thanks for the update jgordon. they are appreciated!

"GREAT WIN FOR THE TROJANS" Now on to the tournament. Time to run these boys in practice a little bit and get them ready for the bigger courts. To bad Grant gym isn't still there. Coach Heller used to bring the teams from the late 60's over there to practice. Maybe Shawnee State is available! Just Kidding.

LETS GO TROJANS

Great game, evenly matched until about 6:00 to go in 4th. Portsmouth caught FIRE...WOW! Scoring 19 straight...hitting from everywhere. I thought Warren played a good game up to that point, then lost their composure. If P-town can play with that intensity in the Tourney they will go far. Gut check time for Warren Local...if they learn and build from this they can still make a great run.

Goodluck to the Trojans.

PHS rolling finishing the season with 11 in a row. 2 wins vs the division 2 #1 seeds in the SE district. 16-4 which like TrojanDave said is the best record since 1991.

Warren boys ran out of gas plain and simple and lost their composure and there was no way they were going to stop the 3's. The only problem I had was Portsmouth doing their thing after the game while the guys from the ambulance was trying to help the older gentleman that was poss. having a stroke in the stands, a little quiet would have been appropriate at that time.

I think the score was 50 to 47 and we scored 21 strait points. Great game for the Trojans and good effert by Warren. Good luck to Warren in the Playoffs.

We seen the rescue Squad comming in as we were leaving, We hope he is ok and we will be praying for him.

I was unable to attend the game. What thing are you referring to. As I said I wasn't there, and I was wondering what they were doing to celebrate or what. I would assume that they were unaware of the gentleman having a possible stroke. Just 17 year old boys probably excited about a big win, against a team that has turned into a little bit of a rival.

Congrats Trojans on a great regular season, but your work is not done. Prepare for the second season, and continue to prove what Portsmouth basketball is.

Congrats Warren on a great year as well, and best of luck in the tournament, I would love to see either you or Chillicothe in the D2 final 4, and PHS in the D3. I think this can happen too. SEOAL is the best basketball league in southeast Ohio.

Trojandave, biggdowgg, Ozzie, glad I know who you are now. Its good to talk to people like you that are behind their team the way I am. A well played game except for that RUN. The Warriors had NO answer for that! It will take a really good team to withstand a run like your Trojans displayed. I still think the Warriors will be alright. They played hard and the defense was good until that run. Loosing to Portsmouth once and Chilli twice is nothing to sneeze about. 17-3 still a great season!!! Coach Maddox will have them ready for Wed. night. Time to refocus and move down the tourny. road. The New Season Starts NOW!!!!! Good Luck TROJANS, and as always GO TEAM WARREN WARRIORS!!!!!!!

Im am guessing with all the hype after winning a big game on the road, and all the people in that place the boys was not aware of what was going one, these kids would never disrespect a situation like that, this is a great group of young men, and likme posted above prayers for the gentlman we hope he is OK.

when we went into the 4th qtr ,my first thought was,,here we go again, another buzzer beater, then I think we hit on three 3s in a row,and played some outstanding defense to help keep the lead.

best of luck to Warren, it was a pleasure meeting some posters and some of their coaches.

... have to say it - Portsmouth is the best team I have seen this year based on their performance tonight vs a very good Warren Warriors squad - WOW! 11 straight wins, finishing #2 alone in the SEOAL , dismantling Warren at the WarriorDome ... very close game , no more than 6 points either way through 3 quarters ... Warren battled even at 48 on the strength 2 three balls by Tyler Ward in the 3rd ... the Warriors went up 50-48 to start the 4th inside buckets by Venham and Cummingham ... with 6 minutes to play Coach Collins hit the nitrous oxide lever on his Trojans as PHS rained 3's down on Warren - Evans (1),Whitley(2) treys started a Portsmouth run that didn't stop until PHS had taken total control with a 21-2 run and pushed the Portsmouth lead to 69-50 ... game, set and match ... Portsmouth 75 Warren 58 a final ...

... Warren official "Unofficial" Napkin Stats...

