SHL Rankings, Scores, and Standings Week #9
Re: SHL Rankings, Scores, and Standings Week #9
Re: SHL Rankings, Scores, and Standings Week #9
First the longshots:
For North Adams to win the division, they would need to win their last 5 league games (not likely with Whiteoak, Peebles, and Ripley on the menu), and Ripley would have to collapse, losing their final 5.
The same situation for Fairfield (depending on tonight's result against Lynchburg-Clay, where news of sports scores travels at the speed of smell)...if Peebles and Manchester collapse and they run the table, they could win the division. That's slightly possible, if they sweep the looming double-header against Manchester next weekend (a rare schedule fluke resulting from snow days...did Fairfield reschedule their Adena game?).
Lynchburg-Clay needs Ripley to lose to Peebles and Manchester, plus suffer a couple upsets to Whiteoak, Eastern, or North Adams. That said, the Mustangs can only afford one more loss (again, depending on tonight's score). If they beat Manchester tomorrow, they stay alive. If not, they're probably done and Ripley will win the Big School.
After tonight's win against Manchester, the Wildcats are still on the prowl. They trail Peebles by just two games. Best case scenario for the Cats: they beat the Indians on Tuesday, then Peebles falls to Ripley. Meanwhile, Whiteoak faces the bottom rungs of the standings: West Union, Fayetteville, and North Adams.
There's a good chance Peebles and Manchester will be neck-and-neck until the final game of the season. If Fairfield wins both games against Manchester--not out of the question--then Peebles has a two-game cushion where they can burn a loss to Ripley and most likely win the Small School.
Manchester has an uphill climb, with their last four games being more difficult than Peebles'.
HOWEVER...if Whiteoak beats Peebles (remember how close their last contest was....at Peebles) and Manchester takes two from Fairfield....then everything could come down to the final games Ripley. Peebles plays the Jays on February 12th, Manchester on the final day of the regular season, February 18th.
Lots of key games coming in the next few weeks as Ripley chases the Gold Ball and the Division 2 race stays tight....
Just remember Jays fans: the Greyhounds have experience at spoiling the gold ball on the last game of the season.
(By the way, I'm mostly assuming the best teams will beat the teams they should beat...though we all know an upset can always happen on the hardwood).

Re: SHL Rankings, Scores, and Standings Week #9
Just so your totals will be right jchitwood... I'm pretty sure Countryman only had 30 (which is still AWESOME) and Justice had 22.... I did see at one point the West Union scorekeeper gave one of Blake's buckets to Andy!! Can't believe Whiteoak upset Manchester tonight WOW just goes to show anything CAN happen on any given night!!!jchitwood wrote:Peebles over west union 84-68...game was much closer than it should have been, with the dragons down by 6 @ the half, and @ the end of the third. Andy Countryman with 32 points, Blake with 20, Jake Daniels had 11.

Haverightsto, I would have to say you are wrong also, In the first quarter Andy got credit for two when he hit a three, then shortly after they corrected it on the score board but not on individual scorers section, so by my math and C.103 Andy had 31 points. Also wanted to say to Jchitwood I enjoyed your breakdown of the SHL race and congrats to Andy Countryman on his first 30 point game.haverightsto wrote:Just so your totals will be right jchitwood... Sounds like Manchester is falling apart right now. Not a good time with the tourney comming up. What happened in the Whiteoak game? Did Blevins not play well, what about the other players... Who played good for Whiteoak, did they knock 3's down, did Michael dominate in the paint? Not a good thing for Manchester if they want to win the league.

From what I hear Manchester was having a hard time hitting shots...12 points at the half, according to one post.heatfan wrote:Sounds like Manchester is falling apart right now. Whiteoak is no scrub team, not by along shot. They have one of the toughest schedule sin the SHL, nearly beat Oak Hill, and fought toe-to-toe with Peebles till they ran out of gas in the fourth. They are a team that's better than their record. Manchester, on the other hand, has played a relatively soft lineup so far.
Of the Greyhounds' 11 wins, 3 have come against teams over .500. They've beaten Peebles and CNE (a weak team, imo) and Eastern Brown...who are just one game over middlin'. You can even give them credit for their very tight game against Reedsville Eastern.
They are currently 3-2 against teams over .500. They have some tough games around the corner that I think they can definitely win, against Ripley and Ironton.
Whiteoak has taken a while to find their stride after getting beaten by North Adams by 15 in the season opener. They've played very well against some good teams and fallen just short...then beat Manchester by 14.
Overall Whiteoak is 2-6 against winning teams (including state ranked Oak Hill, D2 Hillsboro, and 11-1 Williamsburg), and 4-2 against losing teams. It's also worth noting that they split against Fairfield, once with Cox and once without...
The teams that play tougher competition are always the ones to watch for in tournament time, especially if they have momentum.
Peebles is 8-0 against sub .500 teams, and 3-1 against winning teams. Again, they beat Fairfield twice, once BC (Before Cox) and once AC. I don't believe Eastern Brown was in the black when they beat them, so you could take them off the above .500 pile....
And for good measure...Ripley is 3-1 against teams over .500 and 9-0 against teams under.

