Final: @ Portsmouth 56 Chillicothe 34
Re: Chillicothe @ Portsmouth, 2/3
Rabeanos12- My exact thought. I feel like this is a VERY good team, but still probably our weakest TEAM since maybe the 2010 year? Which I believe got beat in the sectional final to Waverly? And before then probably the 2006 team maybe? Chillicothe has been very spoiled lately with very good teams.
Re: Chillicothe @ Portsmouth, 2/3
Now fellas don't get too down on the Cavs..I agree with both statements tho..it seems that the Achilles Heel for this Cavs team is good quick guards and Turnovers...also some of the teams the Cavs have scheduled this year has been good regardless of record...when the Cavs are clicking as a team, i.e. Dublin Coffman and Warren, they are as good as any SE team out there..I admit tho we as Cavalier fans have been spoiled, the future is still bright in Cavalier land...
Now back to the game at hand....Go Cavs

I really enjoy this matchup every year. I hope both teams make it to the state tournament. Portsmouth has a nice record again this year. After looking at their schedule though, it looks as if they play a lot of D3 and D4 teams. example: south point, south webster, whiteoak, peebles.. Cmon fellas, no wonder your record is awesome. With that being said Ptown can beat the Cavs again. I would just like to see some stiffer competition down by the river.

I agree with a couple teams you mentioned that we prob should not play, I have not seen Peebles but have heard they are pretty good and has only lost 1 game?...but on the other hand, the good teams on our schedule we have done pretty well against, our only 2 losses was , to Ironton and Warren who are both in the top 10,and then comeing back to beat themin the re match.
Portsmouth Chillicothe games are almost always great games,,hoipeinmg for another one,,and another Trojan win.
Re: Chillicothe @ Portsmouth, 2/3
I actually dont mind the non league slate, especially since the league forces the Trojans to play up on most nights

Yeah you have to give it to Kellough for scheduling the gauntlet of a non-conf. this year. Granted we have only won one of the big games (Scioto) correct me if im wrong. But the 3 games we have lost to those tough programs should prove to be valuable come tourney time. Wont see a team of that caliber until Athens
Go Cavs!!

Yes, there are some good programs up and down the ohio river;which would provide very good competition. Huntington high, Ashland, Mason Co KY, and not to forget the peak panthers. Those schools would make a fine addition to Portsmouths schedule. 2012-2013 will be a 22 game season, so maybe a couple of those teams can be added,

Not to be an ass but it's only 2012. So you're basically just saying, "we were better last year."peytonhillis wrote:I feel like this is a VERY good team, but still probably our weakest TEAM since maybe the 2010 year?
"this is the worst team we've had in 2 years." haha.
Just messin with you mostly but I just thought it was funny when you said that. I do agree though. This team may not have the firepower to compete for a regional title but I do believe they are CAPABLE of winning this game AND competing for a district title as well. I would not be suprised at all if they win a district title given favorable match-ups. And I don't believe they will see any teams that are the caliber of a Dublin Scioto, Gahanna Lincoln, Columbus Eastmoor, or Dayton C-J untill probably a regional championship or possibly regional semi depending on where those teams are coming from(I don't really know what the format is this year as it seems to change every year and I don't know what the eastern or central districts look like).
All in All, I look for the Cavs to play much better than they did on Tuesday. Gahanna Lincoln was a better team than the Cavs but they were not 20 points better. The Cavs should have played better and have something to prove. Couple that with the revenge factor and they should play much tougher. It will still be VERY tough to go into Portsmouth and come away with a win. If they do, A league, Sectional, and District Title are all possible.

A win tonight will put the Trojans in sole possession of 1st place in the SEOAL with just two league games remaining........at home vs. Logan next Friday, then on the road at Gallia Academy the following Friday to close the regular season.
A win also would even Coach Collins' record vs. Chillicothe at 3-3.........Coach Collins' record vs. other prominent SE District teams.........Wheelersburg 4-0, Ironton, 3-2, Chesapeake 2-0.
GO TROJANS!!

Re: Chillicothe @ Portsmouth, 2/3
As far as future scheduling, I agree with Mark that there are several good programs in the immediate Tri-State area that would provide good competition for the Trojans.......Coach Collins has talked about adding a holiday tournament in the future, similar to the old "Wendy's Classic" of the late 80's and early 90's. Back then it was common for the Trojans to play and beat big city schools in that tournament, namely Dayton Dunbar, Dayton Colonel White, Columbus Mifflin, Gahanna Lincoln, Columbus Watterson, Akron Hoban, and Cincinnati Moeller. In fact, in 1988, the Trojans scored 100 points vs. both Dayton Colonel White and Columbus Mifflin.
Coach Collins has talked about going to Florida again in possibly two years........it cost $20,000 to go last year........and the Trojans went 2-1 in the big school class.
Of course Portsmouth's enrollment has dropped significantly in the last 20 years........from about 340 to only 179..........there are some people in Portsmouth who have a hard time accepting PHS being a much smaller school now..........in fact, Chillicothe has almost twice the enrollment of PHS.........338 to 179.........when I graduated in 1975, PHS had an enrollment of almost 400.........but times have changed........as a smaller school now, it is much tougher to win consistently against schools that are considerably larger than you.
When Portsmouth's enrollment was larger, nobody in the SE District had the upper hand on the Trojans........and PHS has a winning record all-time vs. Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati schools....... for example, a 15-5 vs. Columbus East, a 5 time state champion..........but realistically, even with the Trojans doing well at the present time, it would be very tough to maintain that level of winning consistency vs. larger schools with an enrollment of only 179............I don't think there's anything wrong with playing teams in your division.........PHS is the only D3 school playing in a D2/D1 league......Piketon, Peebles, Wheelersburg, Ironton are all good D3 programs currently on Portsmouth's schedule, although this has been a down year for the Burg. Russell, KY, is a new addition to the schedule, and they would be a D2 school in Ohio.
Of course over a 20 game schedule, a school will play a couple of games vs. teams in a lower division than them........case in point, D2 Chilllicothe playing D3 Portsmouth twice......of course it's league play, but it still shows that a school won't always "play up" a division every game. Portsmouth played D4 South Webster and Whiteoak this year, both programs that have made the state tournament in the last decade, with SW winning the state title in 2006.
As I said earlier, I am all for playing some of the good programs around the Tri-State area and adding a big city school or two..........but I also think the Trojans currently do play a respectable schedule......... and being the smallest school in the SEOAL is a fact that cannot be overlooked. That's half of PHS's schedule right there.

Re: Chillicothe @ Portsmouth, 2/3
I remember the year at Portsmouth when Tubbs hit a 2 pointer from the top of the key to beat Chillicothe. I thought that was 78.It would have been a 3 pointer today.
