Re: "The People's Elite 8" week 3 sponsored by datchillicav
How about blowout wins over Wheelersburg and Gallia, a team you beat by less then 10 I believe. Bendolph/Steve Nash as I have said before is not making up 50+ points CHesapeake beat them by.
Thank you to whomever made the comment about Bendolph. I think the kid is good, but you would think we are talking OJ Mayo good listening to Portsmouth fans. I have seen him for 3 years and I am not going nuts over his ability. Peter Hintz did just fine against him, tells me all I need to know. BTW, Oak Hill was a paper champion last year. Lost to freaking Huntington St. Joe, enough said (even though it didn't count).
Here we go again, portsmouth fans using the we beat a team by this much logic, which they also used to say doesn't matter when we bring up Gallia. Which is it? Either you use that logic or you don't. You can't apply it and then tell people they can't in return.
Parkersburg South is= to a D1 team in Ohio, I don't care if you think it is a quality win or not. Spring Valley is = to a D1 Ohio team. Are they great teams, no, but all of the d2 programs in this area aren't all great either. Athens is d2 correct?
Chesapeake has played the equivalent of 3 D1 teams in Ohio, D2 Athens, Wheelersburg, Ironton, Gallia, and D4 Col. Africentric. It is what it is.
We will see in a few weeks, and I know I am dealing with excited students who are seeing dreams of teh Schott dancing in their heads, so I will take it with a grain of salt.

I had to work during the Logan Elm/Canal Winchester game, but from what I heard/read, it was AWESOME. 7 first half points, 6 field goals? CANAL? Unheard of. Hopefully the win is a sign of things to come, but we still have to rematch Canal on the road.

Tobias,
I think it has more to do with Portsmouth fans all of sudden saying they beat us 9 out of 10 times and all of a sudden we are not playing good basketball but Portsmouth is.
I think both teams are playing very good basketball right now imo.

It has nothing to do with that....cause Joker(not a Portsmouth fan) and Datchillicav( not a Portsmouth fan) made those comments....you don't want to give Portsmouth anything....until they prove it to "you"...But your opinion is no greater than anyone elses....This is a consensus poll....not a Peake poll....not a jgordon0315 poll.....Your problem is that you don't like that people outside of Portsmouth are drinking the Portsmouth kool-aid....
Re: "The People's Elite 8" week 3 sponsored by datchillicav
Chillicothe is the favorite to come out the Division II district, in my opinion, but they could have a very tough road to reach state by having to beat a DeSales/Hartley and Zanesville.
Re: "The People's Elite 8" week 3 sponsored by datchillicav
jg,
I already said I was wrong about Portsmouth, go check out the thread, How far will Portsmouth go. It turns into a we are the best team in the district, and we would beat Chesapeake 9 out of 10 times.
I think Portsmouth is a very good team, but for the sake of a poll you don't have a 4 loss team jump a 1 loss team with similar opponents. Portsmouth wants to point to Ironton and Chesapeaks can easily point to Gallia. I had Portsmouth in my 7-8 range last week this week they are #5, I don't see how any of your last comments make any sense, but keep reaching.
I have no problem with anyone's opinion, unless they are showing outright bias, but then I consider there are probably a lot of excited kids on this site, and then I consider the source. I just don't understand the logic for moving Portsmouth from #7-8 range to #1. You beat Ironton congrats.

My last comments don't make any sense???? I can't have an intelligent conversation with you, I see. Nevermind....it seems you can't comprehend a simple post.....rant on.
Re: "The People's Elite 8" week 3 sponsored by datchillicav
Your response is coming from a thread where I thought Portsmouth would lose to Ironton, I was wrong, and admitted it, so your logic for building your argument about how I don't "give" Portsmouth anything makes no sense. You are using a single post where I admitted I was wrong as evidence to make the claims you did, which are imo false. You have failed to provide other comments like I think Portsmouth is a very good, athletic, well coached team. Like I said, keep reaching.
My logic is based on the fact that regardless of you beating Ironton by 25, you still have 4 losses. Notice when Georgia in football lost wr AJ Greene they struggled, and then he came back and they were a far better team. They didn't go from 25th in the country to #1 just because they got their best player back. That is my argument.
Portsmouth is a very good team, no arguing that, but based on the entire seasons body of work, I don't think you can put Portsmouth ahead of Chesapeake. That is my point. My point will be further supported when Chesapeake gets the #1 seed and Portsmouth gets the #2. If this were a poll for who is playing the best basketball on 11-25-11, then you have a strong claim, but polls judge a body of work, not just you had a big win now you are #1. JMO.
***BTW, for everyone who thinks Logan, WV is just another WV opponent. Logan, WV beat Wheeling Park, who #5 D2 Zanesville lost to, and then Zanesville beat the #1 in D1.****
Food for thought since many have written off teams like Logan, WV as just another team.

