Jottings, The Warren JV team record is 8-0 not 5-3. The big showdown with Marietta is Tue. night. I think Marietta is also unbeaten on the season. This could be a game for both teams but I will take Warrens JV team, they are playing good team ball.

Congrats Warriors on your should be (win). Sorry I couldnt make it to the game due to being down with a nasty cold and cough. Have talked to a few people and they said I really didnt miss alot, kinda an ugly overall game. According to the article in the paper , sounds like the boys need some free throw practice....and not to much offense besides the 2 seniors. Wasnt alot of shots taken besides them and really dont know where this will get them chemistry wise but GLAD I didnt get to see it, Im sure I would have plenty of negative response but I will def make next weeks games because Marietta will be ready but Portsmouth is where Im saying where the season is answered. Being a big game AT HOME, Im sure Warren doesnt have the Team part adjusted enough and not disciplined enough to play like they need to to win that BIG GAME.(Hope they prove me wrong and doesnt mean Im not on the Warrior side), So until then, Im going to take some old-fashioned cold remedy and get ready to see next week what Ive been sayin for a while...Warriors win at Marietta but dont think they are good enough to beat Portsmouth twice...especially at home where they seem to play to much non-discipline and selfish ball. Congrats again though and cant wait to see the Boys in Blue try to take the big step next Friday....But get by the Tigers first, its a good tune-up.

Re: Warren finishes strong in 64-50 win over GAHS
Selfish? No one for the Warriors could make an outside shot, so Cunningham took the ball to the hoop and scored or fed it inside to Venham who took a beating going up for shots. It is what was working....why fire up 3's if they aren't falling when you can get to the basket/free throw line?
The pressure/trapping Defense was the difference in the game. Led by Justin Hilverding who was creating havoc for Gallia's guards. When he tired, Henthorn came in for him and continued the uprising. It was great team defense in the second half.
As far as next weeks Portsmouth game: Marietta is THE game next week.
GAHS....Gallia played a great game, especially in the first half where they gave themselves a chance to win going into the half. They never quit.

First off I am Big on names. I would Like to introduce you to Mrs. SALLY Maddox, I am sure you ment nothing by it, but it is one of my pet peaves.
Have you watched any other game the Warriors have played? Our home games have been completely different than our away games. You can be sure that Gallia's play was responsible for the way Warren played. In closer games, the Warriors pass the ball, sometimes they even run an offense 3/4 of the way thru the set before someone tosses up a bomb. (that includes one of the upand under reverse layups AC tosses in the air)
I think Warrior Frosh said it best, we can't all have a good year. If you had an A average student, and they brought home consistant C averages on their report card would you be happy with that?
I am guessing no. I am sure when the game is called ugly, its because your team gave a few players the confidence that they needed to feel that they could take over and put on a show. In my opinion the individual game is a very ugly game. I think the "Razzle Dazzle" is unnecessary, and its something alot of players have the ability to do, but they have the self discipline to keep it at home, and in practice. I also think that you have five on the floor for a reason. If the game were to be played with two against five it would be you talking about the ugliness.
Cap n scoop : seriously, stick with baseball. Basketball is both offense, and defense, in my book you need to be able to play both. You need to be able to see the court, and know when to pass. As far as the three goes, we NEVER shoot the 15' jumper, it's either a 3 or a layup. That's baseball without a double or any steals, thats missing the cut off man, and strictly fast balls. Sound like a win to you? It sounds like a hat in the dirt to me.

Re: Warren finishes strong in 64-50 win over GAHS
Like I say, we do have more than one or two players. The fourth quarter should say it all. Count the number of shots the other team members took in the 4th quarter. I havn't ever posted about the number of points players have. I have more TEAM consept than you will ever know. To me TEAM isn't pounding the ball on the floor until it opens up a shot, its not driving the lane or forcing a pass into double coverage. Team is having confidence in your team mates. Its how you treat your team mates on and off the floor.
Look at todays Marietta Times, The article is slightly larger than the box scores. Have you ever seen an article that acknolowdges the other players. Warren has a great bench. They get the same five words over and over again. Read Bankshots posts, he is constantly dogging the "other" players. I say great things about this team deserved or not.
I don't have a problem with Coach Maddox at all. I just don't understand why we have to play the come from behind game. I know we have a really well balanced Team, and the Press is a great example of that. Henthorn came off the bench, and played just as good or better than the starter he replaced, but because he didn't score 24 points or 20 points, he heads to the locker room unnoticed. In the Jackson game Ward had 6 streight assists inside to Venham, the person that wrote that article listed the box score as six assists, what about the other three assists? Where did Ward go after the game? Sure wasn't to disney land. Windland plays a great inside game in the shadows. He has probably played better this year than he has ever. I bet you wouldn't even know he didn't start playing basketball untill he hit JR. High. Who even knows they are there. They are just a great bench. Yes, I know team, I see them, I see their patience, and their grace. I wish someone else would.
I'm sure your next response is OH, You must be jealous. I'm not, I just know that there is more than the high scorer, and I know that there is more than a box score. All I ever hear is who the high scorer is, and frankly. Its over rated. Do as you will with my post. I don't live in your world of sunshine and happyness. I live in the Real world. Just as you do. That's why you don't like people saying their team wasn't playing their best. I want what you want. I want you to recognise that there are two teams, each giving it their best. Twist it turn it, that's all there is. Two teams, Five players on each side at a time. See both teams, See all ten players. See the game for more than the offense.

