Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
ouch.. that could be painful to watch.. looks like pvc teams arent going to have much of a shot to make it to 2nd or 3rd game in the playoffs.. that's unfair, and unethical.. why would they set them up like that?
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Well to be fair the rest of Region 17 is usually pretty good but not completely unbeatable even for MC or any good playoff quality PVC team. So if they were to draw somebody other than Ursuline then they have a shot at winning. But obviously Ursuline is top dog. The thing that might work in R17's favor is Ursuline probably still has the athletes to dominate R17, but they don't have the same team they had a year ago by far. Their schedule is loaded: Mooney D3, Canton McKinley D1, St. Edwards (defending D1 state champs), Mentor D1, Mentor Lake Catholic D2, Akron SVSM D3... among others (and the Divisions I have were last years). That's 6 games against major Ohio powers. Unbelievable. Probably a situation where if they get in the playoffs they win a state title, but they may not make it.
After Ursuline, other teams in R17 are probably better than MC but not by a whole lot. For example, Crestview finished 4th in the region last year... in 2008 MC opened with Crestview and lost by 1 pt in OT. Just using that as an example.

Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
yeah makes sense but i dont understand why they would take teams so far away from each other and put them in the same region.
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Probably just random bad luck. But if you are a conspiracy theorist: The ADs of the Wayne County Athletic League were the ones that brought this referendum to OHSAA about private schools winning too many championships. All of that recent voting for this formula that would push teams up divisions was all instigated by a few WCAL ADs whining to the commissioner. So, you could think that to shut them up for a while they move the D5 WCAL teams out of Ursuline's region and into an easier region such as 19. But to do that they would need to move the same number of teams out of 19 and into 17. The D5 PVC teams were the perfect sacrificial lambs.
I'm not one of those "everybody is out to get me" types, so it probably isn't anything more. But it is true what I said about the WCAL AD's, and it just seems strange the 2 conferences get switched all of a sudden. Woodsfield HS and MC have been in R19 since its inception in 1980 until this year. I don't know about other D5 PVC teams.

Never understood why some kids don't take the time to actually keep their grades up, at least high enough to remain eligible. You only get one chance to play high school football. Well, I guess i'd rather have something like this happen now, than in the middle of the season. This should give them plenty of time to find a replacement before the season starts, and they'll still have Rossitter, who was the better of the two IMO.

no doubt Rossiter is the better back . i watched him play some jv last year and he was decent at tailback . i seen him run track and it looked like he has lost a good bit of weight . interesting to see how well he can block for Adam .

Any word on the whole Kinchen situation? Heard that me might be in some trouble?
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
In the earlier talks you guys were hammering Caldwell. I wouldn't underestimate them too much. Crocuher is inexperienced but he has been working on his game a lot this summer. Including working out 3 times a week, and also throwing a lot. With Rossiter in the backfield and 3 pretty good wide-outs in Hesson, Danford, and border, they will be fine. You really don't need that great of a quarterback when your going to run the ball 80% of the time, you just need a smart one, and that's what Crocuher is. I say they go 7-3 this year, with losses to these 3 (Harrison Central, Wheeling Central, Monroe Central).

Yea, but from what I have heard they are returning a bit, and they are D-3, which is tuff for any D-6.

I'm not sure we saw enough out of those receivers last year to label them as "pretty good". Barnesville isn't exactly an automatic W either, plus Fort Frye and Shenandoah probably have the ability to beat Caldwell as well.3 for me wrote:In the earlier talks you guys were hammering Caldwell. Really starting to think Fort Frye is more like a 5-5 team..Shon Smith isn't playing because of basketball. The line is big and all played a lot last year.Chandler Lang is a great athlete but its his 1st year varsity QB.Spencer Lang is a beast but he is the only true playmaker.Derek Bates and Max Alsbach will have to step it up.One of the Lang boys go down it could get real ugly.

River
@ Belpre
@ Waterford
River Valley
@ Monroe Central
@ Frontier
Trail
Caldwell
@ Shenandoah
Bishop Rosecrans
5-5 with that schedule would be a huge disappointment in my eyes.
FF should be 4-0 heading into the Central game. River is still way down, both River Valley and Belpre are coming off 1-9 seasons, and they shut out Waterford last year. Then you still have games against Frontier, who lost a TON, Trail who also went 1-9 last year, and i'm not sure what Rosecrans has coming back. Then you have the Caldwell and Shenandoah games which are hard to predict since both teams are making a few changes.

If the Lang boys stay healthy and Bates and Alsbach contribute it could be a 7-3 season again.

If Frontier gets a line they will be good. They have been doing good in passing scrimmages.Remember the names Amos,Merckle,Salzar,Apshier, and Jefferson.

Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Unless you are absolutely horrible, you should do well in passing scrimmages. I can't see them being any better than they were last year after losing the best QB in the league and I believe both of their RB's who were pretty good, not to mention anyone else they might have lost in the receiving corps and the line.
