Marietta vs Jon Alder(18-5) Sweet 16 3/6 Zanesville.
Re: Marietta vs Jon Alder(18-5) Sweet 16 3/6 Zanesville.
Marietta just not enough after all the energy to make the run to get back in the game when down 14. They cut it to 1, but shots coming up short.

Congrats for another great year for the Lady Tigers. That's how you want to go out, playing top talent and playing them hard.. Nothing to hang they're heads about! Congrats and what a team they'll have next year!

Both Washington Co. teams had the lead last night after the 1st quarter. Thanks to 3 deuces and a trey by Hill, Barton and Weppler in the first part of the 1st qtr, the Tigers stayed in the game until Amanda Brown went on a tear, like she did in the 2nd qtr of the sectional final, and scored two dueces and a 2 treys to end the qtr, the 2nd trey making it a 19-15 lead for Marietta, their largest lead of the night, a lead that evaporated very quickly in the 2nd with the 20-2 run by Alder. Dawson was ice cold early and didn't score until late in the 2nd qtr when she was fouled on the floor, but was given two FTs, which she made, but they were the only FTs Marietta would make in the game. But that must have gotten her going as she made a trey before half and then went off for 6 treys in the 2nd half, scoring two treys and a deuce in very short order to cut the lead from 59-50 to 59-58 in less than 80 sec with still more than 4 min left. The players other than Dawson and Brown really stepped up like they needed to on FG shooting going 10/19 for 52.6%, while Dawson and Brown, despite each of their hot streaks, went a combined 14/47 for 29.8% -- these shooting percentages are reversed from what has been typical this season. The FT trend was indicated in the previous two games as Dawson shot 84.6% and the rest of the team 25.9%.
