Everyone on the Marietta bench should have known who was getting the ball, AC that's who and they still couldn't defend him. Time after time when it comes down to it AC is getting the ball and also a good night for Grant also, keep it up boys and on to the Convo, GO BLUE!

Yeah, I bet the Marietta players and coaches didn't know a thing about AC! They held him in check at least for one half..better than most teams can do.

Hastie made the biggest shot of the game, a trey to tie it with 52 sec left in regulation. Warren's pressure defense was the story of the game. Sewell played the best game of his life.

... great game at Jim Myers Gymnasium tonight as Warren battled to get the Hat Trick vs Marietta in the 2010-11 season ... the Tigers of Coach Secrest had THE game plan that many have tried/many more will try vs the Warriors of Coach Maddox - run a zone on the defensive end forcing WHS to beat them from the perimeter ... great game plan when your opponent is anemic from downtown and the inside game has no answer for the defensive presence of 6-11 Jon Sewell ... Marietta controlled both ends of the floor frustrating the Warren inside bigs ( Venham/Winland) and anything getting into the paint (Cunningham) for the first 2 quarters - Warren starters were held to 3 points in quarters 1 & 2 combined (Venham 3 points) ... Austin Cunningham was held scoreless for the 1st half of play while Marietta appeared quicker getting scoring from the perimeter (Kreichbaum 7 pts/Riley 6 pts/Grosel 4 pts) ...Marietta 19 Warren 12 after two quarters ... Coach Maddox needs to bottle whatever his intermission pep talk to the troops was - as the Big Bad Blue lived up to their name coming out after the half with great defensive pressure forcing 9 Tiger turnovers in the 3rd ... Warren appeared to pick up momentum only to see their own efforts on D undone by some timely or untimely TOs of their own and the offense of Sewell inside (6 points in the 3rd) ... a BIG turning point in the game was the play of Grant Venham inside the paint in the 3rd frame as the Warren big man was able to get to the rim for 6 points AND Cunningham was able to get some needed confidence with a basket & 1 to get him into the game offensively ... Marietta 33 Warren 26 after three ... Big MO now sitting on the Warrior bench - everyone who hit the floor for the Blue was playing tenacious defense - Hastie, Venham, Cunningham, Ward, Knost, Winland, AND Mr. Austin Henthorn ALL contributed to the Marietta "collapse" in the 4th ... Warren defensively harassed Marietta's perimeter players while Venham got around Sewell & Co. for 6 more points in the paint, Hastie picked up a 3 ball while AC added 4 more to his point total... more importantly the Warriors were able to draw even with the Tigers 32-32, 38-38 at the :48 sec mark of the 4th and finally 40-40 at the end of regulation ... MO was now eating popcorn on the Warren bench going into the OT period ... Cunningham/Venham took over on offense while Hastie/Henthorn continued to rattle the Marietta guards ... MHS got big buckets from Sewell down low /Keichbaum knocked down a big 3 pointer to entice big MO BUT AC"money" took matters into his own hands on the offensive end answering with a 3 ball of his own to "see" Kreichbaum's three and "raise" the stakes with a second (back to back NBA distance) three ball ... AC had 12 points in OT/Venham 1 ... senior leadership backed up by junior defensive effort (Hastie/Ward/Henthorn/Knost/Winland) ... Marietta 48 Warren 53 OT final ...

... pfloyd official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Marietta ...

Scoring ... Kreichbaum 18, Riley 11, Sewell 10, Grosel 6, Williams 3

3 pointers ... 4/10 ... Kreichbaum 3, Riley 1

FTs ... 10/18 ... a 5/10 from the line in the third quarter helped begin the Tiger undoing ...

TOs ... 22 - ouch ... down three in OT with the ball an untimely TO with :14 to play ended the Tiger hopes ...

... pfloyd official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Warren ...

Scoring ... Cunningham 19, Venham 17, Hastie 6, Ward 3, Knost 2, Henthorn 2, Winland 2

3 pointers ... 5/19 ... Hastie 2, Cunningham 2, Ward 1

FTs ... 14/21 ... 5/9 in the OT period ...

TOs ... 12

... Best of luck to Coach Maddox & Co. as they get their invitation to Basketball Thirty at the Convo ... a great TEAM effort coming from 9 down on 2 occasions in tonight's matchup ... TEAM stayed together - the Seniors DID what is expected - lead by example while underclassmen followed ... saw a Waverly coaching contingent in the stands tonight along with Waverly players checking out their next opponent ... thank you to both teams for giving us Cheap Seat folks our money's worth ... hopefully the last 2 games I've witnessed the Warriors get "W" in the Survive and Advance season has officially broken the "pfloyd" curse for the Warriors LOL ...

Turnovers and missed free throws lost us the game. Played great defense and executed in the half court offensively for the most part. Really disappointing end of a career for a great group of seniors.

