Circleville vs. Athens - D2 district semi, Wed at Convo

This is Circleville's first district appearance since 2002, and I believe 93Bulldog said first one for Athens in 19 years. Long time coming for the two schools.

The Athens Messenger reported that Athens last visited the Convo in 2000 ... I was lounging on a beach in Florida during late 90's - early 2000's ... Sorry, I didn't remember that team bman.

... bman ... an advantage for Coach Skinner in this one is that he prepared his TEAM for Logan Elm Friday night, in prepping for Circleville it will be very similar - Roundtown plays the deliberate offensive game, working the ball until they get the shot they are looking for ... the Tigers are a balanced scoring team (vs LE the scoring by the 5 starters => Burrows 8, Smith 8, Amey 8, Hammon 7, Moats 7 ... bench scoring was non-existant only 2 points) ... CHS perimeter shooting ? Coach Evans boyz only attempted 10 three pointers converting on 1 ... only 11 TOs vs the sticky Logan Elm pressure ... LE played zone vs Roundtown holding CHS to 40 points ... in my opinion Athens matches up very well with the their zone defense vs Circleville ... as I posted last night after the Athens win vs LE - Circleville is a good matchup for the Bulldogs in their opening round at the Convo on the 29th ...

I agree playing Logan Elm is a good prep for playing Circleville, but there are a few differences. 1. I believe LE has two of the better players with Riffle and Young, but Circleville has a little deeper overall team. 2. Circleville is stronger than Logan Elm at the point with Burroughs, who has really come around in the second half of the season. You saw LE had a tough time stopping his penetration in the second meeting between the two schools. 3. While Pritchard played better down the stretch for LE, Moats has been a more consistent player for the whole season in the paint. Circleville needs to get him the ball a little more than they did down the stretch of the regular season. 4. Amey is an X-factor. He had a very good game against Unioto, and was a big reason why Cville almost upset Chillicothe in the tournament last year. He can get to the rack, and also get into the passing lanes for some steals.

Now in saying all this, Athens definitely showed with its upset of LE that it is a force to be reckoned with in this tournament, especially with the district really having no teams who are capable of simply running away with it at the D2 level. It is going to be another grind-it-out type of ballgame.

Looking forward to a dish of Basketball 30 on Wednesday and another on Thursday.

Circleville hit a 3 at the buzzer to take their 1st lead, 23-22 at halftime.

Circleville is now up 43-33 with 5 minutes left.

Circleville's defense is very good, they are willing to let you shoot, but they close out well and it's a lot of one shot trips.

43-35, Athens' putting pressure on the Tigers and they keep turning it over, this is how Unioto got back in it. Circleville struggles at times handling the ball.

43-37 with 4 minutes left

Moats(C) with a layup to break an 8-0 Athens run. 45-37 now.

Intentional foul on Circleville though! Both FTs good. Skinner then knocks down a 3! 45-42 Circleville leads

47-42, Amey with a layup. Stanley misses a 3 and Amey with the rebound for the Tigers.

Moats called for the foul, sounds questionable, one said it was all ball, main official overturns it. 1st FT no good, 2nd is good. 47-43.

Circleville then turns the ball over. Athens ball, about 1:30 left

Athens airballs a 3 and a quick foul. Only the 6th team foul.

Guards for Circleville run some clock, but kick it inside for Moats who is called for a charge! Athens ball again, Stanley shot is blocked. Timeout Circleville. They won't say how much time is left...ever.

Athens fouls. Moats to the line for the 1 and 1. Misses the 1st, but Amey gets the rebound for Circleville and gets fouled!

1st FT is good. 2nd FT is good. 18 pts now for Amey, 49-43 now. Athens misses a 3 and Hamman rebounds for Circleville. Makes the 1st. 2nd FT is no good. Stanley can't save the miss on the other end. Amey is fouled for Circleville.

1st FT is good. 51-43 with 20 seconds left. 2nd FT is no good.

Athens was fouled, makes both. 51-45 with 3.9 seconds left. It's over. Congrats to the Tigers of Circleville!
