Thanks to Peake for "getting the truth" out there........Logan did not lose @ Chapmanville (won by 20+). As I stated in an earlier post.....trying to build oneself up by putting others "down" is tired!!!!!!! Both teams are good and may get the chance to settle it on the hardwood.......respect all......FEAR none..........Go Peake!!!!!!!!!

Let's not lose sight of the fact that both Peake and Trojan Fb Alumn made honest mistakes......Peake wasn't off the hook either, as he owned up to the fact that he was wrong about Ithe total of ronton's losses as well.....
Re: "The People's Elite 8" sponsored by datchillicav week 4
I was off a loss for Ironton, who will probably get their 6th loss on Friday to Huntington High.
I was not off a 20+ win and call it a loss to try and build a case for Logan not being very good. Logan's schd laughs in the face of anyone in SEO including Chilli. If anyone is playing Logan's schd they are probably looking at best a .500 record imo.
I have owned up to my mistakes and said countless times "I could be wrong" about many things, other on here, cough the one who posted above me, can't be adults and move on. They must fixate on a comment I said I was wrong about.
My point remains the same. Great win for Portsmouth, you are obviously a very good team, but I am not putting you above Chesapeake in my poll because you beat Chilli. Why, because polls reflect and entire season of work, not a 4 game stretch.
After the Logan loss Chesapeake has beaten Spring Valley by 30+, Ironton by 15, Rock Hill by 58, and Coal Grove by 52. I would say that is solid basketball being played up to this point. They still have to play Fairland (10-5 beat Oak Hill) twice. That should be a good test for Chesapeake.

Re: "The People's Elite 8" sponsored by datchillicav week 4
I really could care less where Portsmouth is ranked in any poll.........but I do know this.......our defense has been good all year, but with Andrew Bendolph back, the Trojans' defense has been taken to a whole new level.........PHS is allowing 46.8 PPG (in uptempo games), and their opponents field goal pct. is consistently under 40%........Portsmouth is forcing more turnovers, and also has done very well on the boards, even outrebounding a taller Chillicothe team.
Portsmouth has been criticized by me, and many others, for mediocre defense in the past several years, and rightfully so.........but the same criticism cannot be pointed at these Trojans.......Since AB returned, PHS has given up 60, 53, 44, 42, 41, and 38 points (going 6-0)......none of those games were slowdown affairs (PHS scoring 65.6 PPG). Andrew's on-ball defense is the best I have seen in the SE District this year, and the best at Portsmouth in many, many years.......he has simply taken every point guard he has faced out of the game. The two best teams the Trojans have faced since AB's return, Chillicothe and Ironton, were held to 42 and 41 points respectively.........that is championship level defense.
But it's not just Andrew Bendolph's defense.......collectively, I think teams will have trouble finding a weakness in attacking Portsmouth's defense........we have excellent quickness out front, and two bigs who take care of business inside. Even the kids off the bench are contributing good D minutes.
If the Trojans can maintain that level of play on the stop end of the court, there's no question that they can go to Columbus, regardless of what any poll says, or who plays who, or who has the most quality wins, or any comparative score analysis.

Very good point, sportsfan43.........and I've seen quite a few examples of talking about "recent success".
We're very proud of our 4 state titles in Portsmouth, and even though the last one was 23 years ago, it's still just as special as if we won it all last year. I personally have been blessed to have watched my school play for 4 state titles, going 2-2. It is a feeling unlike any other in high school basketball.

Thanks, independent 2012 for the poll.......it's nice to see our kids get recognized, but as I said in my post above, I would rather see us prove our worth on the court with our stifling D.
Re: "The People's Elite 8" sponsored by datchillicav week 4
Past ready for all the "talk" to move to the hardwood.........Is it tourney time yet? No.......we have to wait how many more weeks???? Peake needs to keep their momentum and competitive edge......6 left and poss. no close ones.........time will tell.... ? trojandave......this stifling D-----work against a team with 4 who can score????? Just asking.......
Re: "The People's Elite 8" sponsored by datchillicav week 4

OK, guys I went off the first results I could find for Logan. You know they aren’t getting coverage here on SEOP. Peak made the comment first about not thumping his chest about beating a 6 lose team. I was wrong Logan is only a 5 loses team, so go ahead and continue to thump your chest. Oh, wait what’s that? Ironton’s only has 5 loses also? Well them THUMP THUMP THUMP. OH YEAH
Since you wanted to post Logan’s loses, let’s look at Ironton’s with the exception of the Portsmouth game. 13-1 Cincinnati Taft, 11-2 John Glenn, the two loses to Chesapeake ( who’s only loses is to the “BEST TEAM IN WVâ€) SO yeah I think the Ironton win is something worth thumping over, Peak should feel free to thump away on that too. Now granted it’s not as impressive as upsetting a rival, who is ranked 5th in division two, and who has a young man already committed to UTEP, and another 6 foot 7 block machine. Now if someone did that, that would be impressive. OH YEAH that’s what my Trojans did .

kb4peake: Yes, I do believe that Portsmouth's defense is good enough to get them to the Final 4, even against a scoring team........by the way, we have 3 kids who are averaging 16+ PPG ourselves, averaging as a team 65.6 PPG since Andrew Bendolph returned.
We beat a high scoring Chesapeake team last year.......a Final 4 Chespeake team.......and we played mediocre defense last year. Defensively, there's absolutely no comparison between the Trojans of this year and last.
The Panthers are every bit as good or better than last year's version, but the Trojans are much better than the team that beat CHS last season.
Our kids have been focused with each game........they know how important that beating Marietta and Gallia Academy is for that #2 seed. I'm hoping that there isn't an emotional letdown going to Marietta tomorrow, which is natural with kids after a HUGE win vs. a BIG rival.
There are regular season goals for our kids......still in the running for the SEOAL title and winning out to go 16-4 will give us our best regular season since 1991, when we posted an 18-2 mark en route to a final record of 22-3. The 1999 and 2001 teams both went 15-4 in the regular season, and both won district titles.

kb4peake: You mentioned keeping a competitive edge for your Panthers......and I agree 100%.......that's why I'm glad that the Trojans finish the regular season on the road, with games at Logan and at Warren.......good to finish away from home because there are no home games in the tourney.

Had an interesting chat with Coach Gary Kellough of Chillicothe at the Flyin' To The Hoop Classic in Dayton........we were talking back and forth about our teams, and he told me something that resonated with what I have been saying about the Trojans' defense this year.......he said the key to our success this year will be our defense.......and Coach Kellough has a state championship on his resume........I think Cavalier fans will agree in unison that his defensive minded approach completely changed the fortunes of Chillicothe basketball.......and right now the Trojans have a defensive mentality that hasn't been seen in a long time.......it certainly was evident Tuesday night vs. the Cavaliers.
Coach Collins and his staff have done a fabulous job of making this team defensive oriented.
