Warren wins this one by 3 to 5. Playing against a very well coached team and several athletes, but I dont think the Tigers have enough answers for Warren, and our bench is alot stronger and have alot more weapons. Venham is to quick for Big John but will also take one of Warrens better games to pull this one out. Warren isnt no wheres near clicking on all cylinders yet and we are still 9-1 but should have enough to slip past the Tigers.
Jv game should also be a good one and hopehully Chas Miller plays like he did against Gallia cause it was a much needed boost for him and the Jv team, makes them deadly with Patton,French,Yabs, and Pannell. Great team to watch! Both games should be great and a packed house Im sure...Marietta has one of the loudest student sections in the League....feels like a college atmosphere! Hope our players can keep their composure and play SMART! GOOD LUCK WARRIORS and Henthorn this is YOUR TYPE OF GAME! BOMBS AWAY TYLER!

Marietta won't have Morgan Wynn for the rest of the year, but that's just a blessing in disguise. Him being out let other players like Eli Lenington and Cody Kriechbaum get more minutes, and you saw the result, they combined for 24 of the Tiger's 54 points. Defensively, Tim Grosel should have no trouble containing Cunningham. I saw a big improvement with Sewell's defensive skills in last night's game against Cambridge. He should hold his own against Venham, and he may be able to have his way on the offensive side of the ball, I see him playing a big role in this game.

We might see some controversy, just thinking about the game at Warren last year. When Connor Hess and Jace Knost get into the game, it should be that much more fun to watch. I'm expecting Lenington to come up big for the Tigers, if he plays the x-factor like he did against Cambridge, the Tigers have a really good shot of pulling it out. I'm going with Marietta by 4.

As for the jv's, if Marietta's "bench bandits", Gearhart and Futrell, along with sophomore Satterfield, can get the ball out on fastbreaks, they should be able to wear the Warriors out. Down low, Riley and Patton should be an interesting matchup as we are seeing the beginning of what should be a great 4 year battle between the two big men. The way I see it, with Riley on Patton, Futrell on Miller, and Thompson on French, the Tigers matchup well with the Warriors top scorers; however, the Warriors really have no answer for Marietta's speed which should make this game a blowout, Tigers by 18.

Dennis what planet have you been living on? Marietta is going to get rolled by Warren. Warren has 2 of the better players in all of South/Eastern Ohio and Marietta has no one close to match up with them. Warren has played a much better schedule and actually put quality wins on the board to prepare them for a game like this.

Warren 65
Marietta 52

dennisdrinksbud, get off the Bud and go to lite. Grosel should contain Cunningham, maybe in his Dreams. I have not seen anybody do that yet. Chilli could not stop him or could Harvest Prep and I don't see Grosel doing it. Big John holding his own with Venham, I don't think so!London from Chilli tried and got in foul trouble. Big John can not run the floor to keep up with Grant. Swell has improved, but is too slow with his foot work. He will get some blocks but can't keep up with the pace. Kriechbaum, a good spot shooter but thats all. Warren will have someone in his face.
Warren Warriors by 10.

The JV game, give me a break!! Marietta by 18 points, Wrong again!! 1st the tigers will not wear the Warriors out. 2nd Warren has the speed to run with the tigers. 3rd Warren plays to good of team ball to get beat by 18. 4th Warrens got the better coach, I have never seen a coach Duckworth team ever get beat by 18. This will be a good test for both teams, but a blowout not going to happen. Warren JVS by 10

GO TEAM WARREN WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Boys in Blue win this one by 7 to 9 points. Would like to see the Warriors get back to where they were vs Prep after the scrimmage vs Gallia...as it seemed? Those kinda games create alot of bad habits because they arent told any different.
Mr. Venham should get plenty of looks and hope he uses the Square on the backboard for those bunnies he should get. Seems to throw up alot of short jumpers and not sure if he even knows where they are going sometimes? The outside duo of Ward and Hastie should also be big if they are in together, but havent seen the chemistry start to click because you cant get it against the weaker teams but should be needed this week if the Warriors are going to succeed.
Be interesting to see the role Mr. Hilverding and Mr. Leffingwell are going to play this week? I will comment on that as it unfolds. Mr. Windland and Mr. Henthorn should see some valuable playing time but who knows? So GoodLuck Team Warriors( that should be Jv name because they play alot of that) and Goodluck to the Varsity squad as well.
The sun comes out tmrw! :122249

I am liking the way the Tigers are playing right now. Sewell is creating offense all around him whether it be scoring, assists, or second chances with offensive rebounds. Nathan Williams is taking it to the hoop or has the nice soft touch on the jumper and playing great defense. Eli and Kriechbaum both came in the other night and hit some big shots and they are going to have to be able to do that more now they are without Wynn. Wes Riley is just a scoring machine that can go off at any time, his quickness gives him a huge advantage. Tim is taking it to the hole expecting to score or at least draw the foul, and has been hitting his jumpers over the past few games. Then Hess gives the Tigers another post player, he is a big body that can bang bodies with anyone, and has a nice jump shot to go along with the inside game. With that being said ill take the Tigers by 4 in a close and heated battle.

