Valley-Portsmouth sign contact for 2012-2013
Re: Valley-Portsmouth sign contact for 2012-2013
I really do think Minford would have beat PHS these past two years and since they're so close they should be allowed into the SOCII. Minford does scrimmage PHS and they have a competitive mock-game. Move NW to SOC I and let Portsmouth in.

Read the post in this thread...This is more than about football. There are a lot more high school sports than football. Why would Northwest get out? You honestly think Northwest could go from Minford-West-Burg-Valley gates to ND-Green-SV gates and everything be ok? From a competition standpoint, all this drop NW to SOC I talk, make sense. Otherwise, it doesn't.

Yes, b/c they would start winning games, and football is the biggest moneymaker. Besides NW week in the SOCII is when most fans, other than parents, go out and watch the game of the week, so I dont think any NW gate is that big. If they were winning games, they would draw a larger crowd and probably get more boys to come out and stick with the program.

Trojans lost in the last 14 seconds to eventual SOC Champ Burg. West destroyed PHS, so who knows who would have one. PHS healthy would have been competitive with the remaining SOC teams just as they were with Burg, injuries ravaged several local teams this year, West and Valley would have been different teams with their best players as well. Difference was PHS played without theirs from the 4th week on, and even had to start the 3rd string QB (actually a WR one game). Not making any predictions either way other than good games if all healthy. West and Burg already proved they were better this year.
PHS most years probably is in the top 2 or 3 in football, Basketball, Baseball. However PHS track with a few standout exceptions, doesn’t have the numbers to field a team that would compete for a league title.
Golf and Tennis PHS may as offer successful teams, but I don’t see anything there that PHS is running away with each year.
Girl’s sports, PHS is far from a juggernaut. With SOC schools regularly defeating PHS girls in several sports. Normally fielding strong tennis, and an occasional softball or basketball team, although both have been down for several seasons.
PHS also puts out a decent swim team, and the SEOAL doesn’t have swimming for us.
Truthfully if there is an avenue that PHS could dominate the most likely category would be basketball, although I think South Webster proved that this year, anyone can still beat anyone on any given night.
There has to be a way to make this happen. I don’t know what it is, and PHS has the most to gain from it, but it would be a plus for all the SOC 2 schools as well. If they aren’t the ones keeping PHS out, they should be trying to do everything they can to sway the smaller teams to vote PHS in. It’s a big gate for all the SOC 2 schools, I see how there are no benefits for the SOC1 schools to want PHS in. I don’t know how to sweeten the pot for them. Maybe a gate sharing program. I thought last time when we applied with South Gallia was our best chance although I knew it still wouldn’t happen. Although in that situation the smaller schools at least also gained from South Gallia.
Lastly Ironton will not be welcomed into the SOC or OVC for the same reasons a PHS, and then add the dominance of their football teams. There is no chance of it happening anytime soon. Only way it happens is if the SOC decides a to have a massive expiations bring in PHS, Jackson, Gallia, and the likes and forms a third division. Just my opinion.

I don't care if only the Valley, Minford, and Burg's parents went to the games, they still outdraw Green, SV, and ND. You are still only looking at the Football side of things. There are still around 10 other varsity sports you have to consider here.