Marietta played a great game tonite. You had a much improved season over last year and should be proud of your accomplishments. Blue, we got threw it. We never gave up. Coach made the adjustments and it worked. As far as the curse goes, I'm skeptical, it might just be at The Warrior Dome. I'm still gonna have to wait and see about that one. Warrior Fans, wouldn't it be nice to sit in a Gym like that (less the Purple) in Barlow, maybe even bid on our own sectional tourny one day?

To the Covo we go!

Great Game Warren and taking us to the Convo another year. One of the bigest change isaw that i thought made the most diffrence in the game is comming out in the second half Madox put in his best five players he got and not the normal starters. I think for the rest of the season He need to be starting Knost and Ward cause they clearly should be in the starting lineup.

What do the Warren boys and Marietta girls teams have in common? They both beat a team the 3rd time to make it to the Convo, both played teams that they had classic close games with in all six of the games. And both teams have killer presses that would have them still in the game should they find themselves down 8 with a minute to go.

Congratulations, Warriors. Tigers, what an effort...holding AC to 6 points in regulation time (ZERO the first half)! How often does that happen to him? Wish I could have been there just to see the look on Momma's face. Just kidding..she surely is an avid fan though! Outstanding effort on the part of Venham to keep the Warriors in the game. Seriously, Warren's game better improve as they advance to the district as they have been flirting with disaster the last 5 games. Someone mentioned that Coach Maddox started his "best 5" the second half..apparently so, but why isn't he starting his best 5 at the beginning of the game? Pfloyd said Waverly contingent was in the crowd, so they got the chance to see what needs to be done. Wishing the best of luck to the Warriors...it would be great to see them face Chilli again. Go SEOAL!

Once again the Marietta coaching staff doesn't help the players stop a comeback. 17 point lead to 1 point win in the last quarter against VC and a seven point lead to a loss. so disapointing but again this just speaks for how good Warren really is and that senior class could outplay marietta's once again

Yeah, the Tigers team/coaches may have had some missed opportunities, but if Warren was really "that good" how did they find themselves in a hole most of the game and the "money man" not scoring until 2nd half? How did they lose 2 games in their last week of regular play? C'mon.,give both teams their due..it was a hellava game!

Congrats to the boys in blue on a gutty performance last night.
It took GUTS to finally make the changes after halftime to make warren dangerous!
The first quarter hole that Warren got itself into was almost the season but the changes at half and the leadership that Mr Cunningham and Mr Venham brought to the floor lastnight and a CLUTCH trey by Mr Hastie after the rough start he had was just that...CLUTCH!
Mr.Ward a rough shooting night as well but your presence on the floor is well needed. The play from Knost and Windland was also needed...just great coaching after the 1st quarter.
Warren even survived the SHOT HEARD ROUND THE COUNTY from Mr Henthorn late in the contest....But the HEART that this kid brings to the floor, and just the pure total game, im sure someone was looking down on him so that it didnt hurt. Keep up the great work! So off to the Convo and see what lies ahead....The sun comes out tmrw! ;-)

Tigerfan, seriously thanks for your concern on the Warriors as they advance to the district. Coach Maddox and his staff know what they have with this team. the Warriors are 19-3, and they play one game at a time, thank you!! DISASTER ALREADY HIT MARIETTA!!!!!

Snowman 70, the Marietta coaching staff were not the ones committing the TURNOVERS in the game. Your coaching staff had a great game plan, your seniors could not get it DONE. The Warrior pressure got to them AGAIN!!!! What about the REBOUNDS on the missed foul shots at the end of the game. Lack of EFFORT on the Tigers and great EFFORT by the WARRIORS. AGAIN not your COACHING STAFF!!!!!

Pfloyd, as always great recap of the game. Ever think about being a sports writer??? 10.7% from the floor in the 1st half and only down 7 points. What did you think?? I did not know what to say, but I knew we were still in the game. Not until the 4th quarter, when they walked on to the floor, I told my son WE ARE GOING TO WIN THIS GAME. Marietta was getting tired and the Warren defense was about to go into 5th gear. The shots started to fall and AC and Grant took over. Great Effort by Knost on the boards!!! Everybody came to play. Good TEAMS find a way to WIN. The Warriors WANTED IT MORE!!!!! SURVIVE and ADVANCE I will see you at the CONVO. 19-3 BOY will I take that!!!
GO TEAM WARREN WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about going over the back on rebounds of missed free throws? The refs let that one go all night for both teams but for Warren when it counted.

Disaster hit Marietta? Hardly, when the #5 seed loses in OT to #1 seed. Why can't some people be good winners even after given the opening to do so?

... Excoach78 ... I was concerned in that 1st half not so much that Warren was down but that they hadn't learned how to attack Sewell ... imo most of the time Venham et al were in position in the paint they should have taken "one more" dribble where they would have a reverse layup/look at the rim using the rim as a protection vs Sewell blocking shots from behind/making him move into them vs just stand ... but as you said only down 7 points having only hitting 3 fgs ... I too knew that the Blue pressure D had not been turned up yet ... the third and fourth quarter Warren D put Marietta on the defense when THEY had the ball ... great onslaught of defensive pressure put on by the entire Warren TEAM in that 2nd half of play ...
