Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
I agree they will have an uphill battle but WCC's three year starting qb transferred to Park for his upcoming senior season. Should make things a little more interesting.
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Wheeling Central would have won a few D6 Ohio Titles over the years. I'd place money on their 2006 team being able to win D5 that year. Last year even though they won the WV title they weren't state championship material in Ohio as evidenced by their losses to Bridgeport and Shadyside. However, they were both tight games and Shadyside went on to go to the state title game so WC wasn't too far off. They did lose their starting QB, but they just reload. They fit their offense to the players they have.
It will be a tough matchup for Caldwell, but if Caldwell can hang with them through 3 quarters or even keep it tight for the entire game that is a great sign. They won't face anybody in R23 as good as WC... probably not even Newark Catholic. Caldwell has the OOC schedule to get them ready. If they have talent coming back they could be a tough out come playoff time in their region even if they only win 6 or 7 games.

Not smack talking at all, but when was the last time FF won the PVC in football? 2000? How many PVC football titles does the Fort have?

They had a bad stretch from 01-08 but other then those years they have been very average. When your in a league with MC/Woodsfield not many teams wins league titles.

This. Every once in a while you have a school get some good classes come through and they'll make a run like River and Buckeye Trail did a few years back. But, on a consistent basis, doesn't seem anyone gives much competition to MC, at least not lately. Just look at some of the teams Caldwell has had the past couple years and still couldn't touch MC. Went 9-1 last year, with a 49-13 dismantling by MC. Year before that, finished the regular season 8-2, losing to MC 41-7. Another 8-2 season in 08, and another loss to MC.EasternDspy wrote:They had a bad stretch from 01-08 but other then those years they have been very average. When your in a league with MC/Woodsfield not many teams wins league titles.

Yea FF played MC tough last year and still lost 35_14.It still was 21-14 going into 4th.A long hogue td run and late mop up td run by Nixon made it 35-14.That was probably the best they could have played and still lost by 3 scores.
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
MC didn't win a PVC title from '03 to '08. Included were some pretty average teams. So it's not like MC doesn't go through downturns like anybody else. They've had some exceptional teams the past 2 years, and probably will this year too. The PVC has been down the past couple years too.
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
I really wouldn't say that the PVC has been down, I would say that MC has just been that good.

But it's not like they didn't have good teams either:selonmc wrote:MC didn't win a PVC title from '03 to '08. Included were some pretty average teams. 2003- 9 and 1
2004- 7 and 3
2005- 5 and 5
2006- 7 and 3
2007- 4 and 6
2008- 7 and 3
Only one sub .500 season in there. Some schools would gladly take that kind of success.
And as far as titles go, are you just talking outright, because I thought Caldwell shared a PVC title with one or two other teams a few years ago and I assumed MC was part of that.
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Yeah MC shared a title in 2005 with a 5-5 record with River and Caldwell. I was referring to an outright title. That's a title, but the other teams finished with better overall records... kind of a weak one. lol
I Drain 3's I remember you said something after the MC/Caldwell game last year... something like "football just means more to them". That's probably true. We've had 1 coach since Nixon was President. Nothing builds a program better than stability and continuity. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Circosta retires.

Which is why I think Devol's departure will be a huge loss. He brought stability and winning ways to a program that hadn't seen much success prior to his arrival. I was in HS the last time Perkins coached there, and those teams had some pretty good talent, but just weren't able to put it together. Devol left some huge shoes to fill, and i'm not expecting Caldwell to be quite at the level they were the past few years, but i'm hoping Perkins can step in and continue the success we've seen here recently.selonmc wrote:Yeah MC shared a title in 2005 with a 5-5 record with River and Caldwell. I think I read on OVathletics that it was a 4 way tie with Monroe, River, Caldwell, and Shenendoah.
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
MC's 1-2 punch with Tyler Kinchen and Cole Hogue is going to be tough to stop. Not to mention they have Tyler's brother Tyrone on the outside with Lafferre. That's a lot of talent and experience.

Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Is Tyrone going to be able to play? I had talked with one of the coaches a few months ago and he was not sure if Tyrone would be playing or not, due to his knee injury late in the season last year that required surgery. If he is able to play, that is a huge plus for MC.
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Yes, he is playing. He was a question mark before the season.Steely Dan wrote:Is Tyrone going to be able to play? Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Is Trail going to be as bad as last year, or even worse? They have Ridgewood in week 1 again. YIKES!!!!
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
Trail won't be very good this year at all. Probably get a win against Bellaire SJ, and maybe even river or frontier, but that's about as far as there winning will go.
Re: PVC Pre-season Talk
The talk in Woodsfield is that Circosta had drill instructors from the Army and National Guard waiting for the Noles at the practice field on Tuesday morning and they ran the practice. Kudos to Jay.
