A Theory about the Future of Football in Athens County
A Theory about the Future of Football in Athens County
It has been widely discussed on here that Coach Dave Boston is thought ot be stepping down as HC at Nelsonville. Has anyone given thought to why this rumor is now two years old? Could it be that Coach B sees the eventual consolidation of Trimble and NY and knows that because of seniority he would be an assistant for Phil Faires? Maybe this whole consolidation is closer than we all realize.

All I can say is the future at NYHS must not be very bright if the coach is looking to bail for the second year in a row.

Random Trivia: When the Buckeyes formed, the students at York voted for the team nickname to be the Nelsonville-York Rebels with colors of Greyhound grey and Bruin blue. The students at Nelsonville voted for the team nickname to be the Nelsonville-York Patriots with colors of red, white, and blue. This was after it was decided a new nickname and new school colors would be put in place, as neither school wanted to give up their nickname or colors. Neither school could agree on anything, and that's how we became the Buckeyes because it's the state nickname and was the only way out of controversy over this. School colors were originally only brown and white. Orange was added in the early 70s, as the students voted to add orange to add color to the team uniforms of the various sports.

I had this same talk last year with a Long time Buckeye faithful.Almost the
same story i got..Except for the orange part..I was told it was never voted
in it just started to be adopted in...Not saying either way just what i heard.
As far as phil being head coach.I cant see that happening..TO predicable jet sweep left jet sweep right..

If you think Phil Faires is too predictable then Dave Boston Jr. is right there with him. Any team that watches Nelsonville-York's films can tell what they run in certain situations, where their weaknesses are, how to exploit them, and Boston won't change a thing even if he knows the other team can tell what is coming. IMO Don't hire either of these coaches, they can only win around southeastern Ohio, bring someone new in, with new ideas, experience, and innovative thinking.

Yep, bring in all new blood and turn over the programs completely. You might even get a resume that says they like to throw the ball a little and possibly even go to that there west coast form of offense which is something most SEO teams haven't even seen on film yet (it's been around for 30 years) but it takes awhile to filter down to the country & hill folk in high schools I reckon. I think they'd win some playoff games that way against them other schools.

wow, Phil Faires and Dave Boston to predictable, but yet how many league championships have both of these coaches won. What does that say about the other teams these schools are beating? Just a thought!

It does not matter if the other team knows what your going to run if you do it right. They can not stop you.NYF wrote:wow, Phil Faires and Dave Boston to predictable, but yet how many league championships have both of these coaches won. ^^^^^ this but I do agree you have to adapt your O and D to you players the best you can.
Re: A Theory about the Future of Football in Athens County
Amen. I knew someone would finally get the right answer. There are a lot of different factors that influence what type of system a team will run. The teams that are best able to execute their schemes are the ones that win consistently. I think Kettering Alter runs the very antiquated wishbone with some degree of success.bobcatfan4728 wrote:It does not matter if the other team knows what your going to run if you do it right.
