This poll is put up annually so it is based on a players overall stats for that yr. So, in comparison for the publics view, why don't they post the players stats that actually made the list? That would even show and seperate the POYs and why and how of they were selected.

That make us even. I have been confused about your posts all this and most of last year.
From the looks of your spelling each post; it probably wouldn't take much to confuse you, you poor thing you.....aawww.
I didn't know that you were a Teacher as well as Coach/Basketball expert. I am watching the paper everyday to see when you are hired at Shawnee to be their Coach since you know so much about everything. But you are in for a rude awakening if you do and say the things you have on here to any College Coach. I wish him/her all the luck in the World. He/she are going to need it concerning you and your attitude.

It is a shame that you haven't realized that by your comments on here you have turned people off from supporting Nikki. It is not because she isn't a awesome player, she really is a great player and fun to watch, but it is you. I understand she is your daughter and it is only right to stand up for her. But time and time again you have posted comments on here saying harsh and unjust comments about the other players on her own team as well the Coach. Then you have an excuse for everything. If you lost a game you were very quick to point out the mistakes of the other players. You may have been right, but to do that to the other players is just wrong and hurtfull. You were never a team supporter. You were only concerned how many points and the performance of one player, you own, and the heck with anyone else. Nikki skills and playing ability speaks for itself.

Again as far as my spelling. I do apologise for that, my English teacher would not be happy. For your future reference, there is no "I" in Team. Good luck to your daughter. I really hope she scores 30 points a game and pulls down 20 rebounds a game. But I know if they lose, it will be because of the poor play of the other players.

Congrats to all the girls this year that played Girls Basketball. All of you who played from the Freshman to the Seniors on all the area teams. With all of your hard work and play, you have taken Girls Basketball to new heights. In the past I can remember when a lot of Schools did not even have Girls Basketball. All of you young Women have done an Outstanding job of Repersenting you School. Thanks to you all, you all made my first place team.

Congrats to Erica Dawson on her 3rd Team All-Ohio Division II selection and to Maegan Grosel on her Honorable Mention All-Ohio Division II selection. You represeted Marietta and the SEOAL very well this year.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I'll get to my question. Having watched the Lady Oaks, both near and from afar, and reading this website from time to time this thread is the first I have felt compelled to ask a question about. Looking over both the AP All- Southeast District and the All District 13 Team Polls I was surprised to see that they differed quite a bit. Would not the same best players from AP All-Southeast poll still be the best players when the District 13 Poll was conducted? I will name just a few of the glaring differences although I am sure there are countless more. For instance a player that placed on third team (All District Team) is nowhere to be found on the District 13 Poll. And not to mention our player of the year (All District) is only good enough for the Second Team (District 13 Poll)?? I, like countless others, are miffed that there could be so much variance between the two polls. Could the problem lie with the voting process? Or is it that the attributes of the players are valued differently from one poll to the next? How about the good old fashioned problem called nepotism? Whatever the case may be I hope it gets sorted out before next year and deserving girls are not omitted.
Best of luck to the Lady Oaks! Bring home a victory to Oak Hill from the Schott! :-D We believe!
A lot of times, unfortunately, the coach's all district is based on points and loyalty to their team and teams you are familiar with. Here is how it works, let's say a coach gets 8 votes. Whoever he "thinks" is the best gets 8 points, then next will get 7 and so on all the way down to 1 point. The girls with the most points fill up first team then on to second and then finally special mention. A difference between coaches and AP is that a lot less girls are selected for these honors. What could happen is that your coach my vote for you near top of his list but other coaches not even vote for them because they have their players that they want to get in there and also their conference players.
If you look at district 13 it is very skewed to the River teams, such as Fairland, Chesapeake, Ironton, Rock Hill, River Valley. It would have been hard to get the majority of these teams to put 4 or 5 Oak Hill girls on their list, knowing that other teams might not have their girls on their list at all. So they might put their player as the number 8 so that she is getting more points.
If you look at the list, Lakin's name was first on the second team, which usually means that she was the highest vote getter in that section. Mikie should definitely be on there too, but it all comes down to how the other coaches place their players.
But you look at the District 13 list and tell me that Oak Hill's top 5 aren't better than some of those players. I guess we can't have it all though.
MOF, Thank you for the run down. It's easy to see, myself included, why people become confused when it comes to the polls. Personally when it comes to polls such as the AP and District 13 player statistics, in their entirety, should be used to determine placements on 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams. Leaving a poll open to subjectivity causes people to speculate as to some coach's motives. People will wonder is the coach voting for those players because they are the most deserving or is it because he works with one of their parents, or feels because they are a senior and deserve it, or doesn't want their family to get infuriated with them if they don't vote for a certain player? Being an Oak fan for many, many years now I had never really put that much thought about how players are selected. Polls of the past while having little missteps pretty much summed up the best. This year I thought with the District 13 Poll something was amiss. And if I thought this, surely my peers were questioning this as well.

Go Lady Oaks!
