Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Eastern, I was checking the schedules on the OHSAA website, and it's has 11 games listed on Fort Frye's schedule. Here's the non-conference games: Fed Hock, Belpre, Waterford, River Valley, Bishop Rosecrans.
Who's not supposed to be in there?

Kids these days look at highschool for a chance to get into some bad things and get a slap on the wrist from the law of the land.. it's a shame to see this.

Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
I'm not going out on a limb here and going to say that Monroe Central is going to be fine, as that is a real stretch at this point. Trenches are the question, on both sides of the ball, and those need to be addressed.
Kinchen hit a bump in the road, but will he be suspended? I doubt it. I am concerned about whether his brother can play this year or not, just depends on how his knee responds. If Tyrone can play, I like MC's chances.
Don't be surprised to see Tyler back at tailback, with Laferty (or Laferre) playing QB. If that comes to fruition, MC will roll. Tyler at tailback again presents a whole boatload of problems for the other PVC teams, that they have no answer for, and I don't give two kicks in the wind about what Kapono has to say about that.

Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
I agree with you I don't think anyone ever doubted that...Laferee might be the leagues best Qb if he starts.
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Caldwell handed MC their only JV loss last season I believe. I don't think that means a whole lot this coming year because MC returns most of its Varsity skill talent, and I've yet to see a true correlation between what JV teams do when they become Varsity. Just mentioning it though.
As a whole, it looks like the PVC is still down a bit.

Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
a jv teams record has no implications on the varsity team the next year , but i feel that individual talent on the jv level can transfer to the varsity level .
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
1. Monroe Central- Not sure if this will be one of "those" MC teams or not. They should be good for sure. But with the lack of another great PVC team you can't knock them from the throne during the preaseason. I don't see this as an unbeatable MC team within the PVC but it would be a big upset if they lost. Last PVC team to beat them was River in '08 making it a 17 game PVC win streak for the Noles. I think they make the playoffs, but I want to see their size/speed in the trenches before I know what their playoff aspirations will be.
2. Fort Frye- I bought Kapono's (eastern) hype last year and thought they did pretty much what he was saying other than the upset against Frontier. They need to start beefing up the OOC schedule because they should again be undefeated going into Woodsfield but with nobody knowing what kind of team they really have. FF needs to be an 8 or 9 game winner this year to show progress.
3. Shenandoah- I like Hurst at QB. He can make plays but I am not sure what else they have coming back. I'm putting them here because Hurst is getting experience and a good playmaker at QB makes for a good team.
4. Caldwell- They could be 3rd or even 2nd, but given the talent they lost I'm putting the Zeps ahead. Also, their OOC schedule is a grind. This could be a 6-4 team and be second in the PVC. But their biggest hurdle is losing a great coach in DeVol which is why I have them in the middle of the pack.
5. River- I think they'll make some strides. The excuse the past couple years is that they were so young. Well, now they should be older and more experienced. They probably don't have the talent to contend for the PVC but will do a little better than the past couple years.
6. Frontier- Graduated a lot. Don't really know what they have coming back, but anticipating that they slip a little. They play a tough schedule as well.
7. Trail- Not sure what to expect other than it probably won't be good.

Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
If Kinchen moves back to RB like Steely mentioned, then the PVC should have their fair share of pretty good RB's. Kinchen, Crum, Rossiter, Snodgrass, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Lang kid from Fort Frye put up some good numbers. I could see three or more 1000 yard rushers on that list.

Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
plenty of running backs but not much in the QB department . basically kinchen , if he is gonna be quarterback, Hurst and Cody Caldwell are the only returning starting QBs from a year ago .
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Looks like the new enrollment numbers are finalized. Here's the PVC breakdown:
Trail 145
MC 141
Fort Frye 128
Shenandoah 127
River 114
Caldwell 106
Frontier 97
120 and over is D5; anything less is D6. Looks like the PVC continues to trend downward. Fort Frye and Shenandoah in particular use to be on the large end of D5 but now they are almost D6. Caldwell is back to D6. Trail seems to swing wildly... they have been a large D5 then down to D6, but now are in the middle of D5. 4 D5's and 3 D6's which is about normal for the league, but no longer any what I would call "large" D5's.
Other notables:
Beallsville 64
Barnesville 120 ... how on earth are the Rocks 1 boy away from D6???? They have always been a larger D5. Shocking.
Bellaire 147 ... never dreamed I would see MC within 6 boys of the proud and mighty Bellaire Big Reds. They just always seemed so big to me for some reason.

Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Bellare is NOT what it used to be. It's lost its magic. No one wants to move into that village IMO. In another decade it'll be Belmont East (Ferry, Bridgeport, Bellaire).

Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
PVC D5 teams take a big hit and get shifted to region 17.A much tougher region with powerhouses David Anderson,Bedford St Chanel, and St Thomas Aquinas.
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
^^^ and Youngstown Ursuline University.
I'm not sure what OHSAA is doing. They basically traded the Wayne County Athletic League (teams like Smithville, Rittman, etc..) with the PVC. If you look on the OHSAA website they have the WCAL teams listed in the "Northeast" District, and the PVC teams in the "East" District. Yet they've taken WCAL out of the region that encompasses most of NE Ohio and placed them in Reg 19 with teams that are in the Southeast District. Imagine a week 11 trip from Smithville to Wheelersburg!!! That's basically going from Akron to Portsmouth.
Something is fishy.

Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Yea not sure how Washington County schools and Cleveland schools can be in the same region?
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Hope we're still allowed to talk PVC on this board. With these new regions technically we are now part of Northeast Ohio.

Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
woah so we could see someone like monroe central out of the pvc possibly playing ursuline in the first week of the playoffs?
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Yeah, and that will likely happen. Ursuline plays Canton McKinley this year as well as a lot of their same schedule from last year. They could go 6-4 or 5-5 and get a 6th or 7th seed and travel to Woodsfield if the Noles can get 9 or more wins. Not going to be pretty.
