Re: SHL All League Team?
I heard this morning that Blake Justice, Andy Countryman and Trent Arey made the SHL all-league team for the Indians and Josh Arey was named coach of the year. Congrats and good luck at the Convo.

Well, since it looks like other's have heard as well, I hear that Ripley has three members of the All-League team as well-Demarco Washington, Ravye Williams, and Logan Perkins! Go, Blue Jays! Let's take down Clark Montessori tomorrow night at Lemon Monroe! (Lemon Monroe??? Really???)

Re: SHL All League Team?
Anyone have stats for DJ Iles. Im just kinda confused as to how Jake Daniels didnt make the squad averaging 11.1ppg(3rd on the league champion/ranked in the state Peebles team), 7rebs(first on the team), 2.5blks(2nd in the league), and shooting nearly 60% from the field(First on the team...possibly tops in the league).
Im a little biased but I believe this compares pretty favorably with how a few players, both of which made the all-league team, did last season:
Eric Collier-10.6ppg, 7.7reb, .5blks, 60+%FG
Andy Countryman-8.4ppg, 2.8reb, 3.0assists, 39%FG

The Seip kid from Whiteoak could have also very easily made it. He was in double figures. The iles kid was easily Fatettville's best player and deserved to make it. He averaged around 12 ppg I believe and even though he is a freshman seemed to be there team leader. The Daniels kid did have a very nice year, but I would say the main reason he didn't make it was because Peebles already had 3 players selected.

Re: SHL All League Team?
We had four last season. Jordan Mitchell and Austin Fawley could have potentially made it as well. I agree Iles may have been their best player.....but his team still only had one win(No players from West Union were mentioned...even though the Grooms kid(who is a senior) had a pretty solid season and was the team's leader).theuglytruth wrote:The Seip kid from Whiteoak could have also very easily made it. true, I guess they have to draw the line somewhere. Players like seip, mitchell, and daniels will make it next year, Im sure they wanted Fayettville to have a representative.

Re: SHL All League Team?
There are probably several reasons as to why Jake didn't make the squad and 1 could be because(as stated previously) Peebles already had 3 players listed. Blake and Andy are definately deserving and you can't knock Trent's play either. Where does he rank as far as assists go? How is the All-League Team chosen? There will always be players that seem to get overlooked (depending on who is involved in the discussion). Jake will have his day especially if the Indians get passed the Burg Sunday and depending on next years team he may be someone who everyone is talking about!TribeManiac10 wrote:Anyone have stats for DJ Iles. I thought the Rolark kid from Fairfield had a strong season - what did his numbers look like this year?

Forgot about him. He was definately in double digits scoring wise. Also Dylan Ricketts/Dalton West from Manchester both had good years.jimmy chipwood wrote:I thought the Rolark kid from Fairfield had a strong season - what did his numbers look like this year?

Re: SHL All League Team?
You have to be nominated by your coach!!! That would be my first question. It seems there were a few others who could make a case statistically but the coaches vote so it is the fairest way to select the team. I know of one situation that played out many years ago and might still happen today. A coach will leave the best (or 1 of the best) players off of their ballot on purpose because he knows that his vote wont keep that player from making All-League. Instead of voting for that best player he will vote for another one of his players. For example: leaving Blake Justice or Blake Blevins off of a ballot and adding one of your own players who you think might need every single vote to make it.
This year the players who should have been on every coaches ballot unanimously were:
Blake Justice
Chris Cox
Blake Blevins
Travis Combs
Andy Countryman
Demarco Washington
Joe Michael
Jordan Payne
Logan Perkins

Re: SHL All League Team?
Every kid is not going to make it that is just how it is. Some players stand out every game and are noticed all of the time, some are shadowed by others. There will be several that aren't on this list that will shine all of next year. I do see were you are coming from about jake he does play a big part and im sure his name was mentioned, but it would be hard to get four everytime and there are big men on that list that over shadow him. Hopefully he builds off this and helps make a run for the state.

Re: SHL All League Team?
I still believe he was the third best post player in the league this season. I think room could have been made considering the 15 spots available.hangman wrote:Every kid is not going to make it that is just how it is. If my say actually meant something in deciding these teams:
1. Blake Justice
-Senior leader of the league champion/AP ranked 9th in the state Peebles Indians
-27pts,6rebs,4assists,and 4stls a game during the regular season
-Ohiohshoops.com's Southeast district player of the year(regardless of division)
-IMO a D3 first team all-ohio/POY candidate
2. Blake Blevins
-His versatility was a major factor behind the greyhounds' success this season
-Has averaged 17.5pts, 11.6rebs, and 2.9blks a game so far this season
-Could make it two apperances in a row for him as a first team all-ohioian.
3. Chris Cox
-His return from injury helped transform Fairfield from a lower level SHL team into district title contender.
-Not sure on exact statistics...I assume they would be close to what Blevins has put up
-Will be all-state but not sure at which level due to time out, team's record, etc.
4. Demarco Washington
-Senior leader of the SHL big division champions
-Averaged 14ppg and 6.6rpg this season
5. Jordan Payne
-Only a junior but still provides the leadership for a fairly young Eastern Brown squad.
-No stats available
6. Joe Micheal
-Provided the majority of the defensive intensity which has carried Whiteoak all season long.
7. Travis Combs
-Excellent compliment to Blevins on offense.
-Has averaged 19.1ppg, 3apg, and 6rpg up to this point in the season.
-I assume he will be first team all-district and either honorable or special mention all state.
8. Andy Countryman
-Combs to Blevins is much like Countryman is to Justice.
-Has averaged 16.7pts, 3.9assists, 4.5rebs, and 2.4stls per game so far this year.
9. Jake Daniels
-Has been the anchor of the Peebles frontcourt all season.
-Has averaged 11.1pts, 7rebs, 2.4blks up to this point.
10. Logan Perkins
-Has had a very similiar impact to his team as Daniels had to his.
-Has averaged 13.7pts, 7.7rebs, 1.2blks in the games he has played this year
11. Chase Lawson
-He and Arey are probably the top two sophs in the league
-No stats available
12. Cameron Rolark
-Deadly second scoring option for Fairfield
-Put up 43pts against Adena earlier in the season(11 threes)
13. Trent Arey
-*See Lawson
-Has averaged 6.4pts, 7.7assists, 4.6rebs, and 2.6stls a game for the Indians this year.
14. Drew Dollich
-North Adams was a MUCH better team with their senior leader back in the lineup this year
-No stats
15. Dylan Noll
-He and fellow senior Austin Fawley led the Mustangs to a second place finish in the SHL big division
-Averaged 12.8pts and 7.4rebs a game for Lynchburg this season.