Re: Warren finishes strong in 64-50 win over GAHS
OK...Ive waited long enough to voice my opinion....My son plays on the team and I do nothing more than try and support the warriors! After watching lastnights game, I honestly think that Warren has so much more potential then what they are showing. Im not harping about playing time and am satisfied with whatever time the kids get..however.. what I am dissatisfied with is the lack of Team ball that is being played. If lastnights game was any indication of whats to come, then Id say we would be lucky to get past 2nd round of the tournament. I see we werent hitting from outside but doesnt mean we have to result in a 2 man game because there were several times(and I do mean several) that Warren didnt run an Offensive set...which leads to the 2 man game which was working against a weaker opponent. What it also leads to is several players standing around on offense due to not getting touches or not being involved in the Offense! So tends to get frustrating which I could see on the players faces lastnight. Hopefully This team can come together and start being ALOT MORE PATIENT ON OFFENSE! RUNNING A MOTION OFFENSE WORKS REALLY WELL FOR WARREN BUT SEEMS LIKE THEY SHY AWAY FROM THIS BECAUSE IT TAKES ALL 5 PLAYERS TO MOVE AND SCREEN AND ID SAY THAT ITS NOT BEING RUN OFTEN JUST FOR THAT REASON...ENOUGH SAID!
So Id say after coaching several of these kids in AAU that Warren is VERY FAR AWAY from being where they need to be...even though our record is 9-1. Marietta will be a big test and after watching Portsmouth play last Sunday that we will have a HUGE TEST next Friday to see how good we really are...The Trojans are a far different looking team now and we will see whos the elite team in the League...(hopefully us) but alot of mess to clean-up before we get there! Cant wait to go the DEN and play the TIGERS.... 3 of there players also played AAU ball for us and will be a fun game to watch! Goodluck NATHAN,TIM, AND ELI but hopefully the Warriors will come out on top of this one!

I personally do not have anything to do with Warren but I think they've been playing good ball. I think if these kids can listen to their coach and not the mommy's and daddy's at home then they will be just fine. I don't care if i am attacked after that statement but after reading the comments above that is what i see..

Re: Warren finishes strong in 64-50 win over GAHS
I don't know you, 4ever, but you seem fair about anybody on the playing field or court. I like what you say, and one thing is sure, every game is played differently by every team because the dynamics of the players are different from one team to another. Factor in every day life and the circumstances involved in that, and you get the chemistry of how the game is played on any game day. There is no definite formula for each game, so that is why we play the game.gahs4ever wrote:^^^^^You always have something negative to say about Warren basketball. They're 9-1 for crying out loud. I cant imagine how you would be ranting if Warren ever had a few mediocre seasons by their standards.
You are a fan of the fifth straight school who beat us to call the game ugly and not their best effort. Seems like none of our opponents show up to play us if I was to believe the self professed experts on here.
When a game is closer than the gurus expect it can either be because of an off night from the favorite or an outstanding effort by the underdog or a little of both. GAHS controlled the first half to some extent by staying with the Warriors on the boards and hitting four timely threes in a 24-22 game.
The trapping pressure employed in the third quarter rattled the Blue Devils and IMO was singularly responsible for the tide turning in Warren's favor. Cunningham is the best player I have seen this year and we have played most of the best teams in the SE. Chilli, Ironton, Portsmouth, Marietta and Chesapeake among them.
When Warren stretched the lead out to about 15-16, GAHS could have folded their tent, but they actually got the deficit down to about 5-6 at one point in the second half. Credit the Blue Devils. A testimony to their character and determination.
GAHS lost by 14 and Warren shot 21 more free throws. I am not blaming the officials for the disparity; merely pointing out that when any team gets that many more opportunities to convert uncontested 15' shots, the other team is going to find it difficult to win. Had Warren shot a higher percentage of their freebies the margin of victory would have been greater, but I remarked to our coach after the game that IMO, considering who we played and where we played (on the road), this was our best offensive showing of the year. IMO it is something to build on.
Warren will be a VERY tough out at tourney time and as I said to Jottings on the way home, the DII and III district at the Convo in a couple of months is really going to be something.
Always good seeing friends Dan Leffingwell, Blane and Sallyy Maddox, John Mitchem and others.
I thought I'd never see any student section like our G-Force, but the Warren student section and pep band were very impressive as well.
See y'all in Centenary on Feb 18!
