Higly doubt he would apply. He sounded very commited to coaching our boys at a football meeting a not long ago.

I agree 100%, the dedication he put was unparalleled. From being in the weight room everyday to having the players over to his house on saturday...It'll be hard to do.

Speaking of Notre Dame coaches, I wonder if Kyle McKnight has showed any interest in the west job, not trying to start rumors, just curious.

Good question. Was he on any coaching staff last year?

He was basically was ran off...he did take the Greenup job which was his home town, but I always felt the "powers that be" had more to do with him leaving

Someone said maybe Monday on a superintendant. Did they hire one?

How will this affect the coaching search?

I'm sure it will effect it some, but ultimately I'm pretty sure the board decides who the head coach is...I wonder who the new super is?

Coach McKnight is the Defensive Coordinator at Fairview High School in Ashland. Former Marshall standout Nate McPeek is the Head Coach. Fairview Defense led the State in pass defense and in the top 3 in run defense.

siderman wrote:agreed. I like some spread, but not all spread.

A 60-40 run-pass ratio would be about right.

Actually if it was a Portsmouth coach, I would be more concerned with defense than anything. I'm not a fan of the 4-4
Honestly last year I was impressed with our balance compared to years past. Ratliff was 64/91 925 13 td 6 ints. Compared to 09 when he went 26/66 381 3td 2int. We went from throwing the ball around 12% of the time to 16%. And most of the passing yards were accumulated in big games. Hopefully Ratliff will continue to improve his decision making and be the first qb in over 20 years to break 1000 yards passing...

Anyway I do agree with you, I think if we could pass about 30% of the time this would mean we would pass about 15 times a game...we have a lot of talent coming back next year, I just hope whoever gets it takes advantage of the kids strengths.

Ratliff is the best passing Qb that West has had since Brian Howell. Sometimes his mechanics break down a little and he overshoots his receivers, but it would be easily correctible with more work and reps. He would be closer to 1500 yards if they threw it alot.

I think our passing game is hurt by our schedule. Playing those OVC schools, Northwest, Waverly, etc. They have been so bad, that we run it all-over them. Isn't long before your up so big, that passing means running up the score. And it's hard to make yourself do anything but run in a game when your averaging 10 yards a carry.

What I like about next year is we will have 3 qb's that on most teams you would love to have as your starter in Ratliff, Frye, and Morgan. Wouldn't be far fetched to start Ratliff and then put Frye in for some Veer or option to give the D another look.

siderman wrote:There is alot of talent on the team this year. That combined with our schedule almost guarantees a good year this year. What I want to see is long-term success. Whoever gets the job, I want to see continued commitment to building a long term program. West took big steps in with coach T in that regard. Not only with the weight program, but the same basic terminology going down the the pee-wee level. Lets build on that.

I want to see a coach who has direct contact with the coaches and shows interest going down to the pee-wee level all year, not just in the football camp. I think their should be some seminars where the coach can tell them exactly what he wants and expects. Do things to let him speak to the younger kids and be around them. It means alot to them and builds interest in them.

It's just an example, but to me the reason Minford has showed big improvements the last few years is Brent Daniels. I know he's younger and has kids, but you see him everywhere. Doesn't matter if its a basketball game or baseball. He shows interest and helps on all levels in all sports. It make a big diffence.

Thanks for the complement! We are proud of Coach Daniels!

Good point, bryson is probably the second best qb in school history behind howell, even though hall played in the down era of west football, id take levi, and alfie was so much different than levi its hard to compare them...

I think so much of levis improvement was from having shaffer as his qb coach, his mechanics and understanding of the game both improved...

Since we should be close to a decison or an announcement I think its a threee horse race between shaffer, swords, and bricker...I have a feeling that shaffer will get it...just my gut feeling though
