Wow, Athens must have gotten really lucky to have beaten Jackson 3 times this year in baseball. After all, they are an SEOAL school that Athens "ran" from. By the way, I am curious to know, what is their total record vs. the SEOAL this year in all sports combined?93Bulldog wrote:Don't forget the sectional title they won in baseball tonight.

Athens went 9-4 versus the SEOAL in football, basketball and baseball ... Athens is 1-1 versus the SEOAL in tournaments/playoffs.
(4 losses were: to Logan twice in basketball, Warren once in basketball and Warren once in baseball)
(Went 3-0 in football)
IRONMAN44 ... ATHENS WENT 3-0 vs THE SEOAL IN FOOTBALL ... THEN LOST THE PLAYOFF GAME. (3-1)

Which sport would that be? Because if you're talking about football, I believe Athens was 3-1 vs. the SEOAL this year.Ironmen44 wrote:In the sport that matters - zero wins, one loss. :122245

Football is the only sport that matters...... The best of the SEOAL beat the best of the TVC. Just sayin

9-4. Yep, that must be why they "ducked and ran." Obviously can't compete in the SEOAL.

Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
So nobody sees a problem with Athens winning 21 out of the 24 TVC titles available this season, and the girls going a perfect 12 for 12? If you don't see a problem with this then you must live in some kind of alternate universe where reality doesn't exist. Winning like this in any league is unprecedented. I'll wait while someone finds another league in the state of Ohio where one team wins 87.5% of the championships between both boys and girls sports. The sad thing is that this trend with Athens will continue as long as the TVC allows it. This isn't some kind of two year anomaly folks. Most rational people saw this coming when Athens first announced they were moving to the TVC. The Athens' programs had hit rock bottom in the SEOAL, and the TVC was the perfect place for them to get their groove back. As they predicted when Athens got their programs turned around, the TVC would turn into their own personal playground. Right now Nelsonville fans seem to be the most vocal about liking Athens in the TVC. They are alright with it because they are looking at it from a football only standpoint. It's a good game between rivals, but it was a good game when it wasn't a league game as well. I can guarantee you that two or three more years of Athens winning every title will result in some kind of change. Whether it be teams wanting out of the TVC, or the TVC telling Athens to take a hike. They are simply too big and have too many resources for the little county schools that make up the TVC. That's the reality of the situation.
Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
I don't know Daniel, you might be right, my crystal ball is hazy right now. I would dispute that teams would leave the TVC because of the success of one school---as an example in football, in the Ohio the Title has run through Nelsonville for years, Who dropped? In the Hocking it was Trimble who had the most success--- with other teams jumping up for a year or two but still the team they had to beat was Trimble.
I think you'll see that in the Ohio in football, Meigs will be back, Alex has had a nice run, Wellston has a nice program and I can remember VC going 10 and 0--VC actually won a playoff game---joining NY as the only TVC Ohio team to do that. Athens will always be in the hunt in most sports but does anybody feel that we "dominated" NY in the title game--I sure didn't. The girls shared their title and had some close games along the way and I could point to close contests in the other sports.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that when people look at the gates and travel Athens is a good fit and I don't think the Dawgs or anybody else is going anywhere.

During the late 70's, 80's, 90's and until the time the bullpuppies cut and ran from the SEOAL they had sucess in most minor sports and was very competive the basketball and baseball. Let's be honest, the bullpuppies were very poor in football except for a few years in the 90's. The main reasons the bullpuppies will continue to dominate in all sports is becauce of there size and vast amount of resources. During the last 30 - 40 years in football there football program failed to develop a soild program and the support from the community was lacking! The reason most poster are upset was the way the bullpuppies cut and ran from the SEOAL after voting for expansion of the league. It seem after a couple years of beat downs mainly in football the decison was made for the bullpuppies to quit the SEOAL and join the TVC. This reminds us of the way the Cleveland Browns left for Baltimore and the Colts left for Indy! Shame on the bullpuppies!

Agree Orange and Brown.
I find it ironic that much of the conversation come playoff time is how no teams from Southeastern Ohio can ever seem to get out of the district, past game 11 or at the most game 12. Yet, in the next breath the conversation turns to pitying all these poor TVC teams as the victim of superpower Athens. And rather than focusing energy on recognizing someone like Athens as the standard and working to build programs up (resulting in more success for all of southeastern Ohio), you'd rather tuck your tails between your legs and throw mud at Athens. Having lived in northern parts of our state for a good portion of my life I can tell you that this mindset is unheard of there. Anything (and I mean anything) they can do to challenge themselves to get better, that's what successful people do. You wonder why people make fun of southeastern Ohio, this is a fundamental reason why. You don't want to take on any challenge to make yourself better. The only way you can see yourself getting better is by tearing down the competition, rather than rising to it.
Keep speaking as if you have no chance against Athens, and I guarantee you never will. All you pitiful TVC schools are the victim of unfairness. Keep that mindset and you'll never create your own success.

I dont think the tvc schools are the ones with the Athens jealousy problem. Its the seoal schools that cant seem to stomach Athens recent success
Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
When Athens was losing to the SEOAL in the late 90s early 00s, they were also losing non league games to the TVC. Look up the records. Athens just got better. Regardless of what league they play in, they are better. Just ask Jackson. They gave them a pretty good game last year in week 11. 10 years ago Jackson would've won by 30+.

Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
Over time, teams tend to play at the level of their competition week in and week out. I think this will mean one of two things...........the TVC teams become stronger in the olympic sports, or Athens will eventually play down to the level of the other TVC teams in the olympic sports.
Conferences are not formed on the performance of olympic sports anyways. If anything, those olympic sports need close geographic rivals because it doesn't make any economic sense to travel 2 hours just to play a girls softball game.

Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
One thing is for sure ... The total domination by the Alexander volleyball program a few years back resonated and forced the the rest of the area teams to get better ... Now, we have a tremendous volleyball program in the TVC with Nelsonville-York about to take the league by storm in 2012 ... Athens/NY would have probably been pretty good - but the whole ordeal with Alex has made them (and is making them) great!
- Look for the same circumstances to occur in other sports (if you think Athens is the 'dominate team/school) ... All sports except football & basketball - teams should have already been chasing and trying to get better to beat NY & Vinton County.

Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
I agree with Buckeye for life--leagues are formed around football and boys basketball---NY would have never thought about leaving the TVC because a spring sport or sports wasn't winning championships. When you look at these 2 sports the league is very competitive and therefore safe and sound.

Also worth pointing out, that in girls track and field, Eastern finished in first place among all TVC teams. Athens finished second overall, but won the TVC OHIO as being the top TVC OHIO team.
If little tiny Eastern can defeat all the TVC OHIO schools in a sport, they must be doing something right down in Reedsville, at least when it comes to girls track and field.

Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
I remember one year in track the finishers in order for the boys was Belpre, Waterford, and Miller. Waterford's girls seem to have a ticket to the district and regional in basketball broken only by Trimble and Eastern--I find this 10 year or more run astounding considering they are one of the smallest schools if not the smallest in the League. You never hear complaints of them recruiting either---so the talent must be home grown.