Scoring ... Cunningham 14, Venham 13, Tyler Ward 11, Winland 6, Leffingwell 4, Hastie 2,Knost 2, French 3, Patton 3

3 Pointers ... 5/16 ... Ward 3, French 1, Patton 1

FTs ... 3/5 ...

TOs ... 8

... Portsmouth official "Unofficial Napkin Stats ...

Scoring ...McKinley 23, Evans 20, Bendolph 15, Whitley 8, Underwood 6, Jordan 3

3 Pointers ... 6/16 ... seemed like about 20 made threes during the that 21-2 run in the 4th LOL ... 3 dagger were enough ...

FTs ... 13/14 ... one of the best FT shooting teams I have seen this season, will pay dividends in the post season ...

TOs ... 12

... some pfloyd IMOs ...

... Warren is a very good team, Portsmouth on this night was an OUTSTANDING "TEAM" ... PHS has the potential to take it to the show in C'bus ... a "total" TEAM package: 1.) the best PG in Southern Ohio in Bendolph - the kid runs the show, gets the ball where it needs to be whether that is via the pass or off the dribble, may be the quickest pg with the ball I have seen AND he IS a scoring threat inside and behind the 3 point line ; 2.) great perimeter scorers in Bendolph, Evans, Whitley, AND the big man in the middle Dion McKinley ; 3.) size in the paint - not just size BUT athletic, strong rebounders AND scorers around the rim in Underwood and McKinley ... I would rate Dion McKinley THE BEST big man down low that I have seen in a long time, great hands and can get the ball to the rim ... 4.) TEAM speed on defense that can/does make life miserable for opposing perimeter players 5.) Portsmouth pushes the ball up court as fast or faster than any team I've seen ... PHS "penalizes" the opposition in transition AND even more so when the opposition scores - impressive ... could be a very special season for Coach Collins & Co. ...

Dion , also has a nice stroke from that 3 point line also..although I would raher see him under the basket working, but for a big man he has a nice shot out there.

... biggdowgg it's always good to run into all of the Portsmouth contingent from SEOPs ... you are all true high school sports & PHS fans ... trojandave has mellowed !!! LOL ... no warnings from the local police or anything ;-p ... glad everyone made it back to P'town safely, looking forward to seeing the Trojans at the Convo and beyond in a couple weeks ... by the way the committee of one - me - was extremely impressed with that Trojans basketball TEAM tonight ... Elite 8 comes out Monday night this week after the Sheridan vs John Glenn game for the MVL championship ...

Warren played poorly in my eyes. I also heard that they didn't play so well up at Gallia. They need to get it together for tournaments.

That place is loud if they hit a bucket to take the lead or in the last 20 seconds something happens. Kind of disappointing.

Observations from the stands: Warren has had two losses and a close game with Gallia (shouldn't have been close) this past week since tournament drawings. Not exactly the performance you would expect from the #1 seed. Peaked too soon? Are there internal problems that we outsiders are not aware of? What happened to the so-called "money player/shot" last night? I saw that a couple of JV players that don't always dress varsity (one a freshman) was in the game last night. Have to agree with ohiobaseball about the noise at their games, but will add one more time they are loud..when the TV cameras are on them!

Agreed, the student sectin was not at the height of their game last night, as has been the case most of the year. Unfortunately, the teams record shows that doesn't matter much. Portsmouth has a very good team. They have ball handlers, and shooters, and big men that want the rebound. They are hungry for the win.

Warren is the same team they were two weeks ago. The last two games have been a let down, if you are an adrenaline junky, and need your fix. As far as internal problelms, who knows or cares. Its a bad time to lose your intensity, especially if you want to go far in the tourny. IMO, the Logan Sectionals are gonna be a tough place to advance from. Back to last nights game. We just didn't have it defensively, we needed to shut down the inside game, and to do that you can't let them get the ball into the paint. Give credit where credit is due. Portsmouth was one guard away from a complete team when we played at Portsmouth. Now that we have played a complete team, we should be stronger, and know what it takes to beat a team of their strength. The small court hurt us last night, that can happen.

Hats off to Portsmouth, you have made your needed adjustments and it fares you well. Good Luck in the Tourny.
