I've been thinking about getting my football license. So I was just wondering when/where classes form? And how long does it usually take to "move up the ranks"?

I would assume that if you do a good job, you will move up in the ranks very quickly.

# Step 1:Take OHSAA Officiating Class
Contact an approved OHSAA instructor, enroll and complete the officiating class. Class fees will vary and include the instructor's fee, application fee, rule books and testing.

# Step 2: Take Officiating Exam
The class concludes with the officiating exam. Applicants must receive a passing score of 75% on the mechanics and rules exams and pass the proficiency portion in order to be a licensed OHSAA official. Officiating certificates will be given to students with passing grades on test day. These students may begin officiating intersholastic contests immediately.
# Step 3: Receive Officiating Permit
Applicants with a passing score will receive their officiating permit in the mail within three weeks from their test date. If you do not receive your permit within this time frame, contact Officiating department at the OHSAA office (614-267-2502, ext. 110).
Note: Applicants receiving a grade of 65% - 74% on the mechanics or rules exam may request a retest. Applicants who do not pass the subsequent officiating exam must wait one year to re-enroll in the officiating class and start the application process over.
# Step 4: Contact your local officiating association

Renew your officiating permit annually in the month of June.

you will have to, officiate jv or below for the first 2 years. then take your upgrade to a class 1 before you can do varsity.

The Portsmouth Chapter has a class that usually begins in late summer. Keep an eye in PDT sports section, it will be posted there. Usually taught by Hank Craft. Good luck.
