Nothing will top North Adams in the state semis getting beat by a shot 1/2 seconds after the buzzer.

1996?

NA was undefeated......opponent hit a shot a solid 1/2 second after the buzzer and then I THINK went on to win the State Championship

1996 is correct...actually a local guy all of us know made a documentary about that team last year called "We Know" and they timed it...the ball left his hand aprox. 1.3 seconds after the buzzer.
Miami East went on to win the state title game by double digits

2002 Wheelersburg to Eastern Brown in the Regional Semi-Finals. The Burg was the #1 seed and #1 in the state I believe. Took it on the chin that night.
'Burg actually finished #2 in the polls, we lost game 19 at Gallia by 3 and lost the #1 ranking that we held all but 3 weeks.

Aussie transfer Anthony Johns killed us that night...most unforgettable loss for me in 'burg history.

in 2000, 2001, and 2002, the teams Wheelersburg lost to in tournament play went on to the final four:
2000- Canal Winchester
2001- Belpre
2002- Eastern Brown

I was at this game also, what a screw up, everyone around me was asking if this last shot was really counted ?????

In 1998 Chesapeake lost to Sparta Highland after leading by 5 with about 1:20 left. Sparta got it to 4 with just under a minute and Chris Fizer fouled JT Hoying on a 3 that he hit and then kocked down the free throw. Chesapeake lost in OT and Sparta won state blowing both opponents out.

In 04 Chesapeake had a 3 point attempt by PJ Rase to tie in the regional finals v Bellaire go down then pop back out. Bellaire had Aaron Agnew (6'10, 350) and Nate Davis.

Waverly 75 or 76 undefeated ranked number 1 in the state playing Northwest bottom seed @ Valley 1st rd. Northwest stalls the whole game (Carolina 4 corner) and upsets Waverly, wish i could forget it!

A thread about last-second losses seems tailor-made for a Peebles fan...1973, lost by a bucket to Chesapeake (Dad never has forgiven that town), 1974 beaten out in the regional finals by a bucket (thanks, Charlie Huggins), 1980 beaten by a bucket in the district, 1981 beaten in the district final by a buzzer shot by a non-shooter...there was a similar incident last year, I believe.

As far as sectionals go, our most disappointing loss could have been 1993. We were state ranked, loaded with senior talent, but let it slip away from u--

....you know what? I thought I could talk about this, but I just can't. Not ready yet. Why reopen these wounds, Marroon Shorts?

You know, like I said, I don't think I'm ready for this conversation yet. Maybe in another 18 years....

...but yeah, it was.

Zane Trace--00-01

Went unbeaten in the SVC and were downright dominant. Get to the Convo and Waverly keeps it close all night and ties it with time running out, ZT drives and gets a very favorable foul call with less than a second left and misses both shots. Then gives up the winning shot with about 4 seconds left, a 7 footer misses a 3 at the buzzer when they had 4 better shooting options on the floor at the same time. That was in the district semi's and I doubt that they would've beaten Chesapeake in the next round, but it was still shocking.

Westfall--03-04

Up and down season all year for the Mustangs leading to the 8 seed at Waverly. In one of the more shocking upsets that I've seen at Waverly, they take down the 1 seed Lucasville Valley(4 starters over 6'4, while Westfall had 1 player over 6' and he was 6'3) 57-53. They then run through Belpre before running into #12 ranked Ironton in the District Finals. They were in line for another huge upset when Dennis Gagai(who was about 1-10) was fouled on a 3 with less than a second left. Gagai knocked down 2 of 3 to send it to overtime, where Westfall had a wide open layup, down 1 with about 10 seconds left that they missed. 2 Ironton FT's later and a missed 3 for Westfall and it was a heartbreak for them.

The 1988 Eastern(Pike) Eagles led by starting 5 Eddie Nance, Bryan Hale, Darren King, Dustten Alley, and Darrell Howard were 23 or 22-0 and I believe #2 in the state rankings were defeated by Southern Tornadoes in the district finals(if my memory correct). Had several other outstanding players coming off the bench. Eric Merideth, Pete Keller, Rex Leist, Justin McBee just to name a few. The Tornadoes were led by future Eagles head coach Jeff Caldwell. One of seopreps regular posters was also senior on that team. I was in third grade at the time and was a crushing loss to me as many of these players were my heros.