^^^
Portsmouth is currently unbeaten when they have their full roster. If they have Bendolph against Warren and Chillicothe, they win those games.
Logan, WV is a good opponent, but you're also making them into the best team in WV History. The problem most people have is that they see the really bad teams from WV and not the few good ones(Logan, Wheeling Park, Huntington, etc.) and that's why there is such a low opinion about WV basketball.
There's so much basketball to be played before the tournament draw even happens that the Chesapeake/Portsmouth conversations are gonna get absolutely horrible by the time that sectionals even start. Heck, I'm tired of it already and I'm not from anywhere near either.

My point is still stands. Point is you haven't beaten Warren or Chilli, when you do, then we will talk.
I am not making Logan, WV out to be anything other then a da*n good program. Others have said that WV opponents are irrelevant, well tell that to Zanesville who lost to Wheeling Park who Logan, WV beat. Zanesville also beat the #1 team in D1 in Ohio. THere are also really bad teams from Ohio, there just happen to be tripple the amount of schools. Tired of double standards.

So by your logic, then Grove City is on par with Logan. Grove City(5-9) beat Newark, who beat Zanesville.

Or that Columbus East(1-11) is on the same level, since they beat Grove City, who beat Newark, who beat Zanesville.
Re: "The People's Elite 8" week 3 sponsored by datchillicav
Wheeling Park was the former #1 in WV. I think they deserve more respect then a team that is not very good upsetting a good team. That is my point. Wheeling Park beat Zanesville, not this team beat that team who beat this team. I remember Wheeling Park beat Bellaire the year they beat Chesaepake in the Regional Finals as well. I think sterotyping one team based on quality of a few teams is not a good basis for debate. jmo

I know what your point was, but mine was that you can't just go off of, well they beat this team who beat this team, or it can get ridiculous(see my 2nd post for that)
Yes, there are a ton of bad teams in Ohio, as well as WV, but this is an OHIO forum, which is why people will doubt teams from across the state line. But, you also need to realize that people will vote however they vote and can't take every single person not putting Chesapeake #1 personal. They should get back to the Final Four this year, IMO, and have had a fantastic season thus far. So be pleased with that and just do your voting every week. I do and my team I follow hasn't even been to the Convo since 2001 and we're having our best year since then and we've only been slightly mentioned once in the 4 polls that have been done.

My whole comment was only stating that it's not just Portsmouth people who are putting Portsmouth higher than you have put them. You've been reading way too far into it. And contrary to your belief, it's not just little kids who are doing it either. I also find it funny that you originally put Portsmouth ahead of Warren in the poll, even though they beat Portsmouth, but maybe upon further evaluation you decided, that wouldn't help any of your arguments(nice edit)...fair enough though. But to your last point....a poll is what one interprets it to be, unless given specific guidelines. Many people probably do look at it as a poll of who is playing the best basketball right now....Others may look at it as who would win if these teams were playing each other right now....and others look at it as you, and say who has the best body of work. Furthermore, don't put words in my mouth....I never once made reference to the Ironton game, so why you keep doing so, as if that is the basis of my argument baffles me. That is what I consider "reaching" I made the comment, "you don't give Portsmouth anything" in reference to you ranking them and hating on anyone who put them higher than where you ranked them. You're the one who needs to quit reaching....let those "non Portsmouth fans" drink the Portsmouth Kool-aid. <<<<In reference to one of your previous posts....but you probably don't get that either....sheesh!!!

A pole is just that, a pole, Ironton who I give the upmost respect lost two games in the past 10 days and only dropped two spots in the AP poll.
Re: "The People's Elite 8" week 3 sponsored by datchillicav
Ok so maybe we need to change this elite 8 peoples poll to straight out D2 (4) and D3 (4) teams because lets face it Chilli should beat a Portsmouth or Piketon or Peake their bigger. I know bigger isnt always better but I did say "should".
D2
1. Chilli 9-1 AP #4
2. LE 10-1 AP #8
3. Warren
4. Zanesville AP #5
Sorry that I'm not that up with the D2 schools but I thought I would throw Zanesville in there.
D3
1. Peake 11-1 I'm only ranking them #1 because they beat Piketon in the tourney last year AP#4
2. Piketon 12-0 Should be #1 but to be the champ you got to beat the champ AP #2
3. Oak Hill 10-2 They got Norm love him or hate him he gets results cant argue with that AP#9
4. Portsmouth 10-4 Now with Bendolph at the helm they should be a tough out in the tourney.
D2
