SHL Scores and Standings Week #12
SHL Scores and Standings Week #12
Ripley falls short of the Gold Ball, while still clinching the Big School win. Peebles and Manchester draw #1 seeds, as our thoughts turn to touney time. But not so fast, you hardwood heroes. We've still got ONE final week of great SHL basketball to play, and the Small School is still a two-person race.
1. The Peebles Indians (17-1, 10-1) proved they're tops in the league with a convincing win over Ripley. Blake Justice now holds the PHS record for most points in a game (50), while the team suffers an injury to 6th man Brandon Leedy. One more lSHL win clinches the League for the Indians. That could come against longtime rivals North Adams on Tuesday.
2. The Manchester Greyhounds (15-3, 9-2) showed the Ironton Tigers that it's hard for cats to win a scrap in a dog pound. The Hounds are still in the hunt an SHL championship. If Peebles loses their games, and Manchester beats Ripley and Fairfield, they win the division.
3. The Ripley Blue Jays (16-2, 11-1) fell short of taking down the Indians last week. This week they have another tough SHL matchup when they play Manchester in the Gym Down By the River.
4. The Fairfield Lions (8-9, 6-5) finally tipped their SHL record over .500, as they gear up for a final regular-season game against Manchester. Can they finish with their heads above water? They have two key games against Hillsboro and the Hounds. If they win one of those, I think they'll at least break even. After losing 5 of their first 6, that would be quite a feat. Dangerous team come tourney time.
5. The Whiteoak Wildcats (7-11, 5-7) have had one roller coaster season. They nearly upset state-ranked Oak Hill early on, pounce on Manchester, give Peebles a scare--then lose games to North Adams and Lynchburg-Clay. This week they have Felicity and their final SHL game, against West Union.
6. the Eastern Brown Warriors (9-8, 4-7) are fighting off their first losing season since 2008. This week they face a Fairfield Lions teams that's got a lot of pride on the line, and end-of-the-tablers West Union. I'll guess they'll finish how they've staye dall season: even Stephen.
7. The North Adams Green Devils (5-12, 4-7) have been through a roller coaster of highs and lows this year: Highs: Coach Young gets victory 400, and they upset the likes of Whiteoak (twice). Lows: Losing 3 straight games by 30+ points, Coach Young's health problems, and suffering their first consecutive losing seasons in 10 years. Still, this is only the 3rd time in 22 years they've lost for two seasons in a row, and you know this program will bounce back.
This week they have a rivalry game with Peebles, thier final SHL game with Fayetteville, and Finneytown.
8. The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs (7-12, 6-6) have had a respectable SHL year, probably finishing at 6-7. This week the 'Stangs go to Peebles. Blake Justice is likely to overtake Paul Cluxton as SHL points leader in their matchup Friday.
9. The West Union Dragons (1-16, 0-12) have one they can win this week, against St. Patrick. You've got the Southern Hills behind you, boys. The school will be starting production on their school musical soon. If you've never seen a show at West Union High School, I highly recommend it.
10. Props to the Fayetteville Rockets (2-16, 1-11) and the West Union Dragons. Losing is hard. Knowing you're likely to lose is hard. But you haven't given up, and you play because you love the game. Years from now you'll look back on these times fondly, and you'll be proud of yourselves, no matter where your record stands. We're all proud of you.
Thanks for a great season to all the players, coaches, and fans.

Jchitwood, Peebles plays @ North Adams. I also heard they are having some sort of hall of fame induction ceremony that includes current assistant coach and former Green Devil/SHL great Nathan Copas.

Funny how they save this for the next game at home with Peebles. Why not just their next home game after the rescheduling due to snow?

Big Jake had a real nice game for the Indians tonight with 30 points, followed by Blake with 28 and Trent played a real nice floor game.

Also Peebles will, at minimum, tie for the SHL small school championship.

After looking at the box score it appears Aric Carroll had a good game for Hillsboro, another that slipped away.TribeManiac10 wrote:That actually suprised me a little. I figured Fairfield would pull this one out.jchitwood wrote:Hillsboro over Fairfield, 62-55.

Re: SHL Scores and Standings Week #12
North Adams saved this event to make sure there was a big crowd. Our principle was in charge of this. I think it was great how respectful the Peebles crowd was as they stood when the names were announced. I would personaly like to thank them for being so polite.