manchester loses 2 straight and all of a sudden u guys wanna put em down..whiteoak loss shouldnt have happened if they didnt get screwed by refs...and people say their schedule is weak wow u guys r idiots if u ask me peebles has even weaker schedule
Re: SHL Rankings, Scores, and Standings Week #9
Now, now, now, I dont think the ref's miss the shots or make silly TO's, or foul. Manchester to me looked tired and not ready to play. You cant blame anything on the ref's. Matter of fact, I think one of the officals that was there actually works AT manchester. Talk about home cooking
Re: SHL Rankings, Scores, and Standings Week #9
I would have to disagree with the statement that Manchester is falling apart...they are just hitting a tougher part of their schedule and have a lot of competitive games coming up. The fact that they've lost two in a row just means what it is on the surface, they've lost two in a row. This league is too unpredictable and too even to think that one team is that much more dominant than another team. Whiteoak is a good team when they are clicking, as is Manchester, Peebles, etc...it's all about who's hot on a certain night and it comes down to matchups. It's like Chris Speilman says every year when people complain about Ohio State football's schedule...you play who is on it and try to go win the game and don't worry about what the critics say.

Wasn't at the game but heard that Whiteoak shot 31 free throws and Manchester shot 10. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

They've beaten Peebles and CNE (a weak team, imo)
EASY on those words that CNE team is in 1st place competing for a League title.. Dont Get so caught up on the SHL as mentioned earlier manchester is not very good, peebles is decent and ripley may run away with all of it!!! Manchester will make a tourney run because the go east and the competition is WEAK (AWFUL). Peebles will win a few games as well but lets get real Peebles goes east also!!! Ripley will have to face the powerhouse teams or the best sectional tournies in the sate CINCY!!!! ALL DIVISIONS!!!!! Ripley possibly vs Taft Taft state finals guarantee D 3 , D 4 Seven Hills power house !!!
D 2 Roger Bacon Powerhouse in the best conference in the state CHL. D 1 dont even need to explain look at the teams !! Ranked in the top 25 in the nation !! So come on now people get out of adams county brown county highland county and see some real basketball!!!!
and that my friends is theuglytruth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think Manchester is falling apart...imo they're still one of the best D4 teams in southeast Ohio...and I couldn't agree more about Peebles having a weak schedule. I don't you get to be 11-1 or 11-3 and not be any good.streetballer wrote:manchester loses 2 straight and all of a sudden u guys wanna put em down..whiteoak loss shouldnt have happened if they didnt get screwed by refs...and people say their schedule is weak wow u guys r idiots if u ask me peebles has even weaker schedule

Okay, let's talk about CNE. There are having a good year, and they do have a fairly tough schedule. (according to maxpreps, which is missing a few of their games) They're 4-4 against teams over .500, and 4-0 against teams under. Their wins against the higher tier teams include a 3 point victory against Gochen and a convincing 10-point win against Williamsburg.theuglytruth wrote:They've beaten Peebles and CNE (a weak team, imo)

HOWEVER....they have played the top 3 teams in the SHL this season and have lost 3 times. The top three teams beat them by a collective score of 220-157. Even if you factor in CNE's thumping of West Union, the SHL has still outscored them by 36 points.
I didn't say they were an awful team, I said they were weak. If they played in the SHL, they might be competitive for a league title, but by no means a frontrunner.

Re: SHL Rankings, Scores, and Standings Week #9
Taft is a quality team I will give you that(even though they recruited their entire starting lineup). I watched Roger Bacon play and was not very impressed...no chance of them contending for the state title this season(maybe its because a handful of their best players were recruited by Taft..??). D1 teams in the southwest are impressive this season....but how can you compare them to the southeast when we have one D1 team that has to go to another district to play in the tourny? Clermont Northeastern would(maybe) be the sixth best team in the SHL...for a D2 school thats pretty sad considering they would be playing against mainly D4 and smaller D3 teams. CNE would not advance past the sectionals if made to play in the SE against teams like Chillicothe, Hillsboro, Logan Elm, Vinton County, etc. D4 is pretty solid in the southwest but teams in the southeast have to play competition that is just as good to advance to the state tournament(Harvest Prep(didnt they beat Dayton Jefferson this season??..hmm), Tree of Life, Newark Catholic, etc.). Results dont lie and so far the SHL has outplayed CNE's conference on nearly every occasion with the exception of maybe Williamsburg(who has one good SHL win over Whiteoak).theuglytruth wrote:They've beaten Peebles and CNE (a weak team, imo)
