Lol

There have been a few great teams since the 80's

Stricklin & Decaminada's team was 1990.

Gibby's last year with Chris Ford & Kyle Dean were as good as this years team, imo. Tough luck kept them out of the regionals.

2. Chris Hewitt
3. Phil Hewitt

Was a pretty good rotation, btw.

I'll take Sano over any of those three. Sano vs Corrigan would be a good one

None of the teams will ever compare to the 1990 group Raider.

Senior league world series champions at age 15
American legion state champions at 18

Corey Corrigan (class of '89 - but was young enough to play with the class of 90 in summer ball) - Ohio University pitcher
Scott DeCaminada - 1990 - Ohio University pitcher
Kevin Scurlock - 1990 - played small college ball pitcher
Izzy Olvera - 1991 - pitched Athens into the regionals - small college pitcher
Scott Stricklin - 1990 - MAC freshman of the year at Kent State.
Brock Toadvine - 1990 - Ohio University left field

Pitched against Scurlock and Izzy....they were great. Izzy fanned 15 in Jackson I believe (he didn't get me 😀)....but in the 7th inning down 2-1 Stricklin gave me my only caught stealing of my lifetime. Threw me out from his knees....and had 3 of Athens 5 hits off of me. He owned me. I think he was 6/6 off me in our career matchups.

I remember Izzy Olvera. I played at Portsmouth High School. He beat us 1-0, I think the District finals, when Portsmouth was #1 in state

Izzy had wicked stuff. Hard to believe he was the No. 4 pitcher on any team. lol

But in 1990, that's exactly what he was on the team that won the state championship in American legion. And if I'm not mistaking, Portsmouth was one of the better teams in the state tourney that year as well. Along with Newark.

State championship in legion might not sound impressive to the young generation - but prior to the 2000's - EVERYONE played legion ball.

They lost in the District Semi's to a team that didn't advance to the Regionals. The Unioto team that won the District that year was a 5th place team in the SVC lol.

i was on the Portsmouth post 23 legion team that year also. We finished 3rd. Lost to Newark 1-0 in 14 innings and Athens I think it was 3-2. I may have the scores backwards. But they were both 1 run games.

I remember watching them play - that was a special group. If Gregory and the one Hewitt hadn't chosen to play D1 football, I think they could have definitely been college baseball players

Yea, I know. Bunch of crap ... lol

I still think Athens was the best team in the field that year in Chillicothe.

Yeah it does when I see that people is posting and I get anxious that someone might have posted about the tournament that the topic is about instead of back and forth about who was better...

Tournament topic and not even a mention of any games scheduled....Sheeeesh
