if cookies and milk can make that happen, ill bake them before every game!!!

Talking about a football score from 2009, I don't get it??

The only score that has any meaning to this game is Dec. 23 @ Portsmouth 64 Wheelersburg 56

Oh by the way, in case you are still living in football land from 2009, Portsmouth beat wheelersburg without 1st team All-District player Andrew Bendolph.

Of course Portsmouth is going to win. Like TrojanBuff keeps pointing out on another thread, the Trojans did just knock off that powerhouse and #1 seed Fairland by 20.

Good luck to both teams and may the better team prevail. I just hope it's an injury free game so the winner can continue on and represent Scioto county well. Unfortunately a prior engagment with my son is going to keep me from being there, but family comes first. I will be screaming at the radio though while trying to make heads or tails of what Roger Gray is saying. lol

I remember a Burg team back in 1984 that alot of people didn't give a snowballs chance in hades of beating the Trojans in the District finals and boy were they wrong.

I believe if you ask any true Trojan fan, that has to be in the top five of the worst losses by them as that Trojan team already had hotel reservations made for Columbus and they just forgot one thing and that was to beat the Burg.

Burg will come to play and like I've said before, everytime a Burg player steps onto a court or a field, they expect to win. Doesn't mean they always will, but they always expect it. Not being cocky or arrogant, it is just something that is enstilled in every player that puts on a uniform for the Burg. If you beleive you can win, your chances are greater at doing just that. If you go into a game thinking that you don't have a chance of winning, you probably won't.

Burg believes they can win this game.

Chesapeake has to get by a very good Garaway team first before they can get to the finals. Garaway will slow the game way down and keep it in the high 30's to low 40's and that may just frustrate the Panthers enough to get them out of sync. I think Peake may be the best of the 4 teams in the Athens regional, but that doesn't give them the automatic win.

Point taken have not seen Garaway just going by what I have seen and heard and Peake is getting all the buzz.

the Trojan have played in Columbus a couple times,,and if you know anyting about booking a motel for 15 to 20 peaople you have to plan ahead,,,only thing that was lost was their deposit,,its just a chance you take.....I agree with you though, this burg team is way to much for the men of Troy

What happened to our "cookies and milk" boy?

Apparently he couldn't get anybody to bite on the "old days" in football and give him ANOTHER chance to brag on how great he was back when, so he left.
I saw in another post where he was suggesting that maybe he should have played basketball, too, and perhaps they could have beat some certain team that they lost to.
Come to think of it, maybe he should have since he is built more like a basketball than a football. :aaaaa14 :aaaaa8
I'm still here.

Undefeated against Wheelersburg in Junior High and High School while at Portsmouth.

I knew you'd get it in there one way or another. Narcissists have a way of doing that come hell or high water.

Recent success or not, Portsmouth is the higher seed, # 10 in the final AP Poll and won the earlier matchup in the season. Portsmouth is the favorite in this game and Burg is the underdog. Nobody (outside of Wheelersburg) expected Burg to make it past Peebles or Ironton. In some of the earlier threads about what team would make it to state from SEO, the Trojan faithful were expecting big things, but now they are all of a sudden underdogs?

I think that everyone who has been around sports around here knows that you can forget seeds and throw away the AP rankings, It Burg VS Ports, a big rivalry game with lots on the line. Two teams just a few miles apart playing for reg championship. It doesnt get no better than that.
GO TROJANS.

I don't think he lost to the Burg. The only other times they have met in the Convo were in 83 and 84. 83 I think was Gene's Senior year and the Trojans won that game in OT.

Wheelersburg is playing their best basketball of the season right now. Several players have stepped up in the tournament with much needed points and rebounds. Ward, Miller, Ballard, Schankweiler, McBee and Massie have all played very well in the tournament to help Stegman lead the team. With the close tournament games they have won, they seem to be coming together and playing great team ball right now. With Coach Barrick in control, they are tough to beat, especially in a close game.

GO PIRATES!

Trojans do not have big game experience in the tournament, therefore should be considered the underdog. They have struggled tremendously in the sectionals, while Burg has logged the miles on rt 32 for years. Barrick has been there before, big factor..

I must disagree with you on team chemistry. Trojans have excellent team chemistry, a huge reason they have been so successful this year..

Trojans will pull away late for the victory...

Bunt you seem very confident. If Burg would happen to get past the Trojans, they would have a humongous task in Chesapeake before reaching Columbus. You had better concentrate on the task at hand, a very difficult one at that.

I agree the Trojans do have good team chemistry and maybe Burg has had better big game experience in the tourney, but as for the year that would go to Portsmouth! Chillicothe and Warren twice Ironton and 3 games in Florida were all big games and gave them experience for games like this.

Team chemistry? 19-4......District champions........enough said........they don't have that record on talent alone........and with the schedule they played, chemistry has been a HUGE part of the Trojans' success. Wheelersburg has excellent team chemistry as shown by their tournament performance, but it is no better than the Trojans'.......if the Burg wins the game, it will be because they probably just played better, but not because of better chemistry.

Portsmouth and Wheelersburg have compiled some impressive tourney stats through the years........combined the two schools have 52 district titles......PHS 35, WHS 17........they rank 1-2 in the SE district all-time in that category.........also PHS and WHS have combined for 19 state tournament appearances........PHS 13, WHS 6. Portsmouth's last regional appearance was in 2001, losing to Columbus Briggs 70-69 in the regional final, while Wheelersburg lost to Columbus Bishop Ready 48-46 in 2008 in the semifinals.

The overall series between the two schools stands at 16-15 in favor of Wheelersburg........the Trojans have won the last 3 games after going 2-10 vs. the Pirates the past decade.
