Re: Chillicothe vs. John Glenn...D2 Regional Semifinal
Have not heard of John Glenn or know anything about their team, other than posts above ^^^. I checked out the link with the young man Heagan. Young man looked very good! He can do a little bit of everything. However, I have to agree with dshanton 3. 90% of his buckets Thursday will be hard earned. From the lineup it looks like Chilli will have a significant size advantage down low. 6'4'' JG biggest player?
If Chilli comes out flat like they did last night it could get ugly.
Does anyone know the success and history of the JG program? i.e district, regional, state champs? In recent years of course
Go Cavs!

John Glenn hasn't had much success in the tournaments but they have had a player named Jay Burson that you may have heard of.Rabeanos12 wrote:Have not heard of John Glenn or know anything about their team, other than posts above ^^^. I have seen Jalen play(twice this season actually) & I will stick with my assessment(by the slimmest of margins). Jake is a 6'4(closer to 6'5) guard who will more than hold his own against Jalen on both ends of the court. That video of Jake doesn't include his junior or senior seasons btw. Jake also had numerous D1 opportunities but ultimately settled on Findlay where he will come in and have a chance to start right away.bschmee10 wrote:"Jake is their best player & will be the best player on the floor."---
Have you seen Jalen Ragland play? I will agree Jake is the best on JG but I think you need to watch Jr play before making that assessment. (maybe you have? I hope not after that post) I saw the video on Jake but never in person and yeah he looks smooth but Jalen can get a high percentage shot anytime he wants/drive to the bucket. (He seems to kind of go with the flow a little too much for me i'd like to see him take charge more by driving which is simple if he wants to). I don't think anyone's outshooting Jalen. He's going D1 UTEP for a reason not a fluke. I've seen about 7 games from the cavs. It was towards the end of a regular season game at home where Jalen had 3 or 4 dunks and most if not all were in traffic. He just came out of nowhere and floated through the air with ease. Not saying dunking the ball makes you the best player on the court but like I said wait till you make your assessments. His shot is too smooth and when you play a foot above the rim not many kids in SEO can compare. 6"6 lengthy very athletic on both ends im going with Jalen. Just my uneducated opinion though.
Just to clear my statements up, I'm not stating John Glenn will win(obviously, i'm gonna root for my local team) but if Zanesville & John Glenn don't make it to State I'll definitely be rooting for the Cavs but, imo it will be close. Also, someone needs to be in here stirring stuff up

Saying Jake is the best player on the court is not a far fetch and is a respectable opinion. Don't know the young man and have not seen him play. As a Chilli fan however, I have seen Jalen play many times. I saw him score 4 points?, against Gahanna Lincoln. And 11 against Logan Elm?( Estimates, I can remember both exactly). I also saw im have 18 points with 2 minutes to go in the 1st quarter against Hamilton Township I believe. Fact is, Jalen CAN BE amazing! When the young man is hot, the opponent is in deeeep trouble! On the other hand, when hes cold, hes freezer burnt! He does not handle pressure well, and can struggle creating his own shot. I am surprised there are not more sets for him to get open. It seems most his points come off his sheer athleticism and not coming of screens, sets, isolation etc.
Since JG has not had much success in the tourney as of late, I will take my CAVS in an OT thriller! As I have said all year, these kids were bread with success. They were Freshmen when we won State, and as 8th graders saw us go to the regional finals. They expect to win I believe.
GO CAVS!

I think both are great players, I have seen both numerous times the past few seasons. Jalen tends to go away against physical defenders (bowman academy being the most obvious). Jake is very good, Jalen will have a better supporting cast. I think JG is a better coached team, IMO. This game will be tough, the Cavs are the favorite but I think JG has a legit chance but will need a few guys to step up and help Jake. Also, everyone keeps saying Jalen is committed to UTEP but I checked their site and Max preps, both have them as only having two commits for next year and both are out of Texas. Where do we find the info on Jalen? I wish OU would have taken a chance on both he and Jake. Also hope they offer London this year.

