Venham will greyshirt this coming season because OU has a punter (Weller) who will be a senior this fall. After Weller graduates OU has told venham that he is their punter and they wont recruit another. I cant wait to see his first fake punt, hes an athlete!!
Re: Warren's Venham verbally commits
fan..you are right about the grey shirt but their punter now is Paul Hershey...

What is the difference between a Gray Shirt and the Red Shirt we all hear about on TV. Asking because I have never heard of a Gray Shirt. Just Curious.
Congrats to Venham no matter, his parents and family should be understandably proud. Great High School career.

he will pay his own way for 3-9 hours in the fall (can not be a full time student), while "working out" just not with the team.....in January, he'll get on scholarship and will count towards the next class, not the one in which he actually graduated HS.
What it is, is the college doesn't want to have two scholarship punters at one time.. Since their current punter is a senior, and graduates in December, his scholarship will be available for Grant in January. This way, only one scholy punter at a time.
He will technically not be part of the team until January, he can not work out with them, or be involved in any "team" activities. In January he will get his ride, and be 100% part of the team and all team activities.
Red shirt reports when all the other players report, participates in all workouts, practices, and team meetings, can dress for games for emergency purposes, but if they play in a game, red shirt is lost. If they dress for every game, but never get in, they still have four years of eligibility.

schenk11; Thank abunch. I had never heard of this before. Makes sense. So, can he work on his punting? Like will there be made available to him facilities to do this? This fall.
Re: Warren's Venham verbally commits
He can use the facilities but not when anyone with the team is there, coach, player, GA etc.

That was a great explaination of the difference between redshirt and greyshirt. I am very happy that he is going to OU. It is great when we have local players get a chance to play for OU. They are getting a great player who can do and play several positions if need be.schenk11 wrote:He can use the facilities but not when anyone with the team is there, coach, player, GA etc.
Congrats and wish you nothing but the best in your College Carreer in the Green & White!!!!!

online mba
I am happy to hear that he has decided to stay in state after getting offers from the likes of more prestigious programs from schools like Tennessee. I think it is usually best for kids to stay close to home. It helps them emotionally with the transition to college. He will have a better chance at having a more prominent role at Ohio as well.bankshot wrote:Warren's Grant Venham verbally commits to Ohio University after recieving interest from several different schools including Tennessee, Northern Illinois, Texas A & M, Akron ect...Good luck to Grant it will be good to see him in the green and white...
