King James is spot on - neither team is allowed "inside" the restraining line on that respective "side" or "end" of the court during the ball being in bounded.

CB #1... The act of the defense reaching across the end line is a warning the first time... but touching the ball across the line is a technical foul immediately with no warning.

tazz,
If you touch the ball or player (while the ball is in the thrower inners hands) who is taking the ball out of bounds then it is a technical foul immediately. If you touch the ball after it has been released or break the out of bounds line before the ball crooses it then you have a warning the first time. Then it will be a technical from then on!! I said that the first time, I think you misunderstood me!!!

Last and first in the over and back violation. Offense can't be the last in front court and the first in backcourt. Easy way to remember it.

NEW PLAY

PLAYER A 1 rebounds the basketball and trips over Team B player who is laying on the floor. Player A 1 falls to the floor with control of the ball. What's the call?

I can't remember seeing the word "continuation" in the high school rule book, but what do I know. :roll: What is suppose to happen.... it is the judgment of the official as to what motion taking place when the contact occurs; is that motion a normal part that player's act of shooting. Judgment is kin to "wisdom" and "opinion"!! Opinions are expressed by everyone and there is not enough wisdom in the world; so there is never going to be a consensus about "continuation". :mrgreen:

I love these rules questions!!!! :aaaaa21

I have to correct something I said earlier. If a defensive player reaches through the out of bounds line and makes contact with the (thrower inner), it is an intentional foul. The team taking the ball out of bounds will be given 2 shots and the ball out of bounds at the spot where the violation occured!! If they make contact with the ball while @ the disposal of the thrower inner, it is a technical foul-2 shots-ball taken out @ midcourt. If they make contact with the ball after the ball has been released- you can have two things called-Warning for breaking the out of bounds line (delay) or technical foul for touching the ball!!!

Be careful here==>>
Rule 9 SECTION 2 THROW-IN PROVISIONS
ART. 10. . . The opponent(s) of the thrower shall not have any part of his/her person through the inbounds side of the throw-in boundary-line plane until the ball has been released on a throw-in pass.

NOTICE that after the ball has been released, the restriction on the defense about reaching over the inbounds line goes away. So if the ball is released, you can't have a warning or technical foul for delay of game...

Can you have a jump ball with Team A standing out of bounds?
Is the ball awarded to team B since team A is standing out of bounds?
This is such a dumb question. The answer is so obvious. You call a technical foul for offensive interference on the visiting team. Then give free throws and possession to Waterford. Afterwards, look for that little extra something in your paycheck......Geez. Read the rule book.

CB #1... Not to argue just to discuss, trivia if you want to call it about reaching across the plane and touching a released ball.
2010-2011 rule book page 54 under penalties...If an opponent(s) of the thrower reaches through the throw-in-boundary-line plane and touches or dislodges the ball while in possession of the thrower or being released to a teammate outside the boundary line (as in 7-5-7), a technical foul shall be assessed to the offender. No warning for the delay required. See 10-3-10 Penalty.

I really would like to hear some of the experienced officials talk about continuation versus on the floor in high school basketball. It gets called more and more every year.