Re: Chillicothe vs. John Glenn...D2 Regional Semifinal
Jalen already signed a letter of commit before the season started. Coach Floyd is estatic to get him and Jalen was his first recruit. Its a fact and I wish him the best of luck in the future. Chillicothe is coached by Gary Kellough. Coach K has over 400 wins, several District Titles, regional and a state championship.. What is John Glenns coach resume? I think Chillicothe has more overall talent and are better coached but anything can happen in the tournaments.newlex/sheridan wrote:I think both are great players, I have seen both numerous times the past few seasons. Coach Greg Woodard is a very good coach but his firery personality can give him some trouble at times but it is usually a nice advantage for him and his team. He has been coaching for a while(10 or so years at JG) & is not new to this. He won't lose this game and I highly doubt the coaching is gonna be the deciding factor in this game. John Glenn will run multiple sets & like to back cut a lot. They use the dribble to creat opportunities for teammates rather than themselves.

Re: Chillicothe vs. John Glenn...D2 Regional Semifinal
Looking at the video the young man can play, seems to have a high motor, and can do just about everything, with that being said Jalen imo is the best in the seo when he plays up to his potential, however he does not always do so,there is no defense that should keep him to just 4 points but far to often he settles, not always but to often, he can shoot a pure jump shot right in your face from 22ft with the greatest of ease, this is crunch time and if he doesnt turn it up JG can and will knock them out of the tourney.GO CAVS AND GOOD LUCK.

People will have their opinions on Coach Kellough(theres only one Coach K)...but listen this guy has built Chillicothe into a powerhouse in 6 years. He has won 4 district champions in 5 years, and yes people say well is players do all the work well yes he has great players but they are prepared for every game they play a tough schedule every year. He is one of the best around and gets the job done at the end of the day and that is all that matters.
Re: Chillicothe vs. John Glenn...D2 Regional Semifinal
Coach Kellough does a nice job down there. I think most people would agree on that. I think the debate comes in where some think some other coaches get more out of less, and they also take into advantage some advantages Chillicothe has over other schools in a mostly rural, spread out district. But it's all conjecture and really doesn't matter that much at the end of the day. What Chillicothe has done over the last five years is impressive. Enjoy the ride in the tournament.

Re: Chillicothe vs. John Glenn...D2 Regional Semifinal
While Chilli did beat Warren. It was kinda lackluster by both teams. Did not appear to be defense shutting each other down, both got looks, neither team could hit their butt with both hands in the first half (nerves maybe, the kids on both teams were playing hard, just couldn't make a shot, even when open) and both coaches should have hadsome issues with the other guys on the floor. That being said Chilli did what needed to be done to win and at this point that is all you need do. Al Davis of the Raiders said it best; "Just Win Baby." As far as the next opponent I would hope that their staff is preparing for a undefeated team. Because begining with sectionals everybody was 0-0.now everyone left has no losses in the new season. All the rest of the year is just a buildup to this part of the season. Will be rooting for the Cavs to go on. But they had better not start off like last friday, of hope someone took the lid off the bucket. They deserve to be where they are they won, period. But so did the Muskies, so they are a deserving team as well and should be given the respest that has been earned.
Good Luck to the Cavs, don't leave anything on the floor friday, play your best. Come out firing on all cylinders, get Southeast Ohio Basketball to the big dance.

Re: Chillicothe vs. John Glenn...D2 Regional Semifinal
If my memory serves me correct let me try and state the last 6 years from Coach Kellough's teams.bman wrote:Coach Kellough does a nice job down there. I think most people would agree on that. Year 1. Starts 2 frosh and 2 soph and a junior.. Builds team and battles all teams in OCC including wins over dublin scioto twice, westerville central twice and league champion grove city which no one beat that yr but the cavs.
Year 2. Wins the SEOAL with a perfect 13-0 and loses in regional final in only 2nd yr. beat num 1 team in state.
Year 3. Wins State Title beating several teams ranked number 1 in state.
Year 4. Wins league, sectional, district title after losing 90 percent of previous yr offense.
Year 5. Grabs 2nd place in Seoal.
Year 6. Wins league, sectional, district title and still playing in regional tournament.
Previous years at ZT he won nearly 300 games (spread out district) with some but not much talent year after year and I believe only had 2 losing seasons. In these years the SVC was a competive league from top to bottom imo.
It doesn't surprise me this debate comes from a logan elm or pickaway county person. With all due respect we know he gets the most out of his players. People just see talent on some of his chillicothe teams and think he doesn't deserve the credit. I disagree but at the end of the day it really doesn't matter. We have several good coaches in this district and i think they all deserve credit for working with these young kids daily. I believe thats what it is really all about.
Re: Chillicothe vs. John Glenn...D2 Regional Semifinal
Im hoping Coach K is still around when lil bv and his brother gets to the Varsity level(6th and 4th grade)...plus the talent is endless 8th grade down.
