coming off of a solid win over Notre Dame last night and Clay coming off of a huge win over Eastern on Saturday night. But I think Clay will have the advantage coming into this one because they have home court advantage and there size out numbers them in the post. Clay is playing solid basketball having atleast 4 players in double figures every night. I'll take Clay in this one by 5+.

I'm a Green fan, but realistically I believe Clay will win by double digits...

Edge goes to the Panthers due to home court advantage but if Trainer institutes the "Death weave", all bets are off!!

Re: Green @ Clay 1-14-2011
Clay hasn't used the weave in the past few games. Coach has been letting them run. You don't build 10 point leads with the weave. SV and Eastern got down by 10 and had to foul, so maybe they didn't get a chance to run the weave, but fouling Clay this year has not been good for opponents. They are shooting about 65%+ as a team with their starting guards all in the upper 70's to lower 80%.
I think home or away, Clay has too many guns for Green. I think another 10 point win is reasonable.
I don't agree with the 6:30 am practice, but at least it's not mandatory. Let them rest coach!

6:30 am is just because he said thats what time he gets there so he said they could go in and shoot if you wanted. Just beacause they have only had one practice since Monday.

In my opinion (for what that is worth), no amount of shooting that you do at 6:30am on game day is going to help you at 7:30pm that night. Get your rest, come to the 4:00pm walk thru and take all the shots you want. In my opinion.
Re: Green @ Clay 1-14-2011
I don't think anyone showed up this morning for the 6:30 shoot around which like you said RR might be the best bet!

Green is playing some very solid basketball. But, if Clay shoots from the perimeter the way they did against Eastern then I'll take Clay by 10. If Pierce gets hot, Green has a shot.

Re: Green @ Clay 1-14-2011
CLAY 19 13 14 17 63
GREEN 11 15 14 14 54
This game started out with the atmosphere of a SOC championship game and the intensity stayed up all night. Green jumped out to a quick lead at around 11 to 3 before Clay caught fire and ended up the first with a big run to go up 19 to 11. Clay extened the lead to 25 - 11 before green went on a run of their own to bring it back to 28 -21 with a minute to go inthe half. The teams go into halftime at 32 - 26.
The teams traded baskets in the third scoring 14 each. Green pulled to with three points at 43- 40 but that was as close as they would get all night. Clay mananged to keep their lead from 5 to 10 points most of the fourth quarter and again hit some crucial foul shots down the stretch, which is something Green struggled with tonight. A litte better foul shooting on their end and this could have been a lot closer game.
The game was very physical and not very well called, leading to some rough play, technical fouls and three fans being ejected from the visiting stands. I didn't see the refereeing being one sided, just overall bad both ways, but being on the winning end I am sure Greens fans might see it different.
Clay's big men both had big games with multiple blocked shots, good rebounding and scroing 16 and 9 points for Josh Porter and Max Graham.
Should be a great rematch at Green. This was a huge win having soul possesion of first place in the SOC with Eastern and Green both having one loss and they still have to play each other twice.

Re: Green @ Clay 1-14-2011
It was a very good game. Green struggles shooting the basketball but hangs in games with hustle and defense. Clay took advantage of their height with a very good inside out offense set. The refs didnt win the game for anyone but clearly they were bad. The one older tall ref was tossing out fans. He threw 2 guys that didnt curse or threaten anyone. We were sitting right there and it was so shameful it was funny. Hey Chief; if fans are yelling but not cursing or threating you or anyone you cant throw them out. Congrats to Clay on a nice win.
Re: Green @ Clay 1-14-2011
I was sitting on the home side, wall end of the gym. I heard enough language and intimidating remarks to get several people thrown out. There were a couple from Clay, but it seemed to be gang rule on the visitor side. I talked to coach Compton this morning, he is a christian, he said it was awful to hear what people were saying to the referees and to "each other sort of" so that the Clay boys could hear it. It's a game!
Re: Green @ Clay 1-14-2011
Yep...Greens all about the gang rule..... i didnt hear any bad language til the ref threw out people for nothing.....then the language got out of hand..I agree .it IS a game and thats why we were laughing at all the people getting worked up.... Clay deserved to win the game and the refs didnt defeat Green...i was just pointing out that one official made the situation worse[then smirked and told the fans bye bye as they left] .

Great game by the Panthers. Green made a few runs at them but Clay kept there poise and won the game.
I have to agree that the tall ref is terrible. He doesn't get up and down the court very well and he is very inconsistent on his calls.
The refs were bad both ways and I beleive that is the reason the fans got all worked up which is what cost the fans to be tossed. If they weren't cursing at the ref then they shouldn't have been tossed. I've always heard a sign of a good ref is one that can block out the crowd and not listen to what the fans are saying, well it was evident that he is not a good ref. The other two weren't much better and they almost let that game get out of hand. A player for Clay was T'd up after he was blatantly mugged and was knocked to the ground. The ball went out of bounds and they gave the ball to Green. Don't know what the player said but he got T'd up pretty fast.
No. 22 for Green is a player. He just kept taking the ball to the hole and either hitting the basket or getting the foul. He basically kept Green in the game in the 4th qtr.
Should be a great rematch up in the Furnace. Place will be rocking.
