Shaffer will do a good job. I think 7 on7's are a while away siderman. Instuction doesn't start until after school lets out, then it's usually a few weeks after that before 7 on 7's start.

Will Shaffer be running the same O and D West did last year?

Hard to say, I would say there will be som tweaking here and there, but I I think it will be an easy transition

Congrats to new coach! Did he coach at Portsmouth? When? What kind of record did he have there? Just curious.

Heard that Triplett was gonna be helping him..? any truth to this?

I dont understand what good it would do to have the old head coach stick around. Nothing against Triplett, for he has been a very good coach at West over the years.

I just think it would be easier on the players if it were just Shaffer and the assistants from last year.

I am reading between the lines on this move. It seems to me that because of the family health issue, coach Tripplett needs the freedom to be available to his family. I went through this with my mother's disease that eventually took her. It is very difficult to concentrate on your team responsibilities when you have life and death issues hanging over your family. This may have been the best option for all parties-players, coaches, Tripplett's family and the school.

Here's a link to a good article on Shaffer's background. It's a couple years old.

As far as it being a mistake. I can't dissagree more. The guy has alot of energy. He could easily coach another 5-10 years which is the lifespan of most coaches in one place anyway. With him coaching here last year, I would imagine that they'll be little turnover in the assistants.

UPNYA4, You have one thing right. West always has a sideline full of asst. coaches when they have a good team. However a head coach in West Portsmouth needs to pick the ones with actual knowledge and run the others off the field. I don't understand Mr. Cook allowing them to shuffle their way down to the sideline during games anyway. My boys and I always get a kick out of counting the coaching staff early in the season to the end. Hopefully moving down to D V will be a good move.

I think our passing game is hurt by our schedule. Playing those OVC schools, Northwest, Waverly, etc. They have been so bad, that we run it all-over them. Isn't long before your up so big, that passing means running up the score. And it's hard to make yourself do anything but run in a game when your averaging 10 yards a carry.

What I like about next year is we will have 3 qb's that on most teams you would love to have as your starter in Ratliff, Frye, and Morgan. Wouldn't be far fetched to start Ratliff and then put Frye in for some Veer or option to give the D another look.

I donno about that statement...West has had a few really good QB’s with there respective teams if I remember right..... Hall, Williams, and Bricker were just as good.

There has been ALOT of quarterbacks better than Hall.

I was on Mr. Cartoon when I was 8, does that make me a t.v. star? Besides that....he lost. Also did he finish at Northwest? Dont remember his senior year at west.
