I'd have made the trek and paid good money to see the rutters from Gtown roll into Woodsfield and get a big dose of the horse. That would have been worth the price of admission. Oh well, maybe one of these days. And isn't Waterloo where Napoleon met his defeat? Or am I thinking of ABBA and that crappy song that they made millions of bucks off of in the 70's?surfsider wrote:Wow, a game at Waterloo? I don't think fort frye has a chance against river. they'll go 5-5 at best, beating the teams they should. In all 5 of their losses last year, they got a total score of 0. They'll be in the middle range of the conference.
1.River
2.MC
3.Shenandoah
4.Fort Frye
5.Caldwell
6.Trail
7.Frontier

Now Steely, didn't you hear about the musical 'Mamma Mia'? I'm sure Waterloo was part of that experience.Steely Dan wrote:I'd have made the trek and paid good money to see the rutters from Gtown roll into Woodsfield and get a big dose of the horse. River returns 90% of their starters on both sides of the ball. Last years team didnt hit their stride till midseason when they figured out what their game was. This years team should be much better and should be able to pick up right where they left off. FF better have improved a heck of alot if they want to stay in this one. Thats my honest take on this game, just an opinion of course! With the high expectations in Hannibal, Flannery Field should be rockin for this one.EasternDspy wrote:Fort Frye vs River will be an interesting game as the Cadets return most of the team.River should be the favorite but it won't be no push over game. Re: PVC - what's the early buzz?
At this point in May this is how I see it. 1.River -Will be monsters and probably have a good playoff run. 2.Monroe Central- Laffrie and Nixon and JayCircosta says it all. 3.Fort Frye- This one could be a toss up between them and Caldwell and sleeper Frontier.Chandler and Spencer Lang are very good. 4.Caldwell- Not sold on Carpenter at Qb but like VanMeter and Rayner carrying the ball. 5.Frontier- Yeah I know they got pounded but they have so much back and I think Jefferson and Salazar are decent players. 6.Shenandoah is one year away from falling off the map in all sports.Eli and Newhart win them a few games. 7.Trail bad they went 2-8 and best players were Srs.

Re: PVC - what's the early buzz?
Like most have stated, Caldwell will more than likely be middle of the pack. They're losing a few key players, but have talent at the lower levels. Carpenter is a great athlete, but i'm not sure what kind of experience he has at the QB position. It'll be tough to replace Rossiter's production from last year, but I think they have players capable of stepping in. Rayner and VanMeter will most likely be the feature backs. Look for some younger players such as Lori to get some varsity minutes and hopefully produce well.
Re: PVC - what's the early buzz?
Monroe Central wins it again. And it doesn't look like that trend is going to change anytime soon. The talent isn't dropping off in Woodsfield to say the least. Therefore look for Jay to keep the reigns for quite a while.
Re: PVC - what's the early buzz?
The story we were told is that Monroe lost a lot from last year. They will be competitive in every game but not up to the standards they have established in the past. Coach Jay will get the most from his players as always but Shadyside and River may have a little more talent this year.

Monroe had more talent standing on the sidelines last year than River & Shadyside had on the field. River needs to figure out how to score if they even want to think about winning ball games. If you don't put points on the board then you aren't going to win to many ball games, atleast not against good programs, plain & simple! As far as Shadyside goes, look at the score that is all that needs to be said.
Re: PVC - what's the early buzz?
I don't think MC is in that bad of shape. The biggest hole is inside linebacker. Kinchen was a beast there and so was hogue. You cant easily replace that talent.I expect them to be softer up the middle this year.
However they return most of their line so that should be a strongpoint. Yeah Kinchen is gone at QB, but they'll replace him with Lafferre. It's not like it's somebody who doesn't have game experience. It will take him time to get reps at QB but by the River game in week 3 he should be fine. At any rate, he's quicker and faster than Kinchen and I think he'll do great with the style of offense MC runs. If he turns out to be at the very least an average passer then MC will be fine. Plus he'll have more talent at the skill positions returning than they are getting credit for on here. MC's success will hinge on the health of Lafferre.

Re: PVC - what's the early buzz?
River isn't going to struggle on offense as much as they did last year. Pretty sure their offense picked up towards the end of the year after they made a switch at QB due to injury. Their defense was pretty solid for the most part, and I don't believe they're losing much, so it should only get better. They should definitely make a playoff run in region 23. Central won't have Kinchen at QB to rely on anymore, so it will be interesting to see how much thats going to affect their offense.
Re: PVC - what's the early buzz?
That's the point I was trying to make. MC will feel the loss of Kinchen on defense more so than offense next year. Most of the MC offense is QB draws, sweeps, and pre-determined options. If Lafferre has any accuracy with his throws I think the offense improves from last year. He's much quicker and faster than Kinchen.I drain 3's wrote:Central won't have Kinchen at QB to rely on anymore, so it will be interesting to see how much thats going to affect their offense.
MC has Waterloo and Shadyside right out of the gate, both away games. River has Fort Frye and Newcomerstown. MC has the tougher schedule coming into the week 3 and will be better tested . It's their first home game of the year, and it is an absolute must win for the Noles to make the playoffs in Region 17. River will be a big point game in 2012 and the Noles have to cash in on harbin point opportunities. River will be 2-0 coming in, and they could go 7-3 and make the playoffs in Region 23. River had a nice run at the end last year, but they did it against teams that went 10-30; and 5 of those wins are from 1 team.. Shenandoah. And lastly imo MC has earned the right to be the favorite until they get beat. They haven't been beaten in the PVC since 2008.

Nick asturi from river thinks he's got what it takes to play at the next level, but from what i saw at the magnolia game last year he was winded after the first few plays. rumor also has it that he and the powhatan frosty treat have had a very close relationship lately, he should have stuck with basketball (smh).

You're absolutely right! River's Offense picked it up big time when the QB switch was made. Unfortunately, "politics" might be at play concerning that position and we might not get to see just how potent the Pilot offense can be.I drain 3's wrote:River isn't going to struggle on offense as much as they did last year. Re: PVC - what's the early buzz?
If the starter is not getting the job done, you go in a different direction. Period. The backup, that "had no part in winning the last 4 games," saved River's playoff chances in the Caldwell game, accounting for 42 points with the same offense that for almost a month couldn't score. The playoff run only lasted a week if you remember,as the "starter" was put back in and had 5 turnovers in a loss to Zanesville Rosecrans, a game they should've won. If River wants to, A. Make the payoffs, and B. Make any kind of playoff run, they simply can't give the ball away. The turnovers and inconsistant play have been happening for almost 3 seasons now. How long is his leash? River's rushing game would benefit from a passing threat. Every team they played last year loaded the box to stop the run. There was no fear whatsoever of a passing game. Just being handed a position because of who you are, who your relatives are, or where you're from, is wrong. Open and fair competion for any starting position would be good for all parties concerned. That doesn't always happen. Just saying.pilotfan1 wrote:More like internet politics. No matter the level of sports, the backup is always the one that should be playing, right?
