WEEK 1: Minford @ South Point
Season opener is only 11 days away.
Minford looked very good in their scrimmage Saturday vs Portsmouth. Not sure what South Point returns this year, but I have seen a mixed bag of reviews of their scrimmages. Minford looked 10 times better than they did against Rock Hill last Tuesday. If they show up to play like they did against Portsmouth, their offense will be hard for the Pointers to handle.
I see Minford winning this one, controlling the clock and racking up alot of yards of offense on the ground. But then again, South Point might be very surprising.
Thoughts?

I look for the Falcons to roll in this one, looked better at Portsmouth with the run. Also thought the played the pass well on defense. Good luck and hope we stay healthy.
Re: WEEK 1: Minford @ South Point
South Point is small but very fast. They looked awesome last night against Tolsia. Our QB was really impressive with the pass last night. Brandon was a beast and the defense although small seemed to do well. Seeing the SP/Minford 8th grade scrimmage this looks to be the same matchup. Minfords 8th was huge compared to SP. But SP's speed was too much.

Falcons should take this one. Even if SP has some speed. If their line is small and quick, I doubt they can hang with our big physical line. Even though our line is big they still have the quickness to get where they need to be. Should be a good start to the year for Minford.

Does South Point's stadium have an artificial surface or is it grass? Also, is it right beside the new South Point school?
Re: WEEK 1: Minford @ South Point
SP has field turf, and the stadium is by the new school on the hill. It's a nice stadium, and lot's of parking.

South Point quick line? Small and very average! They powered the ball but the fb broke a ton of tackles and had yards after contact. I think this game will be ugly. If Minford is as solid and fundemental as in past years they should have no problem in this one. SP passing game is horrible.IRONFALCON wrote:Falcons should take this one. Even if SP has some speed. Re: WEEK 1: Minford @ South Point
Even though Minford may not have the speed in the backfield it had last year, the line has show to be very physical and most of the time the guards and tackles are blocking through the line and then going to attack the LB's and safety. Minford still has plenty of speed in the backfield with Snyder, and Gaines looks like he is no slouch when he hits a clearing. Both tough to bring down one on one. The line seems to be in very good shape and will wear smaller lines down fast, then it could get ugly.
I talk to alot of Lawrence Co folks and the non SP fans say that SP is not good at all this year, while the SP fans say they are going to be pretty good. I guess tomorrow we will find out!
If the Minford offense plays very well like they did against Portsmouth, I could see Minford putting up 40+ and not throwing the ball much at all. If the Minford defense plays like it did against Portsmouth and doesnt give up a couple big fluke plays defending the pass , I dont see them giving up more than 14 pts.
This is a Minford team that can win alot of games this year once they find out how good they can really be. I see that trend starting tomorrow night!

South Point will have a chance to win in 2 games this year. This is not 1 of them.

Re: WEEK 1: Minford @ South Point
Minford rolled early and then starting putting the backups in. They got a little sloppy in the second half, but looked very good the first half when the starters were rolling down the field.
Minford should have a much better test against Wellston next week.
