I would have gone with Marietta's coach--Chillicothe had the talent and it didn't take too much to have that team win.
Marietta was a complete surprise.

Congratulations to Coach Kellough and Jalen Ragland on their honors.......and I'm glad to see that our coach Eugene Collins got honored also........he deserves it........his career record right now stands at 29-11......17-4 this year........this after he inherited a program that just completed the WORST decade in school history, going 100-121, which was also the ONLY losing decade in PHS history.

Also congratulations to Dion McKinley, Wayne Evans, and Andrew Bendolph for making 1st team.......and to Tre Underwood for honorable mention.

I would also like to second the mention of J.D.Secrest of Marietta.......he did a very good job with a team that was indeed the surprise of the SEOAL.

noreply66,

You do great work and I appreciate all you do with league records, standings, etc, (in all the sports) however, I have noticed over the past few weeks a few threads in which you jumped in and made clear statements in terms of rooting against Chillicothe. While, I think Marietta deserves some recognition, what they did was not a complete surprise to me. Yet, it is assumed that Chillicothe was "supposed to win". We lost a 1st team All District player, yet we reloaded.

Facts: Marietta held serve in all the games the were supposed to win and won a few on the road that they probably were not expected. to.

Fact: Chillicothe held serve in all their home games and lost one league game to the team that might be playing the best in the Southern Ohio right now.

Fact: Chillicothe won the league title with one loss, and the Coaching staff should be rewarded. Not that they need the recognition, but it is what it is.

Finally, it would be nice to at least congratulate those that won awards before adding in your opinion.

GO CAVS!!!

Not just high school for me but college, pro's, etc. they all do it, in all sports. I'm with "noreply66" in that I believe a coach of the year should be someone who actually had to "coach" to overcome a lot of odds to make his/her team competitive and or winners in the said year of the award. When a team does a complete turnaround or has major upside from one year to the next (whether they become the champs or not) they (players / coaches) should be rewarded accordingly. It cracks me up, especially in the NFL or NBA when these coaches get coach of the year and in 2 or 3 years they are fired or go elsewhere. In the high school or college ranks you have different teams every year with graduations, etc. and usually the better teams just reload and get all the conference accolades and when a "new" team arises or comes on the scene it may take years to get the rewards for doing as well (Boise St, TCU in football for instance or Gonzaga, Butler in basketball) as the teams, players, and coaches seem to have to prove themselves over and over again before someone will even take a look at them at award time. I guess my whole point after all this ranting is to be fair to the player's and coaches that merit it "this year" and have over achieved from pre-season expectations, injuries or prior season record's, wins etc. and not just give the awards to teams that reload, recruit or stay at or near the top of any sport, in any league every year, sometimes for decades. From the SEOAL perspective, Chillicothe and Portsmouth were predicted by most to win (with what everyone knew was coming up or coming back) and be very good this year and Marietta wasn't, therefore my vote would go to Coach Secrest. JMO and I'll get off the bandbox now. :)

... congratulations to Coach Kellough, Coach Collins Co-coaches of the year in the SEOAL - very deserving pair of courtside "teachers" of the game ... Jalen Ragland as POY? more than deserving - I had the pleasure to witness the Ragland 15 point outburst in taking over the game vs Warren in that 3rd quarter at the Warrior Dome as well as THE SHOT heard around the SEOAL with 5 sec to play that won that game AND the league championship for the Cavs ... the kid IS a player - Congratulations Jalen Ragland from the committee of one - me ...
