Wellston basically has 5 credible wins. throw out new boston and the two christian schools. the teams above wellston actually play a quality non league schedule. trust me they will not get near the 2 seed and the 3 would be a miracle. they might get the 4 because of the TVC votes but the coaches also know that nobody wants to play southeastern because they are significantly better than wellston. just wait and see.

Is this the first year that Meigs is DIII? Their 10/11 Boys enrollment is at 223, what is the cut off for II vs III?

The seedings may run along with the school size interestingly enough.

Meigs, Alexander, Zane Trace, Fairland all coming in with over 200 boys.
River Vally, Crooksville, Wellston and Nelsonville-York between 150 - 200 boys
Belpre and Fed Hock with under 150. FH looks to be the smallest with 138 boys, I believe that is just 3 over the DIV limit?? But not sure.

Does someone have the Division #'s handy?

It would be to FH and Belpre advantage to have been DIV.

FH is a potential spoiler. They struggled early, been in alot of close games as of late with the top of the TVC Hocking and knocked off Trimble in Trimble Saturday night. They are one to watch especially with their 7 foot Junior center, he is improving every game out and gave Guthrie more than he could handle in the 4th quarter and the OT win.

I look for the bigger schools to dominate this sectional.

by the way, replace miller, new boston and the two christian schools on wellstons schedule with OAK HILL, PARKERSBURG SOUTH, TRIMBLE and the ZANE TRACE CLASSIC TEAM (forgot who that was) on Alexanders schedule and the records would obviously be very different. Coaches know this stuff and it makes a HUGE difference! trust me, wellston WILL NOT get seeded above Alexander and shouldnt.

Marion Catholic is something like 9-3, and was good as Trimble. Alex has wins versus Southern, Amanda, Fed Hock twice so go easy on the comparisons please. Alex has some teams on their schedule with losing records also. Im not knocking Alex, but you are knocking Wellston. Go by overall records. It is what it is. Theres still two weeks left until the drawing, lets see what happens. Your telling me if Wellston has 10-11-12 wins and only 5 - 6 losses and Alex has 7-8 wins and 10-11 losses they should be seeded higher than Wellston. I dont hardly think so. The seeds should be determined by the overall body of work, not just head to head. The Rockets beat Vinton County and Alex didnt so that should balance out the head to head because of the wide margin of the wins that Wellston has versus Alex. At this time Wellston should be a 2 - 3 seed hands down but their is alot of basketball to be played. Let it play itself out.

not knocking wellston just telling it like it is. how can you go by overall records when Alex has crushed you twice. the second time was after your "much improved" rockets just beat VC. I wish wellston luck but they simply wont get above a #4 seed unless something drastic happens.

We agree to disagree and we both have that right. Both teams are capable if playing well. I just think if a teams overall body of work is alot better than anothers a tournament seed should be based on that. I truly think their schedules are comparable, and if Wellston has a better overall record by maybe 3-4 more wins the coaches will do the right thing and
seed Wellston higher. Head to head should only be important if their records are the same. What you are saying makes little sense. Let's say ny beats Alex which could happen. Should they be voted higher than Alex? What if Fed Hock would have beat Alex but had 3-4 less wins. The seeding must be done on the overall body of work, plain and simple. This is the way the voting is done every year. Total wins are the most important issue. Good luck to the Rockets and the Spartans. Plenty of basketball to be played. We will keep this conversation going over the next two weeks. I'm sure RV and Southeastern fans will join in also.

prepster, if total wins are the only thing that matters then why do the teams list their records against each division? total QUALITY wins are what matters. trust me, your not getting a 3 seed.

Alex only played FH once this year and that was at Alex. This is all they will play. Very few TVC Ohio-Hocking matches this year d/t the size of the Hocking now with Wahama and South Gallia in. I believe several of the TVC Hocking teams would give the Ohio teams a run for it this year but we won't know d/t scheduling.

What matters in the end is how they are playing at the end of the season going into the tournaments. The seedings do depend on schedules. If I remember correctly a hot River Valley team came very close to knocking-off Alexander in the sectionals last year? That's why we play the games. Not any of these teams are that much better than another on any given night. It comes down to the details and who has the most heart when the final buzzer sounds. That's why I would not want to play FH late in the season or come tourney time. They are a group on a mission, composed of almost all underclassman, only one Sr. that sees much playing at all. Those are the dangerous ones.

Three seed? its not out of the realm to get the two seed . Why are you putting Meigs automatically ahead of Wellston and Alex? They have lost.2 in a row. They have d 4 schools such as wahamma , southern. and Eastern on their schedule. They lost to a one win JAckson team. My point you can't put Alex at a two or a three without looking at the entire season. Alex will not get the two or three maybe a four or five. Like I keep saying let it play itself out.If they have two or three less wins than Wellston they will not be voted ahead of them. Thats just the way it is done.

Foxworthy,

I agree that anybody can get a win in this sectional due to the fact that it is the worst Div. 3 sectional in the history of the district. I dont see FH doing much damage from the 9-11 seed position because they would have to play 2 games and coaching becomes a premium at tourny time but i guess anythings possible.

Federal Hocking has losses

Nelsonville-York 58-55
Belpre 58-50
South Gallia 45-43
Eastern 50-44
Wahama 70-57
Waterford 55-52

They are the sleeper in this D3 sectional.

i agree that meigs needs to win a few games or they could fall down the seeding very quickly but trust me wellston WILL NOT get seeded above Alex. You think you know how the seeding plays out but you really have no idea.

Let me spell it out for you. when it comes time to vote for the three seed, Alex, NY, BELPRE, MEIGS and River Valley will all vote the same (trust me on this). That gives Alex 5 of the 6 votes needed for the #3. Southeastern will most likely vote themselves at the three (which they should because their conference is better) and Zane Trace will follow what they do. This leaves it at Alex 5 votes and southeastern 2 votes. Even if southeastern doesnt belive they are the #3 they will vote for themselves to gain credibility for the 4 seed as it generally goes to the 2nd vote getter for the 3. this leaves 4 votes and EVEN IF wellston gets them all (which they wont) it still wont matter.

If the draw was today, this is EXACTLY how things would play out. Anything can happen in two weeks and things may change but as of now this is how it will play out. TRUST ME.

So could you share with us what your knowledge of competition in the TVC Hocking really is? Since they are playing very few schools outside their league games they are hard to measure.

You can't really go on what teams were at the beginning of the season. We have all seen good teams falter and poor teams improve tremendously. What I am saying is don't take FH lightly. Their coach just may ace you on that "expert witness." That's why they play the games, otherwise we could just figure it out on paper and save some gasoline.

Perhaps you could check with Trimble to see if they expected FH to beat them at home on Saturday night. No pump up of the young Lancer team, just don't dismiss them or anyone else for that. Stranger things have happened.
