When Marietta gets beat 3 times in a row by Warren its hardly the refs fault. Marietta played to lose when they should have played to win they had a good season but this season will be dictated by not one significant win on their schedule.

That's kinda harsh. There are always gonna be missed calls. If you are on the down side they seem to go the others advantage. I'm gonna tell you. Sewell stepped up a notch or two yesterday. Marietta played a great game. I think you might want to rethink that. All wins are significant.

I just feel as if late into the 4th the tigers coaching staff would had understood their lead was slipping and made some substitutions or time outs to stop warrens rally and help the team gain their composure it would had been different, much like the first Warren game. I know the coaches can't deal with the fouls, turnovers etc. but the pace of game they can and I think that hurt the tigers late.

Marietta will be back next year. IMO we will be even better. It'll be interesting with the new league but I'm glad we still get our rivalry game against Warren.

thanks to the few gracious Warren fans for kind words for the Tiger team and coaching staff. I don't care what some people on here say..the Tigers played one heck of a game. As I said before # 1 seed vs. #5 seed and OT...how can anyone say they played poorly?? Again, thanks, to a couple of you. Good luck @ the Convo Warriors..let's have an all SEOAL District final!

Congrats to the boys in blue on a gutty performance last night.
It took GUTS to finally make the changes after halftime to make warren dangerous!
The first quarter hole that Warren got itself into was almost the season but the changes at half and the leadership that Mr Cunningham and Mr Venham brought to the floor lastnight and a CLUTCH trey by Mr Hastie after the rough start he had was just that...CLUTCH!
Mr.Ward a rough shooting night as well but your presence on the floor is well needed. The play from Knost and Windland was also needed...just great coaching after the 1st quarter.
Warren even survived the SHOT HEARD ROUND THE COUNTY from Mr Henthorn late in the contest....But the HEART that this kid brings to the floor, and just the pure total game, im sure someone was looking down on him so that it didnt hurt. Keep up the great work! So off to the Convo and see what lies ahead....The sun comes out tmrw! ;-)
This is an interesting quote. I've seen you post for the last few weeks about how the coach doesn't play to win and then named four kids you thought should get more playing time. I just took a quick glance...and may have missed one of the names...but did your group shoot like 2-for-20 from the field in this game? And now the coach is playing to win?

Stats from the Marietta Times:

Marietta 13 6 12 9 8 - 48
Warren 7 5 14 14 13 - 53

MARIETTA (15-7): Jon Sewell 5-10 0-0 10; Wes Riley 4-10 2-6 11; Nathan Williams 1-6 1-2 3; Cody Kriechbaum 5-9 5-6 18; Tim Grosel 2-4 2-4 6; Braden Riley 0-0 0-0 0; Eli Lenington 0-0 0-0 0; Connor Hess 0-0 0-0 0. Team 17-39 10-18 53. 3pt goals 4 (Kriechbaum 3, Riley 1).

WARREN (19-3): Dylan Leffingwell 0-0 0-0 0; Grant Venham 8-21 3-9 19; Justin Hilverding 0-0 0-0 0; Jeremy Hastie 2-6 0-0 6; Austin Cunningham 5-16 7-8 19; Tyler Ward 1-8 0-0 3; Jace Knost 0-7 2-2 2; Josh Windland 1-7 0-0 2; Austin Henthorn 0-2 2-2 2; Evan French 0-2 0-0 0. Team 17-69 14-21 53. 3pt goals 5 (Hastie 2, Cunningham 2, Ward 1).

Team stats:

Marietta: Shooting 17-39 (44 percent); 3pt shooting 4-10 (40 percent); Rebounds 30 (Williams 11, Sewell 10); Assists 6 (Kriechbaum 2); Steals 5 (Williams 2); Turnovers 26; Blocks 6 (Sewell 4, Williams 2); Total fouls 17

Warren: Shooting 17-69 (24 percent); 3pt shooting 5-18 (28 percent); Rebounds 29 (Knost 9, Venham 7); Assists 9 (Cunningham 6); Steals 13 (Venham 5, Cunningham 5); Turnovers 12; Blocks 2 (Venham 1, Knost 1); Total fouls 15.

