Re: Aleternate routes to the Convo.?
With Rt 93 and Route 140 more than likely experiencing high water people may be forced to take Rt 23 north and pick up Rt 32 east at Piketon. I know a guy at work got a $150 ticket today for going around the high water sign at Hanging Rock on Rt 650 so I wouldn't drive around a barrier. He said the water was only a few inches deep, but the Hanging Rock cop was setting just past the underpass and pulled him over and the bragged about getting a ton of people doing the same thing. What an a$$!!!
People from Chesapeake and Ironton could probably take Rt 7 up to Rt 33 and go in that way.

Usually it's the Hanging Rock speed trap, I guess they've broadened their horizons. Will be heading up 7 and 33 Saturday.

If the Ohio crests at levels I heard on evening news even route 7 will have water over the road this weekend.

might have to go up the WV side (rt.2), and then cross over to rt.7 or does it get over rt. 7 above gallipolis?

In the event that it would (but it probably won't), you could go farther up Rt. 2 thru Point Pleasant up to Mason and turn on the new bridge where Wahama high school sits and go into Pomeroy and up Rt. 33. There are all kind of ways to go.

Route 7 floods often just above the Robert C. Byrd dam. 7 to 33 may not be an option, depending on the river's crest.

The water will usually go over the road right before you get to Kyger Creek and Gavin power plants. For you Chesapeake folk, that is where you would turn off to get to the old River Valley High School.Just My Opinion wrote:might have to go up the WV side (rt.2), and then cross over to rt.7 or does it get over rt. 7 above gallipolis?

If the river doesn't crest until Sunday, we are in for a long 3 days. Water is suppost to rise up to 52 feet if not higher at the Robert C Byrd Locks near Gallipolis, flood stage is 50 feet.gahs4ever wrote:River is not supposed to crest until Sunday

Re: Alternate routes to the Convo.?
From internet projections, Route 7 will be under water in spots between the Byrd Locks and Dams and Gallipolis come Saturday at 6 in the morning and not come off of the road until noon Tuesday.
Re: Alternate routes to the Convo.?
Its looking more and more like we all may have to go to Portmouth up 23 to Piketon and then across 32!Geez talk about the long way around the barn!
Re: Alternate routes to the Convo.?
As of right now Rt. 93 is open but need to check again on Sat. morning.

Route 2 will be blocked at Jerrys Run and at Glenwood. I am planning on going to Charleston and take 77 north to Ravenswood and pick up 33 there.
Re: Alternate routes to the Convo.?
earp: Do not go all the way to Portsmouth from Lawrence County! Take 52 just past Wheelersburg to the next exit (South Webster--140). You are only 25 minutes from 93 (and less if you know the road!). You will hit 93 about 3 miles southwest of oak hill. When you hit 93 you are to the flat part of the road and it is an easy trip to Jackson (do not speed through Oak Hill!).
52 to 140 to 93 to 32. From Ironton it should take 1 hour and 45 minutes tops! I live in South Webster and can get to Athens in just a little over an hour.
If you are a little more adventurous----when you get to South Webster take a left at Hanes Chevy and follow Jackson St all the way to 279---take a left on 279 and in 1.5 miles you are on 139. Take a right on 139 and in 15 minutes you are on 32! This is the way most South Webster people go to Jackson.
52--140---Jackson st---279---139---32.
Much easier than going to Portsmouth and up 23 and over to 32!
