1-28 Athens@Vinton Co.
Thoughts? Vinton Co. is coming off a big win at Alex and beating ZT before that. Athens coming off a win at Home with Nelsonville-York and a tough loss to Logan. If the Vikings come out ready to play and can shut Athens down to under 45 points this game is theirs.

I have believed for awhile now that the TVC-Ohio will have a 2-loss champion (or champions) ... The loss at Wellston by VC was huge - but if they knock off Athens in McArthur Friday - the league title race will be wide open IMO. Meigs still has to travel to ATHENS and to VINTON COUNTY.
Bottom line: Friday's game is the biggest game of the year (to date) in the Ohio Division.

VC , IMO, will want it more.

Re: 1-28 Athens@Vinton Co.
This was a great game to watch. Vinton jumped out an early lead, but Athens battled back on the three point shooting of Dean Maffin. Vinton County lead at the end of the first quarter 18-13 with Levi Lawhead scoring 8 for Vinton and Maffin scoring 8 for the Bulldogs. Vinton outscored Athens 13-11 in the second quarter with Maffin scoring 6 and L.B. Remy hitting three "3's" off the bench. It was 31-24 at halftime. Athens outscored Vinton 17-13 in the third period with Maffin scoring 9 of the points and Lawhead getting hot again hitting for 9 points. Jason Wiseman had a big fourth quarter as Vinton pulled away for the victory, scoring 7 points in the quarter. Maffin ending the game with a game high 26 points with 6 "3's". Orhon Mentese had 8, Joe Germano had 7 points, Ian Dixon 6, Josh Skinner 5, and Nick Stanley had 2 points. Lawhead ended up with 23 points, Jason Wiseman had 13, LB Remy had 9, Shawn Amerine 6, Adam Ward 5, Justin Breniser 3, and Ryan Chesser 2. The top three teams in the league each have 2 losses and anybody can beat you on a given night. This is what high school basketball is all about.

Totally enjoyed the game last night. Probably one of the best officiated games I have seen in a long time. The crew did an exceptional job both ways and kept the game completely in control. The Maffin boy from Athens is an awesome player. Adam Ward trailed him the entire 4th quarter and I believe that made a big difference in the outcome. He only had a couple good looks at the basket after lighting VC up in the 3rd. Lawhead is a team player on both sides of the ball. He plays great defense and hustles the whole game. Tourny time is going to be good in this area....

Unlucky for Athens and Vinton County - they both play in the D-II Logan sectional skidaddy.
Warren (12-1), Logan Elm (11-2), Sheridan (12-2) and Marietta (11-3) all have to compete in that sectional as does Fairfield Union (6-8 with a very tough schedule) and Gallia (5-8).
Its just a brutal sectional.

I completely agree with the rest of your post, but will have to respectfully disagree with these three sentences. For me, it was one of the most frustrating games to watch for the exact opposite reasons.skidaddy wrote:Totally enjoyed the game last night. Vinton County's 61-54 win last night moved the Vikes into first place (by a half-game over Meigs) in the TVC-Ohio. Here's the HH Game Recap!

diamondD1 - the game last night was called NO WORSE than the game at Athens between the same two teams. Were there missed calls? Yes, there were - BOTH WAYS - not one way. I am sure that ANYONE that watches ANY game will see things to their teams advantage, but I really don't believe that the outcome of the game was on the officials heads. I have a cousin whose kids go to Athens, mine go to VC. When I complain about officials in Athens to him I hear how wrong I am. You have a right to your oppinion! I respect that. Accept the loss as you would ask us to accept it the other way around. Sometimes a team just gets beaten - NOT SCREWED!

3sportdad, I didn't say Athens got screwed or that the officials were responsible for the outcome of the game. I just (respectfully) disagreed with the three statements made above: (1) That it was one of the best officiated games in a long time; (2) The crew did an exceptional job both ways; and (3) Kept the game completely in control.
I simply disagree. That's all. No blaming. No suggesting someone else is wrong and I am right. Just simply disagreed with the statements.
Nor was it intended to take anything away from the VC team. They certainly won the game of hustle and deserved to come away with the win.

I would have to absolutly agree with that one ... I have not seen a Jeff Skinner led team shy away from loose balls and rebounds since he took back over the reigns. At least 7 or 8 times Friday the ball came off the rim and just bounced on the floor (a lot of times right in front of 2 or 3 Athens players) and they just stood their and watched as a Vinton County player swooped in and scooped it up.
I know high school kids can be fickle sometimes - and the game in McArthur proved that. I am confident though Coach Skinner will right-the-ship and get the boys back to being agressive again.

Who won the VC-Shekinah Christian game Saturday night? Anyone have a score?