Why would Marietta be jealous about Austin Cunningham? Marietta concept this year is to work as a team and it is clearly working thus far.

Heres some numbers for you:
9-1 Marietta scores 59.8 ppg, 9-1 Warren scores 68.4 ppg
9-1 Marietta gives up 51.9 ppg, 9-1 Warren gives up 59.9 ppg
9-1 Marietta margin of victory 7.9, 9-1 Warren margin of victory 8.5

SEOAL only
4-0 Marietta scores 51.2 ppg, 5-0 Warren scores 64.0 ppg
4-0 Marietta gives up 48.0 ppg, 5-0 Warren gives up 55.8 ppg
4-0 Marietta margin of victory 3.2, 5-0 Warren margin of victory 8.2

SEOAL only JVS
4-0 Marietta scores 52.2 ppg, 5-0 Warren scores 61.4 ppg
4-0 Marietta gives up 33.7 ppg, 5-0 Warren gives up 42.6 ppg
4-0 Marietta margin of victory 18.5, 5-0 Warren margin of victory 18.8

So what does these numbers tell us?? Both of these game will be barn burners for sure!!!!!A good old knock down drag out Dog fight between two teams that really don't like one another!! HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL AT IT'S BEST!!! LET'S GET IT ON!!!!

You say that Warren is going to 'roll' Marietta, yet say the score will be a 13 point difference? That is hardly 'rolling' a team-in terms of basketball. That could be a 6-8 point game going to into the final min, and a team making foul shots to extend the lead.

Warren is a VERY good team. And in my opinon a small favriote in this game, even though its at Marietta. But I would give them maybe a 3-5 point advantage. That being said, in a game like this things can get interesting.

Also I don't know if I buy into 'Warren has played a much better schedule and quality wins on the board'

Take a look below. Outside of a GREAT win againt Harvest Prep, who has Warren beaten, that is better than teams Marietta's schedule? I will even give you Portsmouth. So they have 2 more quality wins than Marietta and that equals a MUCH better schedule? They have 6 common teams they have played, out of 10 games...both of thier losses come from the same team. I just don't see how someone can buy into the MUCH better schedule that has lead to more wins..not when when 6 of the 10 teams are the same...and outside of Portsmouth, the reat can be arugued they euqal each other out...ie....Cambridge=Megis...New Philly=Fort Frye. Many would argue even that Philly is better than Fort Frye.

Marietta
12/3/2010 Cambridge
12/7/2010 New Philly
12/17/2010 Gallia
12/21/ 2010 Chillicothe
12/23/2010 Athens
12/28/2010 Belpre
1/4/2011 Logan
1/7/2011 Jackson
1/8/2011 Athens
1/14/2011 Cambridge

Warren
Dec. 4 Meigs
Dec. 7 Fort Frye
Dec. 10 Athens
Dec. 14 Belpre
Dec. 17 Portsmouth
Dec. 28 Logan
Jan. 4 Jackson
Jan. 7at Chillicothe
Jan. 9 Harvest Prep
Jan. 14 GALLIA

It will be hard for anyone to contain Cunningham. He is a GREAT player. If I am Marietta, I left him have his points and focus on shutting down thier 2nd and 3rd options.

As far as Sewell. Marietta's style isn't have run the floor, so if Marietta can force a half court game, he won't have to keep up with Grant. Sewell srinks the court, a lot. The paint becomes VERY small with him in there. He has yet to get into major foul trouble this year.

Marietta in my opinon needs to go with a zone, slow the game down....and play a game in the low to mid 40's...if they can slow it down, it shrinks the court even more, and anything can happen.

Both are great teams, it should be a good one!

Your 100% correct. And your right about Jon. In the last 3-4 games, the improvment has been great. As a big man he does so much more than rebound...he has allowed others to get better around him.

I think Hess can be a huge key in this game. Using his big body to bang around. The thing he can do really well is pull the bigger player guarding him away from the basket because he has good range as a jump shooter.

If you don't mind could I call a "30 second time out" to inquire how soon one should arrive at Sutton to get a seat? After an answer is given-----WHS/MHS prognostications can resume on the second whistle.

I would already be there its going to be a packed house. Almost every home game has been packed of Marietta fans now you will have to deal with the Warren fans/students that travels well.

Now common Etta, I was at the Mtta.-Cambridge game and i could have set anywhere but the Mtta. student section.

But I'am with you on the Warren game, over the last ten years it has been a packed house at The Sutton, or The Warrior Dome.
