Re: Nelsonville-York has 2 State Champions
Unbelievable! Congrats to Thomas and Zach. Truly amazing that Zach got a pin in the Finals! All that hard work paid off. To the parents...I know a LOT of sacrifice went into this day so ENJOY! Coach Yinger, what a year!!! I hope you stay on cloud 9 for months. Fellas, you will now be referred to as State Champs the rest of your life.
Congrats to all the kids on the team....it looks like the Buckeyes will finish 4th in the team standings. Again, outstanding job by the kids and Coach! Great job of representing the school and area. I can't wait to hear and see Buckeye and Doug call the matches on Channel 15.
WAY TO GO BUCKEYES!!!!

From the Athens Messenger...Should be more in Monday's paper.
McLaughlin, Mays win state wrestling titles for N-Y
COLUMBUS — Thomas McLaughlin and Zach Mays made school history for the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes on Saturday.
McLaughlin and Mays both won a state championship. McLaughlin is the champion in the Division III, 126-pound weight class while Mays is a state champ in the Division III, 170-pound weight class at the 2012 State Wrestling Tournament.
It’s the second and third individual wrestling state titles in the history of Nelsonville-York High School.
McLaughlin beat Hicksville’s Cody Laney 14-9 in the final.
Mays did it in dramatic fashion in his final. He pinned Jamestown Greenview's Armani Robinson in 2:42 to claim his state title.
Earlier in the day, Nelsonville-York’s Dakota Mays and Jacob Coon finished sixth in their respective weight class. Both wrestlers started the day alive for as high as a third-place finish but had to win two matches to get there.
Instead, both lost a pair of matches on Saturday to place sixth.
Dakota Mays lost a close one in his first 106-pound contest. He dropped a 9-7 sudden victory to Elmore Woodmore’s Evan Ulinski.
That dropped Mays into the fifth-place match where he lost to Delta’s Kyle Keller. Keller was able to get a pin in 24 seconds to wrap up fifth place.
Mays, just a freshman, finishes the season with a 22-6 record and a spot on the podium in the 106 pound weight class in Division III.
Coon’s first contest in the 220-pound bracket was against Kody Bellamy of Sandusky St. Mary’s C.C. Bellamy won with a 14-4 major decision.
In the fifth-place match, Coon lost to Blanchester’s Travis Boyd 6-3. That put Coon as the sixth-place finisher in the Division III, 220-pound class.
Coon, a senior, finishes his season with a mark of 45-11.
