Re: Convo?
I know it starts pretty darn soon - and being a resident of Athens - I'm definitly excited! Hosting the District Basketball Tournament is just about the best thing/event Athens has IMO ... We use to host the American Legion State Baseball Tournament for years; but lost it to Lancaster, which really sucked ... But even still, the District & Regional Basketball Tournament was - and always will be - No. 1 in my book.
And yes, I place it over the Holloween Block Party.
Good luck to all the teams and fans coming to A-town for the tourney ... and BTW ... I hope everyone enjoys the new 'round-a-bout' when you come off Rt. 32, 33 & 50 onto Richland Ave ... It's soooooo much easier & quicker now to get off the exit and to the Convo.

Re: Convo?
How long before we start seeing posts about seating for games at the Convo.... pull out bleachers for better atmosphere. LOL
Re: Convo?
The Convo is great and all but they really need to pull out the bleachers to bring an even better atmosphere.
Re: Convo?
I think they should move the games to the old Eastern Pike gym, really pack them in and create an awesome environment.
Re: Convo?
In the old dungeon elementary school?
Man raiderball has a bad memory from that gym! Eric Caudill killed us.

I know it's early but it can't hurt to ask, does anyone know about clearing the gym in between games? What dates are they planning on doing this?

Re: Convo?
Ive been looking over the schedule and I don't really see any times/games where they can or will ... I'm about 99% sure there will be no instance where the Convo will be cleared ... Once your in - just take a seat - and enjoy the action.
Re: Convo?
That's good!!! I'm looking forward to making atleast a couple trips there. I was thinking in the past they had cleared after district championship games but I could be wrong.

Re: Convo?
They did after the District titles the past couple years if I'm not mistaken. Which is terrible because a day of basketball at the Convo is never a bad thing.

Re: Convo?
^^^There is absolutely NO place like the Convo for these games. Now, put the games in St. Johns, you may have a runner up that's close. The Schott may be a good arena for concerts, but as for basketball atmospheres, it has a lot to be desired.

Re: Convo?
I travel down to the convo (65 miles) for the districts and regionals every year and very rarely go to the fairgrounds or the schott anymore (10 miles away). I never missed the finals when they were at St. John's and went to the Schott every year until last year. The ticket prices continue to go up (I think they've doubled from face of $7.00 to $14.00/$15.00 for club/entry in the last seven years). I'll watch the championship games on TV from now on. The Convo is a hidden gem for high school basketball and I wish the rest of the state could experience it at least once. Plenty of room, parking etc. and without the big city traffic. As old as the barn is, they still empty it and space out the hours at finals time. For those who complain about concession prices in Athens, it's almost double that at the Barn & the Schott.

Re: Convo?
Who's going to be there March 12??That's a great way to spend a day watching all of the SE district finals.
Re: Convo?
The Convo is a great place to watch a game. Parking is easy, lots of room. Locker rooms are also very nice for the players. The Barn is what it is called.
