Football Memories As A Kid And Favorite Players...

Post by OVCfan »

What are some of you favorite football memories of your team when you were a kid, and some of your favorite players?

Favorite Players:

Mark Bavarro (TE) -- The baddest tight end to block in the NFL. Strong, silent, hard-case.

Bernie Kosar (QB) -- Graduated early to go to his home team. Smart guy.

Jim Burt (NG) -- Can you get any more blue-collar than Jim Burt?

Howie Long (DL) -- Best line ever: "Assaulting people is my art."

I remember getting into the high school game for free because you played Pee-Wee football. Standing and watching the varsity run onto the field under the friday night lights knowing that one day i would have the chance to run out on that field under those lights. Learning about rivalries and what they mean not only to the school but the whole communities.

I was a kid so long ago that its hard to remember that far back. Most old men know your memory is the second thing to go. After serving Uncle Sam my Friday nights were spent watching Joe Defillipo, Rex Kern, Rob Carpenter and others.

I remember Rock Hill and Columbus Bishop Ready once went 5 overtimes with the Redmen pulling out the victory 56-55.

I remember how big the Rock Hill and Coal Grove games were thinking I couldn't wait to play in that game.

I remember being a Pedro Buckeye getting to play on the high school field on Saturday mornings.

My favorite RH player when I was in grade school was ol' #26 Frankie Littlejohn

I remember sitting on Ironton's home side as a kid with my dad watching Alphonso Johnson run the ball . Great memories of my youth and spending time with my dad.

Loved watching the 96 Jackson team go 10-0. Beat Hillsborough in round 1 then lost a close one to Columbus desales in the regional finals.

The 1970 Gallia Academy Blue Devils going 10-0, winning the championship against Logan at home, tearing down the old H-shaped goalpost, going up 2nd Ave. to the Shakeshoppe after the game.

Chuck and Pete Neal, and Kenny Wamsley to name a few...
