Triplett's a good coach...hes had success everywhere hes been, I mean he didn't post any winning records at Rv, but he did beat Gallia Academy and Logan, now those weren't the best teams Ga and Logan ever fielded, but thats pretty impressive...they also played in Seoal until 2000 (not sure about year) which was a very tough conference at that time...at any rate Rv seems to be one of those job like Northwest that have the kids but not the success...Rvbballdude wrote:I think this statement is a little lopsided, considering they have played in a league that in one season 2004 put 4 teams in the playoffs out of 6.KarlAgathon wrote:Yes, mtswngrvsg, but if that was all it took to be successful at RV, then the school wouldn't be looking for its sixth head coach in 20 seasons.
The coaches that have been at River Valley have not been seasoned winners with the exception of one who left because the money was better. The rest have been experiments and economy hires by the board, the Ad had 0 knowledge of Boys High School sports for the last dozen years. The board doesn't care about sports at all. Grave Yard of Coaches???? Come on all of them were assistants and experiments, they were not exactly hired out from another school who was wanting them.
When and if ever they get a Coach who has been a head coach and is given time to get things in order, things will turn around.
It all takes time, they are athletes coming into the 9th grade next year 23 kids on the 8th grade basketball team and not just bodies, most are raw but this is what we have needed. Time will tell.

rvbballdude,
Go to joeeitel.com. It has past 10 years or so of rankings. It breaks it down into divisions and regions. This is a good site in the fall season.
Couldn't find 4 out of 6, but found 3 out of 6 in 2003.

Re: River Valley Coach Resigns -- for real?
Living in the past and discussing past coaches knowledge really means nothing, new school and different kids are there now. I do see more togetherness at the new school as far as attendance at games like the GA game and the sectional game in Athens.
The problem at River Valley in the past has been getting kids to work for the next year in any sports program (great point on the muscle definition). RV's kids want to wear the uniform and hang out with the team while season is going on but not lift or show up for open gyms in summer, not go to the weight room on their own not go to camps not play AAU or any other traveling teams at the jv and Varsity levels (volley ball is the exception).
The parents also jump in and want to tell the coach what is best for their kids, not be hands off until the season is over, then work for next year.
What I am seeing now are more parents (a lot ) from other places getting involved and kids are getting it and working more.
Lets hope!
Good luck to all RV kids and may they start working off their butts in the off season.
I heard over 20 or around 20 applications for the RV head football coaching position, that is a change. Looks like the new facilities at least are attractive to someone?

At least one coaching candidate that I know plans to pull his application because SB 5 has convinced him to stay at his job across the river.

Re: River Valley Coach Resigns -- for real?
this is a new era, new school new coach and next year new kids, big freshman class coming in?
please before we start the nay saying and talking the program down let's see who the coach is and see what the attitude is.
all the x-coaches and staff that actually never changed in like a 10 yr span need to be gone and start over with a new plan.
i hope they completely clean house like they did in other sports.
lets give the new coach a chance before we start the negative crap.

My statement had nothing to do with RV but more to do with him staying in the state he was in rather to coming to Ohio where things are so uncertain for education right now.

I didn't know they had "cleaned house" in other sports.
Word through the grapevine from Gallia Co to our area of Meigs Co is coaches left/got out/resigned for the simple fact they had enough. Word is the new head coach will be able to bring in an entire staff since all assistants have resigned.
Just my opinion as an outsider looking in, I don't see it as the coaches being the problem. Never has been in any sport. IMHO it's an attitude problem from the community, mostly the parents, that infects the kids minds. An attitude that we'll blame the coach for my failures attitude.
I don't follow football near as much as basketball and baseball but from what I've seen the basketball staffs over the last 5-7 years have won more games than what they probably should have. Baseball seems to be unorganized and undisciplined.

I will have to disagree with you on the basketball talent being sub par!Chained Eagle wrote:Blue_nd_Gray wrote:this is a new era, new school new coach and next year new kids, big freshman class coming in?

only since the 08 season has that talent been down. 04-05 was prob the 3rd most talent on any team in southern Ohio, behind ironton and chesapeake.
05-06 young team had size that group had been pretty successful (not sure of that record) maybe 8-9 wins?
06-07 senior laiden team had plenty of talent
07-08 defeated a 1 loss regular season oak hill @ rio loads of talent size and quicknesss
not bashing anyone or talking anyone down,i agree on the attitudes, the kids are lazy! parents condone it!

04-05 your not serious? 3rd most talent in southern ohio? 10 wins i think. no depth.Blue_nd_Gray wrote:I will have to disagree with you on the basketball talent being sub par!Chained Eagle wrote:Blue_nd_Gray wrote:this is a new era, new school new coach and next year new kids, big freshman class coming in?

05-06 ok size. young. won 10 games. if you remember that team very well they had never been taught to play defense until they got to varsity level. thought they could always outscore people. won a few games they shouldnt have (rh, sp)
06=07 10 wins again. didn't get any better than the previous year.
07-08 decent talent and size. quickness? compared to who? fairland? sp? eastern? GA? peake? or r you comparing to rv jr hi or something? won some jv games the last few years with juniors and sophs playing against sophs and freshmen.
08-09 little depth but more quickness than previous years(johnson, curnutte, mac) 6wins? not sure.
09-10 little depth. little size. 5-6 wins.
10-11 went 7 deep, average quickness little size. won 9 games. level of competition down. (fairland, cg, rh, sp, ga, southern not as good as they were 06-09) also not playing ironton, eastmoor, oak hill, alexander, and very good fh teams.
problem out in the county is ppoor attitudes and work habits, parents condoning and expecting everything to be handed to their kids instead of the kids earning their rewards through hard work. its that way in all the team sports. look at any successess, always individual sports (track, wrestling, golf, xc).
two winning seasons in fball and 4 in baskeball boys.
i hope to see things change and the teams start winning more in the future but there have been some good men, good coaches there in the past that couldnt seem to change the attitude.

04-05 norm peirson Quote "the only 2 teams on our schedule i am concerned about is river valley and ironton,"team started 7-0 until reese went down against coal grove (rolling over teams),lost the next 4 until reese came back. depth went 8 deep ,this team should have won 15 games, lost to meigs in the sectional a team they beat by 20 both times they played them. played a very good ironton team to a 7 point game.
no excuses here! harder 6' 7" was the BEST player in the county! reese was 6' 4" deadly shooter,2 guards were good sized smith, roush, clark was a solid point guard, ,tipton was an animal on the boards.
once again LOL
LOL! You def know the kids LOL, as far as any team JV or Varsity being taught defense before stout/hill arrived is a complete joke, they went through the motions, ask all the parents of the kids who have a lil knowledge about basketball. it was all offense in that era.also ask the kids who transformed into the stout/hill era. no comparison 08/09 the ones you named.
poor coaching at the frosh level as well.
when you get rid of every coach in the hs system it is cleaning house!!
are you a rinky dink coach or something? LOL

Re: River Valley Coach Resigns -- for real?
blue n gray,
I agree with you they started out hot and rolling. That was 1 of the better basketball classes to come out of RV in the past decade, but compare them to other schools. I would say they were average or maybe a little above average if you think of other schools. I think you need to get your facts straight too.
1) That 04-05 team did not start 7-0
2) Although a close game for a quarter or maybe a half, Ironton ended up beating them by 20+
Not a fact here but....
3) As pine already said, that player quit. So if he was such an animal he would have stuck it out for the whole year.
I don't know how this got started on the football thread. Should start interviews soon since bball is over and AD can concentrate on finding a new coach.
