Re: 2011 Marietta Tigers
We thought we were getting Vince Lombardi when we hired ole Jerry Springer. As it turns out, it was closer to hiring Buddy Ryan. All he did was rip on coaches and blame kids for losses. Success was his doing and defeat was always someone else's fault. I feel bad for Marietta based on what he was like here. They will be lucky to field a team in 2012.
Re: 2011 Marietta Tigers
Why hasn't there been an announcement by the Marietta Times? Wasn't he an insurance man in Texas? Where did all the experience as a football coach come from?
Re: 2011 Marietta Tigers
Were you a player, coach, parent? Did your school get rid of him or did he leave on his own? How did the team do while he was there? (Again, these are honest questions - I'm just curious and am not disputing anything you say.)The Ultimate Lancer wrote:We thought we were getting Vince Lombardi when we hired ole Jerry Springer. Re: 2011 Marietta Tigers
Who do the Tigers think they are going to get? They go through this every two years or so and will go through it again. People in Marietta think they are going to get some high profile coach because they are Marietta and it is laughable. The things that people think will happen and reality are two different things. Do you think Tim Hale is coming back? Is Brad Burchfield leaving Hartley to come home to Marietta? Is Bernie Buttrey coming out of retirement to coach the Tigers. No, no and no! Are you going to get an established head coach? The answer to all of that is no. They need to settle with what they get, and unfortunately for the kids, go through this again in two years.

Play your games tigers. Support the head coach for one year or 20. Run with what you have. Give the man a shot, that's the choice made. Talking about the man won't change the choice. Let's get the kids excited to play. It's not about bob or any of us. It's about them. It's there team, there games, and there memories. If bob is not the man the board thinks they will fix the problem. Who knows he may suprize us all!!!
Re: 2011 Marietta Tigers
I follow most of the washington county teams, especially when it comes to football and I can say that I really hold no biases toward any program but Marietta football is just becoming more of a joke every year. I believe this man will be just another disapointing "fly by night" that will ruin atleast 1 year for these young men. Marietta and it's fans deserve more than this and I think as much as I hate to and maybe I'm totally wrong but I believe this is just another case of a coach being hired because of who they are and who they know ..... If an AD did a investigation somewhere else and didn't like what he found, why wasn't that done in this situation and if it was, why was nothing found.? Seems odd to me

Complete stats from Marietta/Warren game.EasternDspy wrote:They need to keep Deeter Baker at TB and let him shine. At the end of the year he was a beast gaining 181 yards vs Warren. It was a joke to have him at TE last year.
Marietta: Rushing: Morgan Wynn 31-240, 4 TDs; Matt McKitrick 12-49; Mitchel Gearhart 5-17; Eli Parmiter 1-0; Anthony Kimbrough 2-(-4)
Deeter Baker is a heck of a football player, and I am not disagreeing with you, but...Just Clarifying.
Re: 2011 Marietta Tigers
Bob Springer is a good guy, he might have done some things that was bad or whatever but it doesn't matter. I don't know one of the kids that don't like him. So if you guys would stop talking bad about people and quit feeling sorry for marietta, would be just dandy. Oh and dedder was more than happy to be helping his team out by playing TE.

Yes is does matter. Springer is a Joke. At Fed. Hock, he escorted out because of his coaching and his mouth. And if Dedder was so happy at TE, then play him there this year. We will see how happy he will be!!! I thought Dedder was going to ST. Marys??????LOLplayer8 wrote:Bob Springer is a good guy, he might have done some things that was bad or whatever but it doesn't matter. I don't know one of the kids that don't like him. Re: 2011 Marietta Tigers
Not true. Bob Springer left FH as head coach due to health reasons. Trust me, I was very close to the program and Springer would still be at FH if he so desired.LoveSponge425 wrote:Yes is does matter. Springer is a Joke. At Fed. He could be exactly what Marietta needs. I guarantee you will have more players on your team this year. He's a great communicator and motivator and he will get the kids out for the team. Obviously he cares about Marietta HS, why else would he take this job?
Re: 2011 Marietta Tigers
... I finally read the Marietta times article about his hiring and it was interesting in that, people on here claim he is controlling of people and 'situations', well the article made the comment about how he would like every athlete at the high school to be involved with the football program...I think that comment is a good indication of the coach he is and will be. No reason for an example such as a girls tennis player or cross country runner, (etc) to be involved with the football team. I'm sorry but when your worst athletic team is the football team, you do not need to claim all athletes should be involved. Some kids may not care, and in less than a year of jumping aboard, he shouldn't try to run the whole ship at MHS.
Just my opinion, thought it was a good example of some things people had previously said

So are you saying he should try to get less athletes involved? I don't want to be accused of putting words in your mouth so perhaps you can explain your opinion?Snowman79 wrote:... Just a couple curious questions:
1. How many kids came out for football last year?
2. Marietta HS was 3-7 last year, what have you got to lose?

Re: 2011 Marietta Tigers
Maybe some insight can be provided on what he did when he was a "special assistant" at MHS before and what he did after the MHS-PHS football game. I don't want to start any rumors but just throwing out some indicators....

Re: 2011 Marietta Tigers
amazing hocks
what exactly did he do after the MHS-PHS game? whatever it was he better be prepared because the "whipping" will more than likely be worse this year at PHS!

Re: 2011 Marietta Tigers
Marietta's last football coach is now at Williamstown High School, West Virginia, which is right across the river from Marietta...
Among the new technology integration specialists is Craig Farnsworth, former head football coach at Marietta High School.
In April, Farnsworth resigned as head coach after only a year at the school, citing a desire to spend more time with his wife. At the time he said the couple likely would be leaving the area.
A 1991 graduate of Parkersburg High School, Farnsworth began his coaching career the following year, serving as a Big Reds defensive coordinator for three years and offensive coordinator in 2001.
