Still can't believe there is nowhere to stream the radio broadcast... Any ideas?
Re: Week 1 - Wellston at Jackson
After two decades of frustration, Wellston has had bragging rights for the last year. It's up to the Ironmen to take control of this rivalry once again. I know every single one of those players wearing Red & White hasn't forgotten last season. Play hard, get it done, and send a message. Not this time, and not ever again!
Go Ironmen!!!

All ironman fans go to larosas for a little bit of food and some ice cold adult beverages before the game.
Re: Week 1 - Wellston at Jackson
Good luck Ironmen. Give that trophy a nice home. Play safe, play fair, and play hard.

Ate there yesterday. It was fantastic. I heard that's where the pizza for the games will come from this year. Sure hope so.Ironmannut07 wrote:All ironman fans go to larosas for a little bit of food and some ice cold adult beverages before the game.

Good Win!
First quarter lasted about 7 minutes and then the numerous infractions came about.
Offenses were rusty but defenses were solid.
Not sure the coaches like Saturday games.

Re: Week 1 - Wellston at Jackson
Jackson is very good defensively and Osborne and Ervin (sp?) provide 2 completely different styles of offense for Jackson to use.
Jackson did a great job shutting down Prater. Wellston could do absolutely nothing on offense and to make it worse, they penalized themselves to death. I would doubt Wellston had over 100 yds of total offense. Down 28-0 I couldnt understand why Wellston kept trying to pound the ball up the middle when Jackson is stacked at LB and they had no success with it all night?

Re: Week 1 - Wellston at Jackson
Congrats to the Ironmen on the win. It's nice to be back on the right side of the rivalry.
Jackson was outstanding defensively tonight. They were able to really shut down Prater and the Wellston offense. I wasn't able to hear the stats after the game, but I'm sure Wellston's offensive numbers were pretty minimal. Nose guard, OJ Barr, was selelcted as the player of the game tonight, and he certainly earned it. OJ disrupted everything Wellston tried to do, made several tackles for a loss, had at least a couple sacks, and forced a couple fumbles as well. Outstanding effort by the three year starter at nose. The rest of the Jackson defense really ran to the football, put pressure on the Wellston QBs, and played a very physical football game. The hit by Drew Ervin on Prater that caused a fumble, and led to Jackson's 4th TD, was just brutal.
Offensively, Jackson certainly started off slow. The offensive line, with a couple guys battling sickness, wasn't able to get things going the way they had hoped early on, but they ended up playing a decent game. There is certainly room for improvement, and that will come with experience. Replacing five starters with guys who haven't really played much varsity football on the O-Line is something that will take some time. Jackson's backfield with Osborne, Ervin, and Landrum showed that they can grind it out, or beat you with the big play. Ty McNelly continues to show that he is one of the better receivers in all of SE Ohio, as well, with two great TD catches tonight. The weapons are there at the skill positions...just need the offesnsive line to continue to improve, and Jackson's offense can be very dangerous.
In the third phase of the game, kicking and kick coverage were outstanding tonight. 5-for-5 for Luke Eisnaugle, which is what we like to see.
Next up is Waverly, and the Ironmen are well aware of how tough the Tigers always are in Week #2. Jackson needs to have a great week of practice, work out some of the kinks, and get ready for a battle at Alumni Stadium.

Not sure, but I do know that the team did not receive the trophy immediately after the game.Pol Pot wrote:Is it true Wellston did not bring the trophy?

Re: Week 1 - Wellston at Jackson
Congrats to the Ironmen and to O.J. Barr on player of the game. Great game O.J. you deserved it. See ya next year. Rockets only one thing to do and that is RISE UP!! A very tough loss, but one loss does not a season make. Week 2 comin up, lets regroup and go bird huntin!
Re: Week 1 - Wellston at Jackson
Exactly right. Wellston played very well defensively tonight. If they can put together a defensive effort like that the rest of the season, they're going to be fine. Good luck to the Rockets against Minford.steelcurtain44 wrote:A very tough loss, but one loss does not a season make.