I'm having a hard time understanding how Warren took 30 more shots from the field than Marietta. Even though Warren had the edge in turnovers by 14, Marietta had one more rebound, and 3 less free throws. That doesn't seem to translate to 30 more shots for Warren!

Enigmaax: I said alot in the last few weeks, so I'm gonna tackle this.
1. Nobody ever said anything about playing time. Coach Maddox does a great job at getting NINE players into the game on any given night.

2. Yep 2 - 20 is close. Do you realize that the four have the best free throw averages on the Team. All above 70%. Two for Twenty, and we won! We must know something you don't know.

3. Did you see the Third Quarter of the game?

4. Have you ever watched them play? Ever?

Coach Maddox played to win, and win we did. We beat a team that didn't want to be beaten. Not the first time, when the four went slightly better than two for twenty, not the second time when the four scored, rebounded, stole the ball, and altered shots. On Saturday the four became NINE, and thats what matters, not 5, not 4 9, and that 9, became ONE. THAT'S PLAYING TO WIN!

Somebody did say something about playing time. And somebody has talked and talked over the last few weeks about how the coach doesn't "play to win" and directly attributed that to not playing the "strongest" players. I'm trying to understand the point of view that says a coach who has a team at 19-3 right now doesn't play the right players and doesn't play to win. And then, the other poster happened to mention the four specific players he thought should play more...so I was curious to see how they did. Shooting isn't everything, but 10% from the field isn't a great night, obviously. So, again, I'm trying to understand the difference between what the coach has done so wrong all season in 18 wins and what he did so right in one win against a team you've already beaten twice as it relates to playing his personnel.

Please note, I didn't say you or the other poster were right or wrong. Trying to get to some substance, thats all.

Warren was getting 4+ shots per possession at the end, and they took advantage of the opportunities from turnovers and got many shots from those, Marietta didn't really make much transition offense from their turnovers, and obviously from their shooting percentage, they didn't need to take that many shots.

But for the most part, each possession has to end with either a shot, a rebound, or a turnover. If Warren was getting a lot of offensive rebounds for those additional shots, that should be reflected in the rebound number - which shows Marietta outrebounding them. The math does seem a bit odd because there's such a huge discrepancy in shots. One thing I noticed is that just based on shots from the field, there were 74 missed shots and only 59 recorded rebounds. Seems like Warren probably had more rebounds than what was recorded.

To help out Warren had 33 total boards with 20 of them being on the offensive end and Marietta had 31 total and 6 offensive. The other 10 were probably contributed to a team rebound or turnover. Also checked out the turnover totals Warren's stats showed 29 for Marietta and 15 for Warren.

Thanks! I'm wondering if the Warren stats also show a 30 shot differential from the field?

30 shot diff -14 TO -2 reb = 14 shot differential

There were 10 trips to the line for Warren that weren't the "and one" after a made FG and 9 trips by Marietta. That would get it back to a 15 shot unaccounted for difference. Then if you said Warren had the first and last possession in each of the 5 periods, that would get it down to still a 10 shot differential. So I am still miffed at the gross FG attempt differential of 30!

Warren 17-68 Marietta 17-39 which equals a 29 shot difference, also a blocked shot that goes out of bounds equates into a team rebound or non turnover however you want to interpret it. Just know the team gets a second chance to score, so in some instances Warren got a couple shots in a row without a rebound or a turnover.

That's a good thought about blocked shots going OB. So if all six of Marietta's blocks went OB, and Warren had an extra possession in each period, both of which are highly unlikely, that would get it down to 4 unaccounted on the shot differential. Maybe Warren had a tremendous advantage in team rebounds when a rebound went out of bounds and was ruled Warren's possession. I sure would like to review a video replay of the game!
