ALL-SED Candidates (all divisions)

Post by jimmy chipwood »

Thinking about doing an All-Southeast District for the entire district including all 71 teams. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams consisting of 5 players each. Hell, maybe even a SED Player of the Year. What I would really like is additional statistical information for as many of these candidates as I can get. Some are obviously no-brainers, some are not. As always I will take into account the level of competition a player has produced the stats that he has. A 20 ppg player in the SOC1 is obviously not the same as a 20 ppg player from the SOC 2 or SEOL! I would say these teams would be 75% objective and 25% subjective since I have saw most of the elite teams at the Convo over the last couple of weeks. This list is not supposed to be in order even though it might appear to be. Please help with factual stats and other intangibles. Please, let me know if you see errors on this list (postions, ht, year, etc).

The only error in the names I spotted was you have Wayne Evans listed as Wayne Fletcher.

you saw him play once pal, WITH THE FLU! All nice players, not taking anything away from anyone on the list or comparing players, but I give credit where it is due. Kid averaged 17ppg 8 reb and 3 blks. Swanker Pine you have proved your ignorance...Seip may be in the top five as far as athleticism....

what is this soccer?? Everyone get a trophy??
Man up
Narrow this down to six or seven 1st teamers and the same for 2nd team.
Maybe the coaches and sportswriters job isn't as easy as the average fan thinks.

It's not hard to know who the best players in the district are if you do a moderate amount of digging. Sources like the AP never bother to make a mixed listing like this one so I'm glad someone puts things like this up.

The 32 players he listed are simply a list of candidates. It's not the final list. His final list will consist of only 5 players per team: 1st, 2nd and 3rd. So, 15 players out of 71 team's....I'm pretty sure there are gonna be some britches in a bunch when he posts the final lists. But, I have no doubt it'll be thorough, whether we agree with it completely or not.

Not much love for the SVC?
What about Cole Murray, Craigen Moore, or Michael Brown? I believe Brown averaged a double double.
Great list though...

Close Ironman92, but I would put McKinley and Johnson and Salyers above Chapman. If we are going to go with the top 10.

Ironman,

Can you answer some questions about Colt Chapman?

What was his senior game averages = pts, reb, assist, etc? AP All-District had him around 21.5 ppg?

How many games did he play this year? Was he hurt or did he play all games?

What position did he play this year? I know last year he played a lot at the 2 and even some point.

Here is a very cool webpage containing some pretty cool info on Chapman with a 7 minute clip from his junior year where he averaged over 16 ppg/ 8 rpg. He handled the ball very well as a Junior - watching the clip kind of reminded me a little of Blake Yates.

Thanks for anything you can provide Ironman

Could really use Information on the following players. I can get a pretty good estimate on ppg from the AP Teams but need to know more about reb/assist/steals/tos and other intangibles.

Zach Johnson (Chilly)
Evan French (scored 40 @ Chilly) - Wow
Jacob Horsley (Sheridan)
Derek Clark (FU)
Dillon Young (LE)
Tim Grosel (Marietta) - saw a video clip from tv news and he is a strong/well built 5'10 guard!
Roseberry (Southern)
Ullman (Belpre)
McBee (Minford)
Courts (Wellston)

jimmy...a little info on jacob horsley
18.9 ppg - 9.1 rbg - 3.4 assists/g- 2.1 steals/g. I think his fg% was around 64% and FT %was 78%. I also heard at the banquet that he led the team in charges taken on defense. He typically played the 4 position, but also had to help bring the ball up court throughout the year as younger guards got acclimated to pressure.
I think the thing that meant the most to his team was how he took 9 new players under his wing, including a freshman and 2 sophs in the starting rotation with him, and exemplified how to work, practice, and enjoy each other. The team grew immensely as the season progressed and seemed to take on his personality, which is more quiet but very intense and business like. it will be hard to see him go, but sheridan will return 4 starters for the next 2 years who are proably a little better for being around jacob.

Skidaddy.....I'm not sure how many games you watched Chapman, but he did struggle some versus VC and was off against Wellston......he was superb most of the year. Now on the flipside I only watched Salyers in a scrimmage at Jackson and the game I watched Johnson he was being dominated by a pair of pesky but much smaller Jackson guards....but hit a 30 footer to win it. McKinley is excellent but I put Chapman slightly ahead.....couple reasons. First, I simply assembled what I thought was the best team if you put them altogether. Secondly, I watched McKinley only two times but one game was against Jackson and McKinley was solid but his team around him, well has proven to be phenomenal. Chapman single-handily kept Jackson right with Portsmouth until the very end....Chapman had 37 points and 16 rebounds....against Portsmouth and their athletes.

I know most of these players are heavily focused on....but Chapman was the offense for Jackson. He scored 21.5 per game (22 games) and I believe 12 rebounds per game. I would guess him around 4 assists and 3-4 steals per game....probably a block or block and a half. Someone with actual stats could give you more accurate. He was the District POY in region 14? (coaches selection)

Again, not saying I'm right and anyone is wrong....just my opinion. I do like the 5 I have in an actual game. #6-#8 are very close....could have any of those 3 replacing a couple.

Jimmy, he was very good as a junior. He was a worthy 1st team all-SEOAL player, but he grew from 6'3 to 6'5 and filled out maybe 15 lbs....he was definitely bigger, faster and stronger this year.

Tim Grosel:
15.4 ppg, 47% shooter from field, 39% from 3 - much improved outside shot this year due to hard work - always at the gym
4 apg, 4 rpg, 2.5 steals per game, 2 to/game as point guard 70% of time. Averaged about 30 minutes/game
very good, hard nosed defender and strong ball handler
Voted team captain by teammates as a junior
Also second team all-state in soccer this year and 2 time all-SEOAL first team baseball player. Being recruited mainly as baseball player I believe.
straight A student

Malik London -Chillicothe Just looking at Stats in District and 1 Regional game. 54 points, 37 rebounds and 26 block shots. 3 game average of

18 ppg
12.3 rpg
8.7 blocks per game

Plus 23 for 33 from the field for the 3 game stretch. Over 70% from the field.

Great to see this Senior Cav go out strong. Tough night for us Cav faithful, but 24,16 and 7 is putting in work. 10-14 from field and domination in the paint.

I'm not sure who the top 5 or 10 are playing at the Convo, but he is in my top 5.
