NOT THAT IT MATTERS ?

Post by FANOSPORTS »

DIII, being played at Athens HS. Even though they are in separate sectional/district brackets, why wouldn't you play the Meigs-NY game @ 6:15 on friday night before you play the Wellston-River Valley game which is scheduled for 8:30 ? The Meigs game is scheduled for saturday afternoon @ 3:00. Most of the other venues at this level (sectional) have two games back to back for one price if the fans want to watch both. Is it because of the different brackets (district) they're in that they chose to do it this way ?

All of the Sectional Finals are split-sessions at all locations this year. The only back to back games were for the Semi's.

I hate that they do it this way, but as many people know, there are many, many rude people who won't give up their seats for the people in the 2nd game, so I don't really blame the district too much for doing it this way. Plus, it makes them a good bit more money, which is the real issue to many people.

Are you 100% sure on this? If so, then the Chesapeake/Minford game at Jackson, which is before the Burg/Valley game, is seperate and they will clear the gym after the first game? I guess no sense in showing up early then to watch the first game. What a crock. Is this something new? We have always went early and watched both games for years.

The games are at least 2 1/2 hours apart, so I'm assuming that they are split sessions. Every year since 2004 is listed at these same times. It's ridiculous and especially at Jackson(if they still charge for parking) but you may want to call Jackson just in case to see if it's a S/S.

The games at Jackson on Friday aren't that far apart. I think the first game is at 6:15 and the second is at 7:45 or 8:00.

You didn't last year. They cleared the gym after Burg upset Oak Hill last year. You had to pay again to watch Valley upset Portsmouth.

I went to Jackson last year and got there early enough to catch the end of the Burg game, but they wouldn't let you in. I was lucky to be able to see the floor from where I was, and got to see the action. As said above, they made everyone exit stage left, walk outside in the blizzard and come back in behind the crowd waiting in the lobby to get into the Portsmouth game. I think they also charged for parking, but can't swear to that.

Please remember - The district Athletic Board is just following rules set down by the OHSAA Boarc of Control. They are also started this when several schools that host the tournaments knowing that some schools have big followings and if they did not clear the gym after the first game or have split sessions the schools would be in voliation of the fire marshall code.

Is not paying to park in violation of the fire marshal code too? Lets tell the truth, " It is all about the money."

I must admit that since I didn't go in time to watch both games, it was nice that with the $5.00 I paid to watch the game I was interested in, it was very convienient that the crowd from the first game was moved out so the people who wanted to watch game 2 could get decent seats. The ones who got hurt by this were the ones who really wanted to watch the second game, but came up for the first. Not only did they have to pay twice, they also lost thier good seats from game one and got lousy seats for game two. Another thing I witnessed was kids being charged $5.00 to get in near the end of the first game, not realizing they had to leave and pay again to get back in.

I didn't make it last year, but the last time I was at Jackson I'm sure we watched more than one game for one ticket. Maybe it wasn't a sectional final.

Is Jackson the only school in the state that charges parking fees, and they only do it because they built their school so there is no other option for parking. That is just sad, Nothing to really be proud of.

Not going because Jackson has ruined the fun of going. They are just milking the system. I am not too worried about paying twice because I have no desire to watch the 30 point drubbing Minford is goona receive from Chesapeake, but paying to park my car is pure robbery. Therefore, I will wait until next weekend to watch the games in Athens, in a nice arena, with great hotdogs, and park my freaking car for free. I know a few people from Burg that are not parents os players, and have chosen to stay home because of the money dropping going on.

Where do you park for free in Athens? The charge to park at the Convo and across the street by the football stadium as well. I guess you could park a mile away and walk....

nope..by the baseball stadium.there is a lot that connects to the grass of the basketball arena around back..parked there for years. Just drive like your going behind the baseball stadium and you can't miss it. Won't cost you a dime!

I park at the hospital and walk over to the Convo...If your willing to walk a bit there are plenty of free places to park in Athens for Districts!

I didn't go to Jackson this year either and won't pay parking there again ever. I know it's only two bucks but it's the principal. Valley doesn't charge to park and they are isoloated. I think the Jacskon parking fee is classless and a black eye on their school. IMO.
